Rotary-powered bike?
Whats the smallest rotary made today? What would the equivalant size rotary be of 750cc sized 4 stroke engine? Nate

Rotary-powered bike?
You know, the 600cc sportbikes are all putting out in excess of 100hp. The engines are all aluminum and spin 12000-14000 rpms effortlessly. They get 35+ mpg (I typically get ~45), and the engine is about 15 or so inches long and 8 or so inches wide. I really don't think a rotary could match the size power and torque of these late model damn near street legal race bikes. Shafts are smooth but I have never been pleased with the performance of them. I can't think of one sportbike, 250cc-1300cc that has ever came with a shaft drive. Of course you dont have to lube them every week either. I really haven't thought about this application except for a sportbike, It might be more fitting to think of it as a tourer or a standard but it wouldn't be excepted as a cruiser thats for sure. There is always price to consider. You can pick up a new Suzuki SV650 (v twin sport standard) a comfortable piece of transportation with a great reputation for $5900. I don't think a rotary can match that either. Tomo... what brings up the moto bit? Do you ride? Nate

Ultra-perf tires
Would I be correct in assuming you want a soft and sticky tire? If so I too recommend the Yoko A032R (-S or -H) as they can be gotten with a soft or hard compound (the S and H). Also I can't believe no one mentioned the Nitto NT-555RII, It'll get it done! check it out here. Nate

Boxers...
Holy cow are they hyper! I am the, erm... proud owner of a 10 month 78 pound male Boxer puppy. Yup, I'd say he can be pretty annoying at times but damn he's cute. All he wants is to play and sit in our laps even though he doesn't fit very well. He doesn't do a whole lot of sleeping loves walks and playing ball. He is damn cute and whenever we take him on walks everybody loves to pet and play with him, wish I would have gotten one when I was single:D They do require a lot of patience though. Have fun! Hey Ed, you know, I hate to say it but I do miss Western New York. Nate

Rotary-powered bike?
I have a 97 ninja 600r (c10 model). It rides on a steel frame has about 100hp and tips the scales at 390 lbs. It has more than enough power to be downright scary and is about as narrow as they come for a 4cyl bike. I think the rotary is out of it's element on two wheels. Remember, for a motorcycle the engine sits sideways in order to power the tranny and in turn via chain belt or shaft to the rear wheel. What true advantage would the rotary have over any 600 or 750cc machine. The public must have thought the same because those bikes put themselves out of production. Carpet: Is it possible?
To the best of my understanding Automotive grade carpet is fire retardant. Is home carpetting? Granted you are not manufacturing an automobile for sell but the floorboards of a car, especially turbo, are subject to higher temps ,and often at that, than that of a house. A professional automotive upholstery shop doesn't use just any carpet either they buy the automotive grade carpetting. Just a question and possibly some food for thought. Nate Remember the Vans from the 70's and 80's with the "wall-to-wall" shag carpetting!

Colour Schemes
Hmmm, As far as colors (colours) go I am very partial to the original orange. But I love that blood orange that you came up with, hell it gave me chills:classic: Also a Titanium silver looks awesome too. I saw it on a Factory Five Cobra Kit and it really looks good. Blues always look great great but I think you can go too dark, it might just be me but I think lighter colors look better on Z's vice the darks. And yet another color... The old mopar Sublime Green from the 60's/70's would look awesome on a Z. Black vehicles... I've had three and my wife is on her second... for a total of five. Maybe we're gluttons for punishment but they do look great when clean. They get dirty fast, every knick and scratch shows up and any less than perfect body work is very revealing. But my previous statement about Z's and dark colors stands. Nate

Car Collection Terminology and Standards
Hey Dave, I love Dead horses, so if you don't mind I'd like like to kick it too. Hmmm, I took a look at the ebay ad and also took a look at the mail list. I do see your point to an extent. The Z was misrepresented. We all know that all sellers hype up their vehicle, hell it's the basic's of advertising. One wouldn't expect TIR to represent an ad in such a way. I don't know a whole lot else about the deal or the condition of the car, but i do live not too terribly far down the road from you and know that a Z in good shape is hard to find. I have no idea how much it cost you to have it shipped to NC but I saw your winning bid and if you got a pretty rust free car pretty original car minus the engine block you still got an alright deal. The car I just looked at two days ago... '73 240Z had "Factory Original Aluminum Mags" and "A little rust on the floor board". And I'm like hmmm factory alum. mags in 73? They were the old school slotted mags and you could set a 6 pack on the driveway through the driverside floor pan and I was afraid to sit in the drivers seat I don't think the pan would have held. Couldn't imagine the areas not readily viewable. just adding my bit, Nate

Changing head gasket: Cleaning the mateing surfaces?
Ahhh, one of those Diamond Star Motor deals? I found pics of both a Chrysler and Mitsu Sigmas online and they were both Aussie cars, I don't think they ever sold them in the states, not 100% though. On the headbolts... You make the call then. I haven't been around the block too many times yet but in my past experiences it has been "required", suggested and then done eventually. Torque to yield? Aren't all headbolts torque to yield? By this you mean that they have a certain psi to be tightened to correct? Every head bolt I know of has to, but I could be wrong. Have fun and before you fire it up, make sure you have all your tools! Nate

rotary engine
Heck no. Nissan never used the rotary. I just wanted to throw out the fact that what makes a Z so enjoyable to drive is that straight 6 up front. The inherent nature of the the inline-6 motor is torque, and remember torque gets you off the line. And not just torque but torque at a low rpm. The rotary has rotors spun through the center by an "eccentric" shaft. Because there are no pistons there is no crank and no rods which are the two key ingredients for angular momentum aka torque. To make up for the lack of torque Mazda tossed on the turbo charger and bang it's light and quick. The renesis motor has no turbo because of the new design creates 238hp without it. Problem... 159lb-ft of torque at 5500 rpm!!! That's ridiculous. In order for this car to perform you have to drive it like you hate it. If you should choose to throw a rotory in a S30 have at it, but I think the L series is a great engine and if you must stray the RB motors are another choice, just a little more pricey. I've never heard of a car getting hit by lightining a burning. It would seem that the tires would isolate it from ground at stop it from getting hit to begin with:ermm: Nate
