So I got no love on the answers to my questions in the post from the first so I went ahead with some things on my own. The engine is on the stand. I have started to bolt things on to plug the holes.

Ok, bunches of questions: the mechanical oil pressure sender I have on my engine (in the car) is 44 years old and works. But with a new engine, it kind of feels like putting on yesterday's underwear using the old parts. I see MSA sells new ones, but I seem to recall problems with the replacements. Thoughts and experiences? sensors? I plan on having water temp sensor, MAP in the manifold, MAF in the intake, an actual throttle position sensor on the throttle body. Which actual sensors have you guys used? Someone suggested the 240SX TPS for use on my TWM throttle body. I guess it fits the shaft and needs some drilling and tapping to mount, but minor. So, suggestions for which sensors to work with Megasquirt? I actually already have an O2 sensor in the header which I used with the carbs. Injectors? Sorry about the lack of pictures. Job getting in the way! BTW, my actual static compression is 10.2:1 using the E31 and a gasket Rebello has marked 3.0 in Sharpie. Anyone have the injector mounting hardware laying around? I need to source and plate it.

Eliminating the Coolant Sensor
One of the "tricks" that guys used to do in combination with the turbo AFM was to put a small potentiometer for variable resistance in line from the coolant temperature sensor so the could adjust the richness a bit. My personal feeling is that you're better off stock.

After some research on HybridZ in the EMS Megasquirt section, I see that others are using NGK BPR7ES so six just went in. I'll research gap on the dyno once we get there.

Ok, first question. Dave Rebello said I would want to use a spark plug in the Bp7 range. But that I would need a resistor plug and wires since I'm using coil packs. What are you guys using? oh, the engine is on the stand. I'll post a picture later...

Well, I should call this a 'lack of progress thread' huh? But today, I made progress. In my defense, I am only driving out of California once every two weeks. In order to pick up the finished engine, I have to stay an extra day as Dave Rebello is closed by the time I am leaving. The weather has been horrible for driving back over the mountain. On one trip, it took me 42 hours from the time I left work until I got home, including 7 hours sitting still waiting for the avalanche crew to knock down a threat. Today was the day though. I left work last night and checked in to a hotel in Concord just 15 miles from Rebello. Got up this morning and went to Antioch for the big pick up. She's still in the back of the truck until I put her on the stand tomorrow. I'm excited to get started!

Looking for a set of Sumitomo calipers MK63
I'm still looking for a set of these to reverse engineer and make in alloy. Here is a set of Porsche 914 calipers I did the same with. They would be about 4# lighter per side and use larger fasteners to mitigate any flex from the lighter material. It might even be possible to add a spacer for vented rotors.

Crazy weather
I work in the San Francisco Bay Area but live in Incline Village, Nevada (Lake Tahoe). My normal commute is 3:10 minutes. I work for a week and I'm off for a week. I got off last Monday at 6pm and it took me 42 hours to get home! I arrived Wednesday at 12n. Oh, and there was 15' of new snow at home!

E31 head vslue
Mine is worth a lot more. Of course, it was ported and polished and had big valves installed by BC Gerolomy in the 1970's so... (insert evil grin here!)

You're still getting hung up on that number. When someone tells you 11.2:1 they're telling you static compression. Meaning the engine isn't running. Dynamic compression is the number you care about. There are a few of us here who have been around Z cars for decades that can impart experience but your next best move is to invest in a long distance phone call or email Dave Rebello. Be prepared to tell him everything you have and especially what your goal is. Ask him to sell you a cam. Dave has something like 30 grinds that he uses. He can set you on the right path. My ignition system is in pieces right now but here are the crank fire parts-
