Drove it home today. First time I have ever driven a Z31. Not bad actually. Wasn't getting on it or anything as it has 1 YO gas in it and the oil looks like road tar. Just wanted to get it home and start treating it like a Z. Even driving it reather anemically, it surprised me at how little of a 'boat' it was. It is quite an agile car, even with the power steering (which is Quite stiff). You turn the wheel a bit and it points its nose down sharp into the direction you want to go. I can't wait to get it in a condition where I am confident 'driving' it. Anyways.... this is in 'Body and Paint' because.... I am taking off the horribly faded and peeling door guards. They are about 1 1/4" wide black rubber with a 3/4" body colour (red) inset. It is held on with white double-sided foam tape. What is the best way to get it off? I peeled on section off and most of the tape stays. It is really sticky stuff. The alloys have a clear-coat that is peeling really badly in sections. Strip it off and re-clearcoat it? What happens if I just strip it and leave it? steve77/86
  3. jeffP owns this car? steve77/86
  4. Since polls have shown this site 99.9% male, I am going to skip all the he/she/it PC crap... steve77/86

OK, that makes sense......the first thng I noticed about the motor was the valve cover, which had giant NISSAN in huge relief (like 1/2 inch high, 2" tall letters). The owner said the valve cover was "really rare". Steve Landoni at Z's Unlimited said in not-too-distant history, (the strange valve covers) came on all the re-manufactured engines from Japan and he has "thrown away hundreds of them". So, mystery solved. "Slap'em together and send them over to those Americains!" Thanks alot. steve77/86

    >>>>if you got the "i'm not gonna tell you who told me", it was me. i figured that since you had been posting about it on the net, she had to know. i half expected to see it yesterday <<<< Yup, even under fairly heavy torture, whe wouldn't tell me. I was going around the table person by person. There were only about three people there who knew and I had instructed them carefully before lunch that she didn't know. I TOTALLY forgot you were a member here. I hadn't drawn any lines between 240z.org and CCZCC. I DID talk about it here because everyone on this site lives in, like, Iceland, or Ohio. Me and my big mouth.... No worries, it's all good. steve77/86

Well, I am having it re-upholstered, put a new MAS/afm in it and put a new 5-speed in it and was planning on giving it to my wife for Valentine's Day. She still didn't know about it. BUT SOME BOZO at the CCZCC luncheon today goes AND TELLS HER ABOUT IT!!!! MAN! did I get the monobrow! I had some serious 'spaining to do on the drive home. But all is cool...she thinks it was 'cute' I was going to give her a red Z for Valentine's. Whew! steve77/86

  14. Got the intake today...thanks a ton. I see you have been editing the post as you go along. I don't remember seeing any injectors on there before??? I would have bought those too! Oh, well...next time. Small, weird world how I received the entire upper end of my new engine project from you--in two scenarios! Thanks again. steve77/86
  15. I think everybody has a pile of head bolts around...I put four of them on the bottom of my blocks (I have four or five in the garage in various stages of dismantling) and stand them up on these 'legs'. It gets them up off the ground and makes it easy to walk them around. See, I do'nt have a cute doggy like 2many and have to walk my L blocks around. steve77,86
  16. Sorry, no I do not. all I know is they are black and long and go perfectly into the holes in the rear. steve77/86
  17. Sorry for all the $$$$......I have always just used head bolts and depending on your stand, several 1/2 washers. steve77/86
  18. Doesn't anybody just use head bolts? steve77/86
  19. Happy new year everyone!!! >>>>>January luncheon this coming Sunday, the 19th in Lompoc at The Jetty on Ocean. 12 noon. Let's caravan! Those of you coming from the North, meet at my house no later than 10:30am. My place is just off the 101. I am at 746 Via Bandolero, first street behind Trader Joe's in Arroyo Grande. You can take either the Oak Park or Halcyon exit. >>>>>I am hoping (fingers crossed) the 2003 CCZCC WINTER EDITION shirt will be ready in time for Sunday. These are light-coloured denim, heavy-weight long-sleeved, pocketed, button-down shirts with our logo embroidered on the breast. All I have changed is the colour of the Z in the logo. For this shirt the car is ORANGE! Not sure about pricing yet, probably in the $25-30 range. You will LIVE in this shirt! >>>>>Remember the Vintage Auto Racing Association race clinic at Buttonwillow February 1st and 2nd. I am going...who else? Sounds like a great experience. >>>>>SAD, LONELY Z OF THE MONTH: '72 auto, Chartreuse, repainted, but same colour as original. Nice interior. Really clean inside and out. Motor spotless (e88). All stock with slotted mags. Just starting to rust. A few bubbles around the hatch '240z' badge...a few bubbles in the rockers...battery tray surface. Unfortunately, they want $2000 for it. It is MAYBE a $1000 car. Little used car lot down on Hwy. 1 in Oceano. Alianza Motors. 805-473-2095......So sad..... >>>>>Don't forget the Ragged Point Run Feb. 16. Bring your sweetheart or a sweetheart of a Z! The restaurant and parking lot is reserved. I need to start getting a list of who's coming. I have to give the restaurant a rough idea by the first of Feb. And be sure and don't forget brekky at the Istead's in Paso the morning of. >>>>>Time to start planning for the Motorsport Automotive 2003 West Coast Nationals. I am expecting at least ten from this club to be in the show. The date is April 27. Register at www.zcarparts.com >>>>>Be sure and put March 16 in your calendars. This will be our Second Annual Scandinavian Smorgaasborg at the Danish Inn. Restaurant and Parking reserved for Z's!!!! >>>>>For those of you keeping score at home, this January basically represents our first year anniversary. A little over a year ago I hesitantly placed a post on ZCAR.com asking if anyone from the Central Coast area would be interested in getting together for lunch with their Z's. What an unbelievable response we have received. We are now ZCCA sanctioned with an 'official' membership of 25 and an e-mail list of over 100 local Z owners. Together with the generous support of GROUPZ in LA and SDZC in SD, and Central Valley Z Car Club, we communicate with several hundred enthusiastic Z folks every time I press 'SEND'! If I attempt to list all the wonderful folks who have been instrumental in getting this thing off the ground, I will undoubtedly leave far too many out. SO THANKS TO ALL!!!! You know who you are! See you in Lompoc! Steve McConnell 746 Via Bandolero Arroyo Grande, CA 93420

Yes, I'm exagerating a bit... I honestly do not know what they weigh, but one attended our club's recent dyno day and it had 142 at the rear wheels. steve77; 86

If it makes you feel anybetter...I found some rust today. The lip that holds the w-strip right over the hatch latch has a spot about two square inches with a pinhole that is allowing water to run under the rear deck carpet. So THERE! It's a beautiful car. It really is. If you find a Z31 that is the right colour, and not a 2+2 and with the right wheels...they are really nice looking cars. Unfortunately for them, they are 140 hp and 3500 lb's. steve77;86

OK, gotta 'fess up. It's an 86. SORRY...couldn't resist messin' witcha. I wasn't even in the market for this car. I have been looking hard for another 1st gen. I WOULD NEVER buy a z31. Then this guy calls me and says he really needs to get rid of the car and I had left a club flyer on it several months ago. Wants to know if I know of anyone before he advertizes or junks it. Say's he'd take 1000. I give him the usual "I'll let a few people know..." I remembered putting the flyer on the car and stopped by to look closer at it. It really is a nice-looking car! Bright red with the factory rear spoiler and t-tops. I was quite surprised. Mostly surprised at my positive reaction to it. So I bought it and towed it to Z's Unlimited. And I did the unthinkable...I visited z31.com yesterday. steve77;86
