April 7, 200322 yr comment_32965 240's are hard to get in Australia, but then so are the 260 2 seaters. I paid 900 for the heap that you can see in my avtar (was complete and running at the time, no rego, with a fair amount of rust). If budget is really tight, a 260 2+2 would be the way to go, in many peoples opinion not as nice, but this is reflected in the price, and an ok one can be had for a couple of grand, when a 2 seater in similar condition would cost at least twice that much.Good luck finding one, If you're in melbourne or sydney, you have a fair chance, anywhere else and you need to travel to melbourne or sydney to pick one up.Cheers Chris Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/5515-260z-240z/#findComment-32965 Share on other sites
April 7, 200322 yr comment_32977 Well Z's are brilliant cars but finding a good one is very difficult. Took me 4 years to come across one as good as mine which you can see in my gallery it's the red one.I've had a 2+2 there not bad but it depends on what you wanna do I guess. You say you'd like a SR20 in a Z but you could probably get a 180sx here in Aus cheaper than it would be to put one in a Z. You'd be better off with an RB engine in my opinion.A stock Z is good on fuel considering no injection and a 6 cylinder engine. If you really wanna build a serious project I'd suggest getting a run about car for a couple of hundred dollars Roadworthy and registered. It all depends on what you want from the car and how much you love them???Good Luck! April 7, 200322 yr comment_33007 I agree with the other guys posts but to answer some of your other questions: The 260Z coupe is virtually the same in appearance as the 240z but is heavier by about 150-200 kg. As I understand it most of this weight increase was from Nissan strengthening the chassis for safety. The 2+2 is heavier again. The 260Z also came out with flat top carbs to lower emissions but they also lowered performance, the emission stuff also added a bunch of tubes & crap on the manifold. Nissan then increased the engine capacity by 200cc to try and compensate for the added weight and the emission control. If you are looking to eventually do an engine swap I would point you towards the 260Z for a couple of reasons. Firstly their stronger chassis would probably be better for high powered swaps, consider the safety factor as well. Secondly, 240Z are getting very collectable in stock form so in the long run you might actually be damaging its value. All that being said, the 240Z being lighter will be faster than a 260 with the same mods.Oh yeah, I also think you should go for an RB motor. The RB20 is cheaper than an SR now and there is a lot more documentation on RB swaps into Zs. April 8, 200322 yr Author comment_33064 Thanks for the help, i was looking for a 2x2 anyway cos as u all have probably experienced, when u first get your P's you become a taxi for non P mates so i wanted something with more room.theres a non reged 260Z 2x2 (i think) for $1000.00 and theres a full reged but stock 260Z 2x2 for $3500.00 in the local paper, what would you guys recommend i mean is there any real problems i should look for going for a unreged car apart from the obvious rust ans rebuild/twisted chassis evidence?again thanks for the helpLaMe_ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/5515-260z-240z/#findComment-33064 Share on other sites

April 8, 200322 yr comment_33073   La Me, You say that you particularly want a 2+2 so you can act like a taxi driver for your mates. Question; Are all your mates MIDGETS ??????????????? I tried sitting in the rear seat of a 2+2 and wound up with my knees jammed under my chin. Wouldn't have one. (Personal choice). Given a choice between an unregistered for $1000 and a registered Z for $3500 I would lean more towards the registered Z, (as long as it comes with a roadworthy cert.). I would also go over the entire car with a strong magnet wrapped in a soft rag, (avoids damaging the paint job), to check for bogged up cancer. I bought my 260 Z Sports Coupe in Brisbane for $3500, and drove it up to Rockhampton. After having the carbies tuned, the second thing was replacing the welsh plugs. The originals were as thin as tissue. I had them replaced with brass plugs. Since then I've spent, at last count, around 8k and I still have the rear wheel bearings to replace. (Hopefully that will be it). When you are looking for parts, just post a request for info on this site and you will get all the info you need. Good luck and ENJOY your Zed. Rick. April 8, 200322 yr comment_33103 warren from Zworx will fix ur chassis no problem.. give him a call on 95875500well i have a 260z 2 seater for sale... looking at around 6500 with RWC, and have spent like what 1 bravo 6 said getting the car just right... now i don't want it no more, about the 2+2... personally i wouldn't bother getting a 2+2.. they don't look as good and don't go as well, and not as respected... as a 2 seater.. I had my 2 seater since i was 17, and loved the 2 seats, don't worry about ur mates wanting lifts. one of them will buy a commodore or falcon, and u'll be killing them all day long with the Z... btw my 2 seater 76 260z is for sale atm, whopps already said that.. hehe.. i posted it in the sale section, not sure if its still there, it will be in the trading post this thursday.. $6500 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/5515-260z-240z/#findComment-33103 Share on other sites
