Before your comment, most have told me to go to the "local hardware store for bolts" and since I want the right kind like you said, I'm looking all over the internet, and I did call a few local places. Even THEY tell me to go to the local hardware store "for bolts."

I was hoping somebody might know of a source for stainless bolts that are like the ones under the hood of the Z. Dealer "doesn't sell just the bolts. Go try a hardware store":devious:

I order them from courtesy.com at least once a year in good numbers.

I bought that parts CD for a reason. It's a complete waste of energy to search for something that "Looks like stock" when "Stock" is readily availible.

That's the number I saw, but I think those screws are just plain steel, no? I'm constantly de-rusting screws, and I'd like to replace them just one last time, even if they're zinc or cad-plated ones.

OK. I will go to my "Salem Screw" supply house and see if they have these 08360-61212 Screw-Machine bolts. If Nissan has them, we can go to the supplier. What does a package of 10 cost? $5? $10?

after i've removed and cleaned (wire wheeled/polished) any bolts, i hit them with a light spritz of clear spray enamel/lacquer/polyurethane. it seems to preserve them and help to prevent any future corrosion.

I don't ever remember receiving "just plain steel" bolts, screws, nuts or washers - when I ordered OEM Nissan parts. They have always been either zinc or Cad. plated from Nissan.

Both zinc and cad. plating are sacrifice coatings - meanin that they are sacrificed in order to save the original metal and it's strength. After 30+ years you can or should expect the plating on all the fasteners to have seriously degraded. Once you clean them up - all the original plating is GONE - and if you don't paint or re-plate them at that point - they will form rust quickly.

No, they're Zinc dichromate (yellow cad whatever)

If you have a spare and want to mail me one I'll go check the local nut & bolt supply house for a stainless steel one for you. Heck, if they carry them maybe I'll become a reseller of them for the club since they seem to be so hard to come by.

Courtesy Nissan can get them for you. (They do not stock these bolts) They are $.85@. If you get 20 they will cost you $17 + 8.95 shipping = $25.95
