I once had a Bridgestone SR-20 that had a tread pattern very close to the one shown, if not the same.  I was also made of a rubber compound that I have never felt before.  It had a strange feeling to it.  It didn't feel like any other tire.  The rubber was slick & squeaky when rubbed.  That tire is now in Japan on one of Kats' Z-cars.
