I have 1974 early 260z ,   I just installed a new datsun voltage regulator and what is next to it is a large box that says 3a fuse link. it is located just behind the passenger side headlight next to the carbon canister .does anybody know what this is for ?

If it has two large wires, white and white/red, and two small wires connected to it then this is the shunt. This is what controls the amp meter on the dash.
