Mystery Nissan Air Cleaner

Featured Replies

I just purchased a parts car in San Diego and I got this Nissan air cleaner in one of the boxes of parts. Can anybody tell me what it goes to? Thank you in advance...

Isn't that the standard air cleaner from a 280Z or maybe a 280zx? I'm no expert, I'll check the galleries.

i think it goes to an 75 or newer 280z

75 was the first year for fuel injection and the cleaner was located at the front of the car between the bumper and radiator

yeah my car had one before i changed to cold air intake

that goes to a fuel injected 280Z or ZX. it would normall go in front of the radiator support (in bewteen the radiator and the front grill)

won't work on your car but clean and sell it to a 280 owner.

Dave.

i still have mine somewhere around here

did it come with a plastic piece that went on the front?

Yep, 12/74-7/78 280Z air cleaner. The plastic part with the mounting tab intact and the rubber seal that goes on the end of the air cleaner are somewhat hard to find but not overly so. And the clamp that holds the two pieces together. Probably not worth much more than the one on eBay unless it's complete. I've got a couple of those too but I'm also using a cold air intake/K&N filter on mine:

The way you show it, it's for a 75 or 76 with out the black funnel part.

Here are 2 pictures from my 11/75 build 1976Z, this is stock.

Yeah, I was going to add that the three pieces; funnel, seal, and clamp were for the 77-78 but I ran out of edit time.

  • 2 years later...

I've recently converted my 260 to an L28 EFI.

I installed one of these filter boxes which I purchased from someone on this site (thanks).

I had to swap as Australian regs won't allow me to keep the pod filter as I had fitted legally unless I enclosed in a box.

Took the car for it's first real good run this weekend and it feels strangled.

Is this a common observation between these air intakes or am I imagining it?

I know pod filters are designed as "performance" modifications, just didn't think I would notice much difference.

On the plus side, think my fuel economy really improved over. Did about 700km over 2 days was getting about 11-12 litres per 100klm.
