I think I'm going to bid.................. What do you think about it Arne?

What you want to check for on the E31 is corrosion in the coolant passages. Unfortunately he isn't providing a picture of the bottom so you can't see them. The E31 tends to erode there so that the passages get larger and larger and can eventually cause a leak in the headgasket.

I know that was another thing I was going to ask him. But do you notice what color the rust is on the side of the head?

No opinion. As Jon noted, we can't see the water passages. Plus I'm still of the opinion that for a street engine, the difference between an E31 and say... an E88 or N42 probably isn't noticeable.

I don't think I'd want to pay all that much for it, regardless.

Yeah I know what you mean, but isnt rust on alumium suppsed to be a baby blue color?

Do you think I hould ask him to email me a picture of the bottom of the head?

Forget about the E31. Too much trouble, too much cost, and not enough benefit. If you've got an L24, stick with the E88. If you've got an L28, get an N42. Don't worry, be happy. ;)

'Just stick with what you've got man.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Unless the head you've got right now is broken and needs some machining or something don't even bother... Have you even run a comrpession check on all of your cylinders?

There wouldn't be any point in trying to squeeze the best compression ratio out of your block if you've got bad compression on your pistons, ya know?

'Just thought I'd bring it up.

Yeah I have checked the compression and that's why I'm rebuilding my engine. But yeah I have an N42 I guess I can be happy LOL. Thx Ian
