What ever happened to the Movie Speed racer? I did a search on blockbuster.com, and they only had DVDs of the cartoon.

I saw a Speed Racer today. It was a slammed Civic. It went hard into a downhill righthand corner and ran into the back of a Chevy pick-up. It was a very cool Civic with rubberband tires, huge exhaust, decals and everything. I guess he just got too pumped up and forgot about the traffic. Ooops! Is this the type of Speed Racer you are talking about? Heh, heh!

For real? Did you see it happen?

I'm talking about the Speed Racer movie based on the cartoon from the late '60s (Speed Racer, Pops Racer, Trixie, Racer X, Spritle, Chim-Chim, Sparky...)

This kid set himself up in a drift just before the pick-up stopped. The entire front end of the Civic was G-O-N-E. It was just like in the movies except he has to pay the fine and the expenses.

Drifting.... What a stupid, useless thing to do: drive your car recklessly sideways, while burning up your tires & give cancer to the people watching.

I'll bet the people that go drifting are in favor of smoke-free buildings...

I never knew they were even thinking about making one. If they did, would they stay true to the 'toon and have the vocal track out of sync with the visuals? That would be so cool.

by the way, if you were to make your own Mach 5, what would you use as the base vehicle? Before I gave away my Fiat, I envisioned turning it into that famed car. Then the realization sank in that I know nothing about bodywork (fiberglass, bondo, welding...), but it would be so nice to have a mach 5 (complete with built in stilts and extendable saw blades) in the drive.

The Mach 5 was a spyder with a glass bubble-top.

I think it was a derivation of the 64 Ferrari 250 Testrossa

Actually the bubble only came out when it was raining or the car went under water. :beard:
