  1. the car is a 1974 datsun 260z early production date 8/1974
  2. does anybody know where to pick up a rocker switch for the console? I am looking to install the fog lights and would like to install the rocker switch in the spare location next to the hazard switch to control the fog lights. I am not sure if a regular rocker switch will fit?thanks
  3. by the way like my rotor made in china ! it is a Beck Arnley part! just noticed it in the photo lol
  4. I have owned this 260 since 1979. I restored it in the early to mid 90s and bought parts for the last 30 years . but for the life of me I can not remember where I picked up this cover , but it sure looks handy for this application . like I said I believed it was tap for 1/4" bspt and I retaped it for 1/4" npt.
  5. here it is
  6. just for an update, I did install the new sensor switch which is 200 on and 185 off in the thermostat cover. with a digital probe in the top of the radiator the fan turns on now at 209 degrees but does not turn the fan off with temperature down to 174 degrees, that was tested in my garage. now driving around town and highway the fan never kicks on at all and my temperature gauge is at the start of the m in the temp word. I did order 2 sensor switches at the time to compare them both and both have the same results. the outside air was dry and around mid 60s. I would like to have been closer to the 200 degree on, and even 180 off would have been nice. I guess when it does get warmer here like 90s I will see what happens. I may have to go to a adjustable controller. but I really like just having just 1 relay, 1 sensor switch, and a bypass turn on switch in the cabin . all of the fan adjustable temperature controllers that I have seen are not waterproof and need to be installed in the cabin. the car never see the rain unless I get caught in it.
  7. I was not saying anything about the power coated cover! I meant that I wanted nice looking bolts and found allen head [stainless steel] nice looking bolts to go with the cover. but they were about 1/8" shorter and I did not want the torque any higher than 84" pounds. I have no problem with leaks, so when it is time to adjust the valves I will change the gasket. I am sure the nissan gaskets are nice but do you think nissan really makes there own?
  8. aftermarket gasket I believe it was a felpro . I have a power coated valve cover with stainless steel bolts. they were about a 1/8" shorter then the factory bolts, that is why I stopped at 84" pounds on the torque. I did use black rtv gasket sealer and I only applied a very thin layer on the head and set the gasket on it with the bolts holding it in place until it got tacky. then I applied a very thin layer of the rtv on the cover and put it together . I did let it set over night before I started the motor.
  9. mine leaked and had to use rtv, the bolts would not stay tight at 84 inch pounds. I did not want to snap a bolt so if I need to go into the valve train I will replace the gasket.
  10. I bought a champion 3 row aluminum radiator from jegs
  11. the sensor is in the top thermostat cover, the cover is rare. I am not sure what motor it came off of maybe the 280 zx turbo automatic car but there is a port in the top thermostat cover that was 1/4" bspt and I retaped it to except 1/4" npt threads .
  12. I just picked up a digital cooking thermometer and placed it in the radiator under the cap and the fan come on at 172 degrees.I purchased a 200 degree on and a 185 degree off , I can not believe for the life of me that is off by 30 degrees . it is made by american volt company. go figure I guess I will look on amazon for a different brand . I did try to buy usa go figure. when the new sensor come here I will post my report thanks kully
  13. yes, it is running at highway speeds I can tell by the ammeter. the sensor is located in the thermostat housing cover! the cover has a port in it which I tap for 1/4" npt sensors .
  14. I have a cooling question I installed a champion 3 row aluminum radiator with a spal 13" electric fan and a nissan brand 180 degree thermostat. now my fan sensor is a american volt brand that is 200 degree on and 185 off that is installed in the thermostat housing cover. at highway driving my fan runs all the time. around town it will cycle on and off. I do not think this is normal for highway driving at 70 degrees outside. anybody have a thought ? in the old days the water pump would leak when bad the seal. not leaks at all and I run water wetter with premix prestone antifreeze. thanks
  15. try any dealer or nissan parts.com
  16. try a dealer you might get lucky
  17. american volt sells the switch but I can't find out what the threads are.
  18. I am looking to install an electric cooling fan switch in the upper thermostat housing . anybody know where to purchase one, and what temp would I want for the fan to come on with a 180 degree thermostat .also what about the thread size if anybody knows that . thanks
  19. thank you , yes I did just notice that on the rock auto site
  20. well time to get the z going again and I hope ever body has a safe season this year!! my question is I have a 1974 260z with a 1983 zx motor . I would like to change the oil pressure sender and I see on rock auto the 1974 260z has a different part #. the 260z takes a standard part # ps171 and the 1983 280zx take a standard ps173 .so with a 280zx oil pump what would be the correct part # I believe I should use the 260z part # to go with the original gauge but what is your thoughts .thanks

if it does advance when rpms are increased that is also the mechanical advance, and the vacuum advance still might not be working.
