  1. The seat is now fine by me! Drives like a champ, feel like I'm in a rocket (except for the lack of power steering )! Just learned from an Admin here (brilliant and helpful, Mike) some step-by-step instructions on dealing with the newly discovered wipers not working. Were totally fine last week, not so much now. Always more to discover. Also found the blinkers which worked last test (a few weeks back), now aren't blinking. Hope it's just fuses, think maybe. Love the Z, don't love the unknowns, but workin' it.
  2. I guess I should ask to remove this thread ... ??
  3. Fantastic, Mike, thank you tons and tons! You've given me excellent advice and when my husband returns from work, he'll help me further on checking out your helpful recommendations; especially the part on voltage meter readings. I found the fusebox and that looks very helpful, I see names on the cover of each. Not sure how to find the AMP ratings, unless they're written on those tiny little fuses themselves, which I'll see soon. You clearly know what you're talking about; but me not so much ... ":0( ... Your step-by-step help here, and moving this question where it belongs is so appreciated. Thank you again.
  4. Do you know, Ron, how often this Style car show in Northern California takes place?
  5. Novice here, working with my brother's '71 240Z to put out to bid and sell. Question: When taking out the seat, to fix, found a fuse. Also then found the fuse box, everything "looks" fine. Went driving last week, was smooth, and drive was GREAT stuff worked, drove again this week and the windshield wipers aren't responding. ? Could it be a fuse, and if so, should I take them all out and can you test them? ? Since we're planning to sell at current price or best offer ($4100), does it make sense to sink $s into investigating this and raising the price to sell? ? Or could it be something else I should do to make the wipers work? Thanks tons!
  6. Thanks you so much, Stephen. I've sent Email to this site Administrator to inquire about the Paypal options on this site to get things going to sell here vs. eBay or some AutoTrader, etc.
  7. Just saw a '74 260Z on eBay up for US $46,500.00; it is really clean. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1974-datsun-260-z-show-room-new19-000-miles-240z-280z_W0QQitemZ290171677073QQihZ019QQcategoryZ6187QQcmdZViewItem Says it's 19,000 miles. It is really pretty! The whole mileage thing baffles me on the Z cars, especially in our case, which is a '71 240Z and the odometer doesn't have enough places to show the actual miles after it reaches 99.999 so curious how you can trust people's odometer claims. In our case, it shows current miles at 90,351, and many of our Z Doctor receipts and others started showing these miles as well a few years back, but my brother knows it went over the mark and is actually 190,351. Just curious.
  8. Top notch information! So it sound like we should sell other things c/o eBay and Paypal before listing our '71 240Z to get some feedback first. Sure appreciate the guidance everyone has listed in this thread.
  9. Ours hasn't seen the snow either, and although she wheels like mad, wouldn't want to chance any hint of the 40 miles of bad road anywhere; only because a '71 240Z has no power steering, and after wheeling those with power steering, feel like I'm driving with my feet in rough roads.

    Ours is a 1971 240Z with HLS3028499 ... so seems newer.
  11. OOPS (sorry Mohammed, you already told me to be brief, and I did want to) ... but afterthought, sharing my creative energy to save $s and fix the driver's bottom of the seat without adding to the cost to sell ours, which is $4,100. http://www.asta.bizhosting.com/OctoberUpdates-2.htm
  12. This thread made me reinstpect the front bumper on the 1971 240Z we're selling, after I did a cleanup and see that it has damage in the front (boo hoo); a bit of a separation so guess someone bumped it whilst at the curb (THANK YOU--NOT)! We've had ours new and always in California, and baffled by this conversation about bumper sizes. The '71 Z looks hell-o-good, no? http://www.asta.bizhosting.com/240Z-2.htm http://www.asta.bizhosting.com/images/Rolfs-240Z-Jlyl200734.JPG http://www.asta.bizhosting.com/images/Rolfs-240Z-Jlyl200714.JPG Lots more pics, but I find the more I look the more I find; did reinspect closely after rinsing/wiping the front to find some flaws. All in all, I think it's mostly good!

