Just wondering if anyone has input on this. As I sit and ponder the fact of a 'cross-flow' engine system, I really start to wonder why this design wasn't used as a standard on the L-series engines.

FYI, cross-flow means that the exhaust and intake manifolds are on opposite sides of the engine.

To me, this seems like a more logical design for an engine.

Any input?

What is the advantage of a crossflow head?

The only disadvantage(that I see) to the 'standard' L series head is that the exhaust manifold is so close to the intake manifold.

Where are the spark plugs located on a crossflow head?

you got it Jeff, having the intake and exhaust on the one side increase intake temperatures, and reduces power.

Can you think of a way to COOL the intake manifold.
