Found: '73 Z!
Hey Fellas, Thanks a lot for the info. If I can land a Z in the next year or so I would seriously be stoked, but my current duty station is on board a ship that does about 3 months underway and 2 months in port... for the next 3 years!!! Storage is not a problem, and as badly as I want a Z, I don't expect to drive it more than it's trip home untill she is completed. Over the past few years I've collected a bunch of info including the How To Restore Your Z book so I feel pretty good about my ability to survey the rust damage, that is untill I see that long elegant hood sloping down ever so gently into those set back headlight buckets:love:. I've got some pretty serious plans so in the next 5 to 6 years she would be torn down and in boxes than actually put together. I'll let you all know how it turns out... hey theres always Arizona. Well thanks alot, I love you guys Nate:cross-eye

Found: '73 Z!
YEAHHH!!! Found a 73 240 for sale in the area. Gotta go take a look at it. The fella said there is some rust...booooo. Could be fixable if it isn't too bad. He's only asking $750 for it but after talking to him on the phone he doesn't seem to be a Z enthusiast. He got the car form his father-in-law in 99' and hasn't done a whole lot to it due to time and money(he's got 5 kids:o ). He did say that most of the rust is on the passenger floor board. So what's it take to replace floor pans on a Z? Wheres the best place to buy new ones and whats a typical welder charge to pop them in? I'll be honest I wasn't really looking for a 73 but i got to thinking about the type of work I want to do, triple carbs...5 spd...twice pipes...panasports...spook...Orange regardless of original color, I don't really need to find a 70-71 to do that as long as it is a 240 thats all that matters. Anyways, any info/ words of wisdom would be great to hear. Thanks Nate:cross-eye

Riced-out Honda on Ebay
Dude... The funniest part is all the "fan mail" at the bottom. Some guys are rolling with it, But the ones I love are the guys who are are taking it serious!!! They're all ticked off about it and calling him names. My favorite thing he did was taking the back doors off...Classic! Thanks, Nate

Chased by the police!!
I just found an original 1971 issue Revell 240Z in the original box never assembled but strangely missing the rear axle. I paid $20 for it at a small hobby shop in Pensacola, FL. It was originally molded in orange. Happy hunting! I was also given a similar type car to the one you have pictured but it is a 300zx cop car by TOMY a friend of mine picked up in Japan almost 10 years back. Nate

cannibals
A frenchman an englishman and a polack we're captured by a fierce tribe of canibals. The Chief comes down to them and says, " Now that we've captured you, we're going to kill you, eat you, and use you're skins to make a canoe." "The good news is that you get to decide how you'll die" The Frenchman says " I'll take zee poison." The chief gives him some poison. The frenchman says "Vive La France!" and drinks it down. The Englishman says " A pistol for me, please." The chief gives him a pistol, he points it at his head and says "God save the Queen!" and blows his brains out. The polack without hesitation says "give me a fork." The chief is puzzeled, shrugs his shoulders and gives him a fork. The polack takes the fork and starts jabbing himself all over, the stomach his sides, the chest, ----- everywhere. There's blood gushing out all over the place, It's horrible. Appaled, the chief screams what are you doing!!!!!! Laughing, the polack looks at the chief and says, "so much for your canoe, asshole!" Nate:cross-eye

Z33 question....
To my knowledge the g35 is on an Altima platform... on the otherhand the G35 sports Coupe is on the Z platform. Still different enough to not be a Z. The Z says it all. No G35's in a Z club. "Mustang" clubs may take in other 5.0L's or Fox bodys in order to gain more members, and it's been my experience that the clubs are more typically founded around the 5 liter more than the actual mustang. Playing the devils advocate I've seen smaller Z clubs take in other Datsuns (ie: roadsters and 510's). Ain't a Z but hey, it's all about the love. Still I don't think an Infinity belongs in a Z club, because it ain't a Z. A bit on insight into Infinity. A marketing ploy yes. All hype..no. Take a base line Maxima vs. a base line I35. No comparison. Sure they are nearly identical but the features are way nicer and more abundant. A loaded Max vs. a base I35 is closer but the I35 is still better equiped. Same on the Pathfinder and the QX4. And the prices aren't that far off either. Price a loaded Pathfinder vs. a QX4 with the closest features and they're pretty close in price. Nate:cross-eye

