i just watched a video i did of checking for power at the coil area..  power goes to one side of the balast but does not come out the other side  and does not get power to the coil..  is that correct???

No, that is incorrect.  You need a meter or a test light.  It's an easy test.

There should also be a ground wire on the bottom bolt hole of the distributor's pedistal. They're on my cars.

Once this part is figured out it's on to carburetors!  😀

Disconnect the wires, remove the ballast resistor and turn it over.  Looks like it might be damaged.  The wire is probably broken.

ok...   that is something to check .. i never knew there was a wire under there  - thought it was a solid block... i have this one.. will it work??

only two prongs on this one..  came with coil,,,,  my balast resistor did get pretty toast when trying to start car..
