Hey guys. So I'm putting my Z back together and I am at a hard spot. I have both the original door locks, but I'm missing one piece on one of them. You can see it in the picture below. Now, I know I can purchase a new set of locks, and it will have the same part, but I was hoping someone here MIGHT have one just laying around. . .

If no one seems to have that part available, search through the threads. There was a thread on getting locks available through the parts stores (or eBay) that could work. The worst case is that you would have to get it re-keyed.

I might have that part laying around. I need time to check.

I'd bet Les at Classic Datsun in Vista would have a shoe box full of them. I know the owner of ZTherapy would, as many Z's as he's boned out over the years.

I'll be checking with both of them tomorrow. I actually also need the push pin to keep that piece in place. When I took the old one off my lock, it flew into the world of nothingness that is my garage. . . I literally spent 1 hour searching for a needle in the haystack.

Mont : If you find the piece let me know. No rush, waiting on the plates from taiwan before i actually install the locks. I swear, its the little things that seem to get you every time you start this process.

Keep in mind that not all of the manufacturers use the same shape for the rotating cam post that sticks out the back of the lock. This, of course, also means that there are more than one shape used for the corresponding hole in the actuation arm that clips onto the back of the lock.

Point is, if your plan is to buy a new lock and move that arm over from the new one to the old one, it might not fit.

To make matters worse, the factory locks seem to be unique in their shape... Granted, I'm no lock expert and I've surely not seen all the options available, but I can attest that the aftermarket Chinese locks on ebay use a different cam and hole design and their newer arms will not fit the post on the original locks.

@Captain : Well . . . I'm super stoked this morning. I tore around cleaning up the garage and found the part I needed. BUT, now I need that damn little push pin to keep that part on the lock itself.

I also spoke with Les @ Classic Datsun (great guy BTW) and he said if he had time he'll give a look around and see what he can find.

I'm going to continue looking around the garage, just incase I can save everyone the hassle. :-)

I don't have any near me. Do you know where else I could pick it up? I'm guessing ACE hardware would carry it? Do you happen to have a part number?

I don't know about ACE, nor I don't have parts number with me, sorry. I suggest bring other side of the door lock pin to ACE to find the same size of the pin.
