Posted December 19, 201410 yr comment_460581 Hey mates This past week my transmission has developed a highly annoying vibration that is heard through the shifter - most notably through the awesome wooden knob on the top. It only occurs in 1st, 3rd and 5th gear but not at all in 2nd or 4th. Any ideas? I am thinking its the shifter bushing but would like a group's opinon.Basic description. Imagine if you will a sound of wood vibrating....amplfy it slighly and add a slight metalic noise to it and bam. December 19, 201410 yr comment_460588 Jan, I had exactly the same sound and could not track it down, I rebuilt the transmission and that still didn't solve it. Finally I tracked the sound to the stick shift knob insert vibrating against the shift lever, the hollow space inside the knob amplified the sound and the shift pattern cap acted as a drum skin.I solved it by wrapping the threads with plumbers teflon tape and stuffing the hollow space inside the knob with dense foam.Chris Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/50627-transmission-vibration/#findComment-460588 Share on other sites
