2 sensors
if your tranny is from a 75-76 280 the other switch is for the vacuum advance trigger. The 280 at least the 76 (cause that's what I got) doesn't use vacuum advance until fourth gear, so when you shift into fourth it triggers an electonic vacuum switch to give the dizzy advance for better acceleration.

Right rear thumping during breaking
Welcome to the show. I too have a thumping noise from same side. I would check the gland nut holding your strut in the tube and if you replaced stub axle I'd go ahead and do the bearings as well as the suspension bushings.

no start no run
Welcome to the club and congrats on lovin Fords! I'm with ya on that one. Go back to the jy and get an injector harness, just the end that goes on to the injector. Hook up a push button switch to a 9v battery and listen to hear if your injectors are clicking. If they click they're working. No garauntee if they're workin good but you'll know at least.

New Z Owner trying to get things going
Stephen, Dan here, any ideas on why my oil press. gauge goes to maximum when I start my car then slowly dies off to zero? Thanks

Injection
did not know that. Maybe get p/u tube extended and switch to rear sump pan? Whadda you think?
-
Injection
all you gotta do change the pickup tube and the sump to the Z model stuff. could even get it off the original 240 engine. I just did some work on my maxima and I gotta say that L24e does get down pretty good hauling that fatass maxima down the road. I need a 240!! I think it would be an unusual and cool swap.

It's OK, I think I was born with a brain cramp:knockedou

Injection
If you wanna go injection in your 240, grab an l24e from an 83-4 maxima. 2400 so you'll still be in the 240z realm and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised as to the power those engines make. And if your lucky you get the 5 speed and do it all at once. And I agree with sblake, my 280 pulls all the way to the redline. And really once your into it the EFI is not that complex. So if anyone has a spare 240 just lying around?...:cheeky: I've got a l24e just waiting for a new home.

vacuum diagram..
that's the one Stephen. It's from the FSM and you can't see under the throttle body (GRRRRRRRRRRRR!), but thanks for your response. I was hoping someone had mapped it out and had it handy, but by judging how nobody has one, I guess when I get it figured out I'll draw it out and post it for all those 76er's out there

vacuum diagram..
I really hate to be rude, but I've been looking for an understandable vacuum diagram for my 76 280 for some time now and all I get is for the hvac. Understanding I don't have ac and all my heat and air controls are cable likage and also the routing diagram and ledgend in the FSM is crap, does anyone know of a diagram that real people can read? I've seen several posts on several sites of people asking for the same thing as me and getting directed to the hvac diagram. Really do appreciate the helpful spirit, I don't think that when a guy is asking " po removed all the vacuum hoses, I don't know how it even stays running." how the hvac diagram is going to help. So please forgive my aggresive messaging and can anyone help? Thanks

Speedometer Cable Assembly
sorry brother I just saw your post. I got one from schuck's for about 15 bucks. I did have to modify a bit, had to pull of threaded coller for gauge and replace with original, it was easy. works great. So good I knew I was speeding when the cop pulled me over...ouch!

If you could have only one Z-but any Z which would it be?
I would like to have a 72 or 3 just because they're lighter and I like the bumpers and front turn signal lamps better than my on my 76, but you guys won't tell her will ya?, cuz I still love her no matter what.

HELP! Surging, Hesitation, Backfire on EFI
Just do what I wrote in my earlier post about moving the feed line to the drain hole. Is it a PIA to cahnge the filter when it gets dirty?, yes it is but it won't clog up so bad as to leave you stranded like it will if the internal screen clogs up solid. The reason it ran fine after it sat for an hour is all the crud settled back on the bottom of the tank without the pump suction holding it there, but one or two turns at speed and it'll start chugging again. And at least you'll be able to enjoy your sweetie till you can afford her more major surgery. Just do it, she'll love you for it! And so will you.

HELP! Surging, Hesitation, Backfire on EFI
I'm tellin ya brother Matt, you are going to fight the tank demon till it's done proper. If that much made it past the screen in the tank just imagine what's still in there. The reason I say move your feed to your drain hole is you can get more of that junk out cuz it will just clog up the internal screen running the way you've got it now.

HELP! Surging, Hesitation, Backfire on EFI
There is a drain plug on the tank, passenger side bottom.

HELP! Surging, Hesitation, Backfire on EFI
If your car was running fine then started surging and backfiring, go with the Master's advice 1st! I've been through it all with my 76. The problem is the fine brass screen in the tank on the feed pipe to the pump gets clogged with varnish and fine rust particulates and since I don't have the dough to get my tank cleaned at radiator shop I got a 1/4" np tap and tapped the drain plug hole to accept 90 deg brass nipple. About 12" of fuel line, doesn't need to be for fuel injection ( no pressure-just suction), plugged in a fram G3 fuel filter between pump and tank after cleaning inlet filter in pump and she pulls strong all the way to 6500. If there is a bunch of crap in your tank get 3 or 4 filters and keep swapping them out till all the crap is gone. You can clean them, but only about 3 times before they're totally junk. And don't worry about ruining your drain plug hole with the tap. If you don't drill it and just run the tap up, go slow backing up often, it will not ruin the stock threads and when you think you've got all the crud out you can thread the drain plug right back in. However take it from me if you've got the time and money drop that tank and take to radiator shop and have cleaned cuz I just changed another filter today and it's starting to get tiring. Hope this helps. Dan

Cars crushed in street racing crackdown
I do feel the same way Jon, but this isn't about air filters and spark plugs. The sad thing is no matter how many cars the gov'ment crushes there will still be street racers endangering the rest of us and tarnishing the good name us hot rodders, all of us have built over the years. Besides I hate the man just as much as anyone but if my wife's Accord were stolen so that some punk could fix his illegal street racer I'd like the damn thing crushed and the state to reimburse my wife. Then make the criminal pay the state back with many years of hard manual labor!

Have the rear panel painted or leave it black?
Black, but I do like that 240 in silver!
