anybody done this? i have had my new one sitting on top of my computer for about a month! is there an easier way to replace it than dropping the fuel tank?

I remember doing mine without dropping the tank but it was not easy.

I can't imagine doing it without dropping the tank due to the limited amount of space. I would recommend removing the passenger rear tire though. Even that little bit of space will be welcome after a while.

It's very hard to unscrew one of the 3 screws that hold the bottom bracket into the deck. The 3rd screw is a PITA to get to, but will come out if you have time. I've just dropped my tank last week and it made it a lot easier.

Mine is a series 1, so there might be some differences in fixings.

It's not too much to drop the tank anyway. While you there, you could also give that rusty old tank a refurb. Doesn't take much $.

the only prob i have is that it's my only car... can't be laid up for more than a day. otherwise i'm all up ins!

Iam with Ed , I dont see how you can change the filler hose with out removing the tank. It's a wrestleing match in any event. I used a floor jack that I padded to keep from scratching the paint on the tank, and lifted it in place while I reconnected the straps. Be sure to have the vent lines connected to the tank before you put it in place, especially the upper one in the rear . This whole operation is ocward in any case and I think is a must to drain the fuel before you even start.

I've heard many say that under dash heater hoses are tough, but I spent 4 hours :eek: time a couple of years back replacing what you are contemplating.

The old stiff one is tough to get out, even after all the screws are removed, the lip of tube is a beach to bend, while pushing down.

I'd have to believe you have to be double jointed to a degree to replace with tank in place.

Did your new filler tube come with a new rubber seal that goes between the body and the filler tube under the metal ring?

Seal? My Z cars have only had the rubber gas flap and the tube itself. Do you have a picture of the seal you are refering toi, or a part number? Now I'm curious.

The rubber seal gets held in place by the metal ring. It sits on the lower fender portion. Mine is trashed and was hoping to find a replacement.
