Exterior Paint Color

Recommended Posts

Ok, I know immediately that I am going to get blasted for this post. Getting ready to have my 76 280Z painted and I know that no one can tell you what color to paint your car. The car is completely stock but I am not sold on going back to the original color which was green.

I am leaning towards a shade of orange but go back and forth. My friend is suggesting painting like a budlight beer can, light blue with grey and red strip.

I am looking for a color that makes a statement but not like other cars on the road.

If you have any suggestion I would appreciate and if so photos would be nice.

Also, I am considering a body kit with both front and rear spoilers and side pieces. There goes my stock car. Any suggestions?

Interior is black.

bhermes,

Have you looked at the cars posted in the Garage section? You can look at a lot of different cars and see what different colors look like. How much of the car are you going to be able to paint? Is this a complete paint job, inside and out? or are you just repainting the exterior? When you change the color there are a lot of potential places where you may notice the change in color (under the hood?

No, I have not looked in the garage section. Not even sure what is there but I will look now. I will be painting as much as possible and hopefully everything. Not sure what needs to be done to be able to paint inside the engine area but will want to get everything painted. I have a few good people that are going to help paint the car at a good price ($2000). The car is currently white with blue racing strips (poor job) with some of the insides green and some red.

Thanks.

I really like 302 Leif Green Metallic. I think it is one of rarest colors and it is a 76 original color. it's very close to 113 green.

You put the 113 green on with a bunch of clear coat and then see it in the sun light... its pretty stunning

Ooooh, I like that color! If I ever have my car "Professionally" painted I may try to match that!.

I like solid blues on these cars, especially gumball blue, which is similar to bhermes suggestion. You could always go with a BRE styled paint scheme, that always looks good on the Z.

I've competed with the light blue car in 3 shows, the ghost flames are great, along with other tid bits this car has.

This is my 73 in a darker blue, very close to 115 metalic blue.

All of these are great. My 280Z I owned back in 1981 was orange and I really have a history with this color and liked it. I also like the toyota dark green along with the light blue.

I will be getting new window gaskets/seals and rear, front spoilers and body kit.

Then the painting begins.

I have removed the front and rear bumpers and ust curios of what is nomally done on the rear to cover?

Thanks for all of the options.

Thread I started back in Nov. I am ready to paint within the next month and have 90% decided on the orange Z color in jackboxxx reply above.

I need to know if this was an original z color and if so how to get the paint or what I need to do to identify.

Any help and comments would be appreciated.

That orange looks alot like what my old 260 was. It looked almost red in different light, original paint. it was the early 260z I think it was 918.

Could be code 110 (persimmon). Hard to say from the photo, computer monitors displaying colors as they do. I like #110 'cuz some people think it's red, others think it's orange. It's both really, depends on available light.

Does anyone else agree or think otherwise. This looks correct to me but just want to make sure. Also, out of my ignorance for painting does this need a certain type of finish coat? Just really like the look and want to match as close as possible.

Thanks grantf for the response.

I agree on the 110 Red. My 260Z is 110 and it's a great color, looks orange in the sun and red in the shade.
