COVID-19
I can easily imagine a civil war within a civil war. The people who bought all of those guns using them against the people who don't want to fight the virus, but also bought a bunch of guns and ammo. Here is Alex Jones back in the public eye. This stuff used to be just crazies on the internet but now they are out and active. This can't end well. Stay At Home makes even more sense now.

COVID-19
This data set, below, can be sorted by clicking on the column header. Click "Deaths per one million population". The USA is moving up fairly rapidly. Look at all of the countries below us, doing better. Of course, the data is always suspect, but still, we're supposed to be "the best". It really is amazing that all of this is happening. This is not the America that anyone recognizes. We're not saving or helping some other needy part of the world. This is all internal, no matter where it started. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

COVID-19
He is a desperate man, a wounded animal. Jail time, or at least years of trials and exposure, is waiting for him if he doesn't get re-elected. It's probably going to get much worse, especially as the election gets near, if the polls show him behind. If he loses, that lame duck period will be extraordinary. I'm talking about the man himself, not the party. These are fascinating times.

Cars for Sale: 1978 280Z
That's actually a nice car for the price, even with the terrible paint and the sunroof. I wonder if they gave it a 2+2 price but don't realize that it's a coupe.

I hope that Dr. Birx is watching Governor Cuomo's briefing. Because he knows much more about the heart of the testing problem.

Ignition Timing Mechanical Advance
If you want to see what the manufacturers do when they have complete freedom from the mechanical stuff, get an OBD reader with live data capability and look at what your other vehicle does. It's pretty interesting. Here's a screen shot from a 2003 Ford, fully warmed up. Running coil packs (wasted spark) with EDIS, and a crankshaft trigger. Factory stock. They control timing and use an IACV to hit a target RPM, apparently. p.s. I don't have aftermarket engine control, but I've considered it. I got in to the factory systems and the OBD readers because I had a code on a used vehicle that I could not figure out. It was caused by a vacuum leak. This live data is read directly through the PCM.

want to put 240z bumpers on 280z
It's all good. We need more parts suppliers. Good luck.

want to put 240z bumpers on 280z
I was responding to yarb"s post. Not yours. He posted for no apparent reason. Maybe you're on a phone, but it shows in the thread, I quoted his post. Good luck with BHJ. Interesting stuff. Ideally, you'd post in the Vendor's area or the Aftermarket sub-forum. https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/forum/93-vendor-marketplace/ https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/forum/49-aftermarket/

Total death projection is down to 60,000 again. April 17 update. That's a good sign. It had gone up to 68,000. https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america

Snarky comments to people not wearing masks - wrong?
To be fair, the Alabama "Stay At Home" instructions aren't the clearest. The Washington state site is bad too. Things aren't super clear. These "orders" are being issued without much media coverage explaining what they mean and how to comply. If you get on the internet to try and find things you get in to the government bureaucracy sites. The most important thing, the social distancing, is not even on the front page. The most important thing for stopping the spread. You can't really get angry at people if the information is not readily available. Pretend that you're a person who got yelled at in the store and you want to find out why people are pissed at you. Click "Learn More" - https://covid19.alabama.gov/ Try to find something on these two sites - https://www.governor.wa.gov/issues/issues/covid-19-resources https://coronavirus.wa.gov/

Frame Rail Patch Yes or No?
The rails on a Z are actually just unibody reinforcement pieces. So they are much thinner than a true frame piece would be. Every piece of sheet metal in a unibody has some effect on body stiffness. The most important structure is probably the rocker panels. They are steel tubes, formed from sheet metal. Lots of flimsy Z's out there and many ways to make them stiffer. Think holistically.

Won't go into gear
Yes. Not good. At least the balls are still in their races. Sometimes they're on the magnet too. That's the pieces of a retainer for a ball bearing assembly. Usually it's from an adapter plate bearing. @EuroDat knows the details there. Your trans needs a rebuild. The good news is that things will be soooo much better when it's back together.

COVID-19
I found a new site with cases and deaths plotted by state. Motorman's world, maybe he can opine. @motorman7 Worth following if they keep it updated. It should show the effects of "re-opening' pretty clearly. https://covid-19.mdmetrix.com/grid.html?list=death_curve https://covid-19.mdmetrix.com/grid.html?list=new_case_curve https://www.mdmetrix.com/covid-19-projections

COVID-19
Just saw Governor Cooper of North Carolina talking. He has a good three word motto, don't know if it's his but it sums things up. Testing, tracing and trends.

COVID-19
Age is irrelevant when you consider asymptomatic spreading. That's why the "re-opening" will be slow. People will not be getting immediately sick to where they can be hauled away and separated from the herd. You could argue that the younger healthier people should be held back longest because they will be the most active asymptomatic spreaders. They're the ones that will ignore the symptoms the longest and be most likely to forego the face coverings. Most likely to stay out late, party, drink, forget that there's a pandemic going on, or just atop caring. It's going to open up as far as the healthcare system can stand. COVID-19 processing plants. Until there's a vaccine. Older people, and people with health conditons, will have to be extra careful. Might be best to set up a two caste system. One for those who want to stay safe and one for those who don't care. We can give them some sort of identifier to wear so people will know who to associate with...

COVID-19
Over the last few weeks you can see that the W.H. has basically just been copying what the two governor coalitions are doing (and there's a third now, in the midwest). It's like giving commands after somebody has already taken an action, and pretending that they are doing what you directed. He'll claim credit for what works and direct blame for any problems. I've added the link to the new W.H. guidelines below. I was watching Dr. Birx just now and she has started to blame the individual labs for not doing enough testing. Even though the individual labs have said that they do not have the materials to do the tests. The collected test materials are there but they can't get them through the machines fast enough. I could tell from listening that it has been many many years since she ever ran a testing machine of any kind, if she ever did. She lost some credibility today. "Just turn the testing rate knob to 11, what are you waiting for?" https://www.whitehouse.gov/openingamerica/

Turn signals indicator points wrong way!
They're in the back of the tach. So you won't have to go through the tach to get to the bulbs. These doppelganger threads are getting weird....

Might actually be reachable on a 72. No way on a 76. Don't know. Insert head under dash and look. Or use a mirror. Read my comments here along with my comments in your other post. Double-posting always creates a mess.

Here's some philosophy from Australia. It's about lifeboats. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/apr/16/those-talking-about-a-fast-end-to-social-distancing-should-consider-the-cost-paid-in-human-lives#maincontent

If you consider Europe as a scaled version of the USA the next few weeks will be very informative. Here's an article with some good graphics. Many "reopening" experiments happening in late April, early May. The article title is misleading, there's much more to it. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/16/eu-offers-heartfelt-apology-italy-coronavirus-response-herd-immunity
