but now that i've got my engine assembled, head bolted on etc., where do i attach the chains to hoist it? i'm not seeing anything obvious on the block, like "slingers." the fsm doesn't offer much insight...

not much better than fsm, but says center hook over engine. attach the ends of the sling to the engine-lifting lugs-one at the front of the block; another at the rear.there are no pics of said lugs.

thanks! i do not have those. are they bolted onto the head? it's sort of hard to tell from the photos.

Yes, they bolt into the head. If you use some steel bolts that you have in your shop/garage for lifting, make sure you have good thread engagement; at minimum 8 threads. Also, keep lifting hooks as close to the head as possible to minimize torque on the bolt.
