My New Cold Air Intake
Looks Good! For all of you who either can't afford it or don't care about the looks, check out what can be done with a dremel and about 1 hour of work. Sounds great and "seems" to pull a little harder. Could be and probably is wishful thinking and with a K&N filter when I can afford it, it'll look even better! Dan

Car is down again
also, you have a fuel injection car, moving the throttle when trying to start is not helping or doing anything for that matter. If you do have a fuel delivery problem pushing on the gas pedal will only make it worse, as in huge vacuum leak. Try doing what m4xwell suggested. Take off the top of your air cleaner and dribble some gas on it and see if will fire. Do you have the stock fuel feed line with a G3 filter in it? If so you may have a clogged inlet screen inside the tank and there's only one way to find out. You need to check your fuel pressure. If your pump is weak or your inlet screen is dirty you will have the bucking and surging until the car quits. One more thing does it start after it sits for awhile?

GT Tail Light Uses
Those lights do not look out of place at all. I've always thought from the first time I've seen the 240k tail lights that they were on the wrong car. I think Mr. K got confused and somehow switched the designs and it was too late to fix. I would love to convert my Z over to those. Dan

You guys North of me won't be happy...
To deadflo, same story here in Newport, 3 feet of snow. I still drive her snow or not. I just go to carwash and rinse her down to remove roadsalt and put her back in bed. I'm too hooked to go without!

The speedometer has 160, we have took it to 155mph.
My rpm was right 6grand. I know that with a full drivetrain rebuild I could probably get to around 135 maybe 138, but to be truthfull living in Washington, the penalty for gettin caught at that speed keeps my foot out of 100+ and even then the penalty is still to lose one arm and leg to state. Not to mention the maximum speed allowed is only 70mph and those speed zones are nowhere near me. Legally I'm cruisin' at 60mph so the way she is now at 127 is might frightning!, but hella fun. Well at least the one time anyway.

Gauges and Fusebox mystery
The one on the bottom right is for the charge lamp in the voltmeter. Connections to check are behind the glove box at the main junction block and the alternator. As for wiring diagrams the most kickass one I've found is at, http://www.colorwiringdiagrams.com/, also known as Prospero's Garage. Every do it yourselfer with a classic Z should own one. $17 bucks plus shippng. You can't even go to the movies for that! Just remember they use the U.S. Postal service, so if you have a P.O.Box have them ship to that. Believe me I know. I had wait for it to be returned to sender before I got them my box #, but it was sure worth the wait. I wish you luck. Dan

1975 datsun 280z 2+2 won't start
If you have tried everything else, check the injector fusible link at the battery. It will be connected to the positive teminal and should have a plastic device on the wire to prevent it being pulled apart. Also check your fusible link array on the passenger side fenderwell. Those things unless they are perfect, are a complete PITA! Most Z owners who are not intersted in keeping their cars 100% original have upgreaded the fusible links. I know I have and it made a world of difference in how my car ran. Heck!...Everything electric worked better afterwards. Hope this helps and remember, always check the simple things first. Dan

She's gotta go :(
to mckkm, I'm about 4 hours away from yakima, but if you would like pics I could gather a set of current photos and get them posted. To Darbji, thanks for your support, as for Kharma I agree, all you women are jealous of each other :cheeky:, so for her to feel that way doesn't surprise me. I do need to ask, does she know that you took her out of the avatar photo completely? And what about sharing the spotlight with those "other" cars? :eek:Dan

I wanna keep the the truck cuz my mom gave it to me. Besides Newport doesn't have city garbage so I need it to haul my trash to dump any way. Dan

She's gotta go :(
I'm a trucker and I don't wanna go back on the road. So I'm lookin for local driving jobs. I've put in about 15 or so apps in the last week and a half alone, so something has to come up. If I go back to work soon-within next 2 weeks - I'll tell landlord to wait for his money till I start getting paid and if he wants to be hard and not wait, then though I hate to be this way, it'll take him until the 1st of the year to get us out anyway and I'll save my money and we'll move takin my Z with, but I'd rather not go through all that. Truth is I'd rather sell the car, pay him till the first of year. That'll give me time to be picky and take the best job available. I know wish in one hand...In the end it'll all work out. Unless one of you guys or girls wants to buy it for 2500.00 and sell it back to me in March???! Just kidding! I love the '76 cuz she's my first, but truth be told I want a 240 to small block ford convert. Maybe a 4/70 car then I can have another birthday in April besides myself and my daughter to use as an excuse to drink a little whiskey, not that I need one but what the hay!. Hee Hee! Dan

She's gotta go :(
You guys are all great, the music gear is already pawned, Three kids and a wife need more than taco bell wages, besides been there done that and nobody's gonna buy an 8mpg 4x4 truck right now with gas prices the way they are. I've had her for about a year, little more. Yes am getting unemployment. Rural Resources have been helping out as much as possible and I have a few leads. Now don't start throwing things but she is after all just a car and my kids shelter is way more important than she is. The wife can sleep outside, just kidding If not for her I wouldn't have got the z in the first place, so with a heavy heart I'll let her go. It's kinda like a pet you've had for years that runs away, I'll miss her when she's gone but I get to fall in love with another sweetie who may not fill the void of losing the first one, but with a huge smokey burnout can help ease the pain of the loss. Now there's some sappy sh*t! Darbji don't you start crying, we'll all get through this together. Lots o Love. Dan Oh and I second BigOak on the in front of Kharma shot.....MMMM..........

She's gotta go :(
well the worst time in a while has befallen me, dear fellow members, I have to sell my precious beauty. I got laid off my job with no work in the near future and I have to sell the Z to make rent through the end of the year. Right now life sucks! However on a lighter note I'll be able to replace her in the spring when I get my taxes, if I can find one I don't have to travel half-way accross the country to buy. It sure is gonna be painful to see her go. She's in the classifieds if you want to take a look. I'll be back when I get her replaced, until then, Happy Holidays to all! Dan

Fuel problem... still!
Friar -Tuck has it nailed, My 83 maxima (essentially same engine and computer) had same problem. I had accicentally knocked off the plug to the water temp sensor in that exact location and experienced those exact symptoms. Found the hanging plug, put it back on sensor, started car and felt dumb cuz she ran great again. I mean I was happy as well, but I had spent a week trying to figure it out and had to tow it 50 miles home after being stranded cuz it wouldn't run. Oh well live and learn, but I'd check that sensor and plug before spending tons o dough on other things. Here is the link to carfiche http://carfiche.com/manuals022/cars/. They don't have an '83, but I'm pretty sure an '82 is the same. Dan

Outer rear control arm bushings help
you need to remove the outer shells. use the hacksaw method described earlier. I then used a fine grit dremel sanding drum and cleaned up the inside of the hole and then sanded them with 600 grit and with just the right amount resistance the bushing slid in. hope this is helpful. Dan

If this guy gets $20,000 I am selling mine lol
Except for us poor bastards who only have the hopes to get one Z in our lives let alone being able to afford any parts for them. I keep hoping to really sink some dough into my Z after the kids are grown, but if everybody wants to pay more than what these cars are worth just to drive up the value, hell I've got a worn out 76 280 that looks great at ten feet for ten grand. Any takers? I didn't think so. Dan