I am a total novice, and no experience with your year car, and only learning about the '71 240Z. That said, found this article interesting and curious if it might not be of some help to you. http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/cooper.htm Asta
  14. OK, briefly ... 1 - $4,100 as is 2 - First month or so that my brother bought this new, it was stolen! Recovered a couple of days later partially stripped and messed up on the paint; he then paid dealer or the Z Doctor (don't recall and he's out of town) to touch up with original color. Then went to a Who concern in SF and some jerk jumped on the roof and damaged it! He had to have it repaired/repainted again with the original color. 3 - Front brakes at 70%, rear brakes at 50%. Listing of work done on my links along with pictures. 4 - Drives like a rocket! Need to check fuses, since the wiper were fine last week, but didn't work yesterday. Otherwise drives like a dream (other than no power steering, ). That's as brief as I can get to respond. Link below gives lots of details, along with links and pictures. http://www.classiczcars.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=2133 Thank you.
  15. Thanks for the GREAT idea! The before/after pictures are absolutely awesome! WOW! Things really look like new!
  16. Sorry, can't type this day. Meant that it really BITES that it was stolen! Sadly when his was found a day later, they did do some stripping; hopefully that won't be the same situation for you.
  17. I hasten to add, that the 'bubbly' effect on the rooftop is very topical, it's like I take my rag and rub and it's gone, but think it's some kind of finish my brother had put over the paint at the dealer back when to keep it shiny and protected. Don't know, he doesn't remember what it was either. But again, when I apply any wax to it, it look really good so maybe I should get some kind of sandstone or lowgrade buffing stuff to get past the peeling stuff and wax/polish all the roof. It looks really good when I do. But then, I'm told that I should leave things alone, sell it and let the buyers do what they want. WHAA! Dunno.
  18. Good morning, Bigoak, et al. I'm always in awe when I see the results of what you have done with these road-bullets! Don't know why I think of them that way, but I do. The Zs just look like they're in the barrel and ready to fly! We've been driving my Brother's 1971 240Z since we all agreed it was time to sell her, and have had some work done. Admittedly, this weekend after driving her around the neighborhood, in the hills, on the freeways, I remember why we love her! True, I also love my 1988 Acura Integra LS with still less than 84,000 miles (treasured pet, as the others), but to equate the two is like talking German to a fish. In the Z, I'm so right on the street/low-tight-right and powerful. WOW, what a car! BUT .... the Z doesn't have power steering, holy cow, what a reality-set! So, thank goodness this lady lifts weights, I could do it! Had to share; forgive me if I stepped into your thread uninvited. We're selling our 1971 240Z, not because we are thrilled to let her go, but because we don't have a place to house her for the winter, and she wants love. Thanks again, for letting me participate in this thread. I'm grateful. I'm also thinking maybe that I want to polish up the very top of her where the shiny stuff that was put over the original green paint is kinda bubbling. I'm thinking this is just a lacquer or something, since when I applied a little wax to the underneath of it onto the pain directly, it looked pretty daggoned good so maybe I should take off the bubbly shiny stuff and simonize? Don't know, just talking outloud. Whew, sorry for being so long-winded. Getting older by the minute, needing to decide about our family Z. Letting go isn't always so easy. Then comes who to let it go to. Not everyone who buys a 240Z treasure treasures it, and it seems we ought to be selective; but maybe not. ":0) I'm blah blahing, sorry.
  19. Stolen? That really bited! This link kinda makes me worry about ours, we've had 'lingering' observers with our Z now that one of the houses here are up for sale, lots of traffic and a school nearby. Scary! We put up the For Sale signs just recently, but after reading this, covered it with a fitted 240Z cover, and locked it down. Will that help? We're not in your neck of the woods (apparently thank goodness is what I should feel). I am really sorry to hear you've been ripped off, and sure hope they find the culprits/creeps! Yours is also a beautiful Z. Crossing fingers, toes, etc., that you recover your treasure and it's in equal great shape. My Bro's car was stolen as well (1971 240Z) right after he first bought it. We all know what the pain is. ":0(
  20. The improvements you show in your photos are mind-boggling. What is EZ off, and is it safe to use on any 240Z?
  21. Wowie Zowie! Lots of extras on that car, but definitely looking nifty. Curious what it means on the eBay ad you posted above that says "inspected" .... any idea? I ask because I'm helping my brother sell his 1971 240Z also a California native car, and we've taken it to a shop for work/inspections before selling but don't know about that "inspected" thing. We may also post at eBay, but exploring the options, so wanted to bug you and ask. Just did some creative fixes to keep our purchase price at $4100 for this '71 240Z, and more to do, but clearly the experts at this site who take restoring these treasures seriously would not patch things up as I have, they'd replace things. These are my work-arounds. I guess it would be only right to add updates, since I stepped into this thread with my driver's seat issues. All were fine, except the bottom of the driver's seat was wiped out by the sun, so in staying with our goal to keep $s down yet maintain original as much as possible so we can fix things and sell it without raising price, we were creative. Here are the updates. http://www.asta.bizhosting.com/OctoberUpdates-2.htm More to be done, but what an adventure. All I need to do now is figure out the fuse box info, so I can see why the windshield wipers which were fine the other day aren't as fine this morning. Thinking it's a fuse, maybe. Thanks for your help.

  23. Sure don't want to regret letting ours go, but prepping to put this California native out to bid. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?p=234294&posted=1#post234294 WHEW, hope this paste is the right link. Long night.
  24. You've sure found the perfect site! I did, when I landed here. I wanted to know a lot about others like our family that find the Datsun 240Z not only intriguing, but something you'd keep up for more than 30 years! This year (1971) and that label (Datsun 240Z) means a lot to lots of us. I've learned lots here, and sure do appreciate the 1) help 2) expertise 3) guidance 4) tolerance (due to my novice level on cars) 6) willingness to help. We're selling our treasure, and know it'll be one that the new owner will savor. Good luck on your adventures and, again, you've come to an excellent site. These men and woman know their stuff! They've sure educated us. We're soon to go out to bid on ours, so may not monitor this often, but will return.
  25. Brilliant and thanks ..... will try as well on future postings. ":0)