Ok, here's the newest Z...
Brian, okay you paid 1200, what do i have to pay you for it? J/K... great find, I'm extremely jealous, and can't wait to see more of it. 16 y/o daughters first car...don't even wanna think about it. to the dog lovers... my wife and I have finally settled on the dog for us after we get out of this damn apartment. After much pursuasion from me she agrees on a weimaraner. If you haven't seen one they are simply one of the most beautiful german pointers you can find. They are all pretty much a silvery/gray color, and look a bit like a lab. Heres a pic. Nate:cross-eye

What is more important, SHOW or GO?
I went with Go, but, personally---I'm all about performance and reliability, but I believe when driving a Z it should be representable, remember you have a reputation to uphold. I'm not saying it needs to be show winning quality, just representable. A fast beater is still a beater. Nate:cross-eye

73 vs. earlier motors
You know everything I've ever read says that it was 1973 was when the new emission laws hit. for example... I had a 72 1/2 620 pickup with the 1.6L in it. It's said that Datsun released the first year 620 like this because the 1.6 wasn't set up/ ready for the emission sytems yet. In 1973 the 620 came with the choked up 2.0L. Also to mention the 1.6 had 92hp. My old 86 Sentra 1.6L, same block but with cross flow head had 69hp. Emissions and Performance do not Mix obviously! My 2 cents Nate:cross-eye

what do you guys think?
HaHa, Exactly the response I thought I'd get! No...I didn't believe it at all, but I was looking for more input on the "no damage from advancing the timing" bit. To my knowledge you can go too far and cause valve train "rattle" and damage due to the fact that the mix is exploding before the vavles finish closing. bonnie, Engines that have high compression (ie: ~10.25 or more) can explode the fuel due to heat and compression slightly before the spark from the plugs will...this condition is known as "spark knock" or more properly Pre-Detonation. 2many, wouldn't it be more correct to say the high test is meant for high perfomance engines rather than the other way around? Holy cow man! Working on 2000 I see! Keep 'em comming! Are you going to New Hampshire this year? I'd enjoy meeting you! Anyway, thanks for the response everyone---God I love this Site!!! Anyone have any other comments on the Advanced timing issue. Nate:cross-eye

what do you guys think?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2400923955&category=6776 Hey what do ya'll think about this??? It says "It is impossible to harm engine by advancing the timing" maybe at only 3-4 degrees but more would... pre-detonation and what-not. Nate:cross-eye

No door handles!?!?
Z Kid is right. Shaving is the removal of items (ie: door handles, moulding, etc. etc.). This process leaves no evidence that the item was ever there. Frenching is the process of "recessing" an item into the body panel, very common with antennas especially on "wild" streetrods. Also something you do with a date in the movie theater or in the backseat. Nate:cross-eye

Nice ride (but it is a 280Z
Hey Bkiller, You are right. I replied without thinking. 280's blinkers are in the grill above the "fat" bumber not in it (brain fart). I agree with you the thin bumpers shouldn't hinder them at all. Nate:stupid:

Nice ride (but it is a 280Z
Can you??? I know you'd have to change the lower valance also, so you would have blinkers/parking lights. This is actually some info I'm highly interested in. Nate :cross-eye

Problem with 60 and above...
How old are the U joints? have you ever had the drive shaft balanced? Any other noises? How about the rear suspension bushings? Personally I would think drive shaft or U joints. Nate

Gasket set for an L20?
One question, Are you the same guy that had the "bleached" pages on the 620 restoration...dark blue in color? Just curious. I had a 72 1/2 I was going to restore but was a little too late to make it worth it. Had the ol' 1600 in it. Nate:cross-eye

Want a Roadster? Got some time?
small, 2-seater, convertible/topless sportscar. Generally light quick and fun to drive. Datsun Fairlady Mazda Miata Shelby A/C Cobra Triumph TR-6 etc. etc. Dodge Viper...Technically...I guess so. Little Heavier than usual, though. Corvette, not really. Camaro and mustang...no. My $.02 Nate:cross-eye
