steerin lock switch problems

Featured Replies

Goodmorning, I searched the forum for my problem, but could not find the solution.

I have a problem with the two wires going to the steering lock switch.

According to the diagram, there should be a red and a black wire. The black wire is in place (see photo), but the red wire needs to be installed in the small hole indicated by the arrow.

It is very difficult to access, and how do you secure the wire? There is voltage on the red wire. What happens if the red wire is not inserted and I remove the key, which is currently still in the ignition lock?

Thanks.

Just to clarify for anyone else reading this thread: There are no wires going to the "steering lock switch" - The switch is the "Theft Protection System" and when working it activates a buzzer when you open the door and the key is still in the ignition. So it should be the "Remember To Take The Key Out Of The Ignition System". That switch and it's wiring has nothing to do with the steering column lock.

The wires are soldered on to brass contacts inside the plastic cover.

Nothing happens when you remove the key from the ignition switch (or "key cylinder") if the wires are disconnected OR broken off of the switch. The buzzer will not sound because the electrical circuit is incomplete.
