  5. The outer sleeves arrived from Energy Suspensions. The sleeve is part number 15.10.70.39 and speced at 0.750" OD x 0.630" ID x 1.830" Long on the order form. Problem is I'm measuring 0.640" Inner Diameter and the spin and slide freely on a brand new spindle... :disappoin This one is tooo big, and this one is tooo small.....
  6. I blew the input bearing on the tranmission for a '79 Mazda RX7. It made alot of noise when you pulled the clutch and went away when you pushed the clutch in, so I guess it was all rpm's, not just >3K. It was pretty obvious by grabbing the input shaft of the tranny and shaking it. The vibration from the input shaft ate up the pilot bearing where there was just a sleeve left (it was a roller type pilot bearing)...

Would that be the kind of cardboard around a 12 pack of bud light in cans or the the cardboard around a 12 pack of Sierra Nevada bottles? Brilliant link, thank you.

Nice car, didn't know Z's pulled down that kind of $$$. Did '73's have flat top or round top carbs? That has round tops.
  9. I wouldn't overlook the discussion here http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=120668 which discusses the possible down side to the bushings. Since the TC rod swings in an arch you get potential binding with the bushings (camber bushings or even stiffer polyurethane). The Canadian Atlantic Z Car club reports bump steer problems and proposed a solution to the harder control arm setup without going all out race front end.. http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/suspension/comprod/ball&socket/index.htm

Another project suggestion for Zs-ondabrain... electrical hero in training Epoxy in a modern U-shaped spade fuse into the T-Shaped 2 spade Z electrical connector similar to the external to internal voltage regulator conversion connector. Plug that into the picture above with a dab of dielectric grease...

Those Riken rims look fantastic on your car ZIII.
  12. For the parking light harness, I went through the firewall holes drilled in for the dealer installed air conditioning. That was drilled through under the battery. Much easier than going through the wiring harness grommet and there is enough slack in the harness for the longer run.

My '72 does not have that connector. The dirt on it makes it appear to have been hooked up at some point.
  14. I'd take it to a Z shop and have it looked at. Lots in SoCal to choose from.
  15. All the video is missing is the random cow introducing herself into the chaos, and there would still be no carnage. I had 3 drivers while in India, about $45.00 a day with a nice car or van, sometimes had a DVD player. The driver's skill was amazing and they typically slept in the parking lot of your hotel, on call via cell phone 24x7. (cell phones are cheap!) The video highlights how transportation markets are different. I remember reading about the Japanese car execs getting flown to drive the great lone highways in the desert southwest of the US and getting blown away by it. Same thing taking an American and driving in India... You equip yourself differently.
  16. Watch the Tata's in action! http://ricos.blogspot.com/2006/11/india-day-26-traffic.html When I was in India, most cars had their side mirrors either folded in or busted off. While moving around in India, I sat in the back seat horrified.
  17. I had that same toe bar installed by the original owner of my 240Z. Damn silly. Besides the obvious holes, the forward mount comes into the spare tire wheel well and did some mild bending. The rear holes go through one of square-ish unibody reinforced areas just below the rear deck flooring in the back of the Z. Mine has no obvious warpage there (yeah!) but the bumper was a loss. That toe bar weighs about 35 lbs and went into my trash can. If it was valuable, I wouldn't sell it to you

I got a replacement snorkle off EBay about a year ago.
  19. I think its mechanical vs. electrical. You have an automatic or a manual gearbox? Possibly the throwout bearing in the clutch or one of the many bearings in the transmission.
  20. Spoke with Energy Suspensions. Easy to work with folks. They mentioned that their spec for the ID of the outer sleeve should be 0.63". That gives you 0.002" clearance on install which seems reasonable. I have some new sleeves coming next week and will follow up on how it went... Do you guys put thread lubricant anti-seize on the spindles? The bushings would use the kit provided grease, but what about the spindles?
  21. This was bench assembled with a new pin and heated sleeve. Haven't ripped the the back end apart yet so I'm going to wait for new sleeves. Thanks Ron and Terry. Great heads up as I wouldn't have checked prior to disassembly.
  22. At 425 degrees F it goes on tight with some tapping. 325 degrees F it doesn't. Alot of polyurethane starts to melt in the mid to low 300's so I placed a call into Energy Suspension.
  23. I went to a ZZtop show last week. Could have swore I heard Billy Gibbons say "She's got a spindle puller, she knows how to use them..."
