RB30 + Insurance ?

Featured Replies

I've come across an RB30 engine, it's a proper runner with full loom, ecu, rebuilt head but with no 'box for AU$300. This would be a great base for an engine build up. I wasn't particularly looking for one, but it's being sold by the guy my brother works for who wants to clear some space in his workshop.

The problem...

INSURNACE

I'm only 19 so even getting only 3rd part property isn't going to be a fun prospect.

So...

Is this a real bargain or just normal price? What are my chances of getting a RWC for this conversion and what are my chances for for reasonably priced insurance?

What to do???

Best you can do is ring some insurance company's and ask them. Shannons or Justcars might do it, but none of the mainstream ones will.

Yeah, I'm currently with Shannons under a big family group deal thing. Might have to give them a buzz, anyone know how much complete RB30s generally go for?

I reckon that this is the direction that i would like to head eventually.

Yeah shannons wont do it, is it a Turbo Rb30? If you cant find insurance PM me, i know a place that was gonna insure me with a 1JZ for 1.3k for an agreed value of 10k with a 1k excess.

$300 isnt that great, Wacol wreckers quoted me that over the phone with a box and a warranty

insurance, try young and cool, just cars, and NRMA they are cheap

Off the top of my head I thought the age cut off for shannons was 20. Realistically, there's some time and money in doing an RB swap, especially if you can't do it all yourself. You'll probably be 20 by the time it's done. ;)

Anyway, if you did make the age cut, shannons would be the go for sure. My zed is currently insured with them for 5k, as a modified car, I'm rating one and it's $280/yr full comp. Back when I was rating 2 it was $350. Pretty damn good IMO.

I didn't realise Shannons was so good back in the day my 2+2 was $700-$800 for third party only obviously they've done some revision.

My 240z is now with GIO for $300 full comp they might be another to try. :classic:

Yeah Gav, but your car isnt modified. Regular Insurance companies stay clear of modified cars.

A friend at work just got some very reasonable quotes on an SR20DET 1600 from shannons and unique cars. He is 24 though.

If you go through with the RB30 conversion, I have engine mounts and brand new nissan 200ZR rear facing sump you will require, if your interested.

All you young hooligans pay attention.

I've been fined for speeding, had a couple of accidents and have lost my license for a 3 month period for speeding (111 in 60 zone). At the time of the accident and loss of license (happened within a one week period. yeah was an awful week in my life) i was driving a Skyline R33t. Insurance was nearly impossible to find and after calling what must have been all of the companies I came across Famous Insurance. They not only insured me but they gave me a quote that was 1 third of the price of my premium prior to my accident/suspension!

Now, your case might be different but my policy was limited to 10,000km and can't park anywhere on the street after 11pm unless it is your residence. Neither bothered me and actually suited me at the time.

I am now in my third year with them and on my third car with them. My current policy is for my 240 that's umm, not what you would call original and all the big insurance companies laughed at me when I tried to get a quote. Famous not only gave me a policy right away but they even gave me a discount for being a member of a car club. All up I pay around $700 which for me is a bargain.

RB30 isn't really a bargain but you might be able to get that price down if you tried.

Good luck

I'm confused. Do you Aussie guys have to tell your insurance co what engine is in your car? Or is this just for custom ins policies?
