cleaning k and n's

Featured Replies

hey, does anyone know how you are supposed to clean the reusable k and n air filters?

thanks for your help,

brian

I would think you would use a high pressure air hose to get dirt particles out. Can they be cleaned with a liquid?

Vicky

No high pressure hoses! It'l ruin the filter. Spray it with K&N filter cleaner, rinse it from the inside out with a garden hose, let it dry, oil it, and you're good to go.

This is why my husband doesn't let me do anything on the car.........it would be destroyed ROFL

and make sure you oil it with k&n oil because a lighter oil(engine oil, cooking oil :D) won't work as well and could damage the filters..

hmm might want to read the manual LOL dumb arse relatives <his brother here LOL>

Places that sell the K&N filters also sell the recharging kits. Comes with 1- container of soap that you spray on the filter and let it soak awhile before rinsing clean. Then it also has 1-container of oil (red tint in color), that is specially made to lightly spray and coat to catch the dirt particles. I get about 3 or 4 rechargings out of a kit. I also soak the filter in a sink of warm/hot water after the soap has had time to loosen the dirt. The hot water makes the oil & dirt come out easy as I rinse. Let it dry before oiling again, and then re-install, good as new!

Oh and yes, compressed air can tear up your filter or only push the dirt deeper into the inside of the filter, then possibly into your intake! :finger:

oh yes its terribly true :) both have z's as well and our father is thinking of trading in his max for a G35 coupe , we both will be fighting to drive that one ROFL
