Dampening oil added to strut housing between cartridge and housing: I recently had to change the shocks in my Z, and the previous owner had changed the shocks about 3-5 years before, and he had not put any oil in the shaft the strut cartridge had gone in. The Cartridge over time had fused to the strut most likely do to excessive heat, and a lack of lubrication. As a result, this made this out to be a very unpleasant experience for me after being in there for a while the cartridge was stuck in the shaft to where it was VERY VERY difficult to come out. In fact one of the four never came out.. even after the strut had been heated with a torch (which was nece…

I have a 1970 240z that I am restoring and improving. I want to improve handling before working on engine. I have purchased so far Eibach lowering springs, rear strut bar and front and rear sway bars. I am now shopping around for performance shocks. I have been looking at Tokico, KYB, Koni etc. I am probably going to stay away from adjustables becuase of the expense. Can anyone give me their opinion or their feed back of what they have found to be the best for this combination. Car is for fun, not daily driver. Mark

My 73 240Z has a pronounced rumble from somewhere aft of the transmission...all 6 u-joints are tight, the tires are balanced and the exhaust is not touching the frame. The amplitude increases as roadspeed increases, the frequecy does too but not very much. I put the car on jacks and ran it in 4th to about 80 mph and the rumble gets quite annoying..... (my best quess is that something somewhere is a little loose allowing just a few thou movement) any ideas where this is coming from..I haven't looked at the rear bearings yet??...also after my run on the jacks stands I noticed a puddle of gear oil under the transmission but couldn't see how it got out...it was about a cup fu…

I just bought a early 74 260. The struts were shot, so I replaced them this weekend. The car looked lowered, but I wasn't sure if the previous owners cut the springs or what. I pulled them out and found Yellow springs behind the krylon paint job they had. Any idea who makes or made yellow springs? The car sits at 24 inches from ground to top of fender well. Thanks

Hi i am actully a 1970 BMW 2002 owner and not a Nisan owner. (ducking from thrown rocks). But i have a question for you. I was told that the strut inserts on the 2002 might be the same diameter as they are on a Z car. So if you can give me the strut insert dimensions i would really apreciate it. BTW, this is for a shortend strut coilovers. thanks, steve

G'day - I've got a '77 260 with a 2.8 motor, running a 5 speed. Are the clutch plates and pressure plates for a 2.6 motor the same as those for a 2.8 motor? I have no idea of what to purchase - all I know is that my clutch is worn out! Many thanks in advance. Greg - Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Hello Z men and Z Women I just brought my beautiful white 1972 240Z two weeks ago. I have big plans for her. My first thought before the engine is rebuilt it the feel of the cars ride. I like a firm ride but not for racing. I was thinking of coil overs strut/spring setup but I want to maintain a ride height a little under stock. I don no know if coil overs is what I need. I am also want to eliminate noise in the interior while going over bumps. Should a complete Eurothane bushing set underneath change the amount of noise over bumps. Any information will helps Regards DragonZ1972

I brought my '74 260 2+2 out of a 15year hibernation last year, going essentially through all the mechanicals, specifically for this problem - struts, urethane bushing all around, and new tires(alignment done also). Well, I remember that it always took two balancing's to get the shimmy out of the front end on each tire change when it was running in the '80s. But I've been through 3 balancings so far with 2 different places and still have a horrible shimmy above 60mph with no change after each balance. I did cheap out and get some high speed General tires, something that I now totally regret, adding to the injury of taking off the essentially brand new Michelin XZX that I …

How involved is it to change my steering wheel in my '73 240Z? I have a really sweet original wood steering wheel installed now. Yes I know, why woud I want to? Page 28 in the new Motorsport catalog should answer this question. I really want that Autocross D-shaped wheel. I'm such a sucker for gimmicks. Anycase, is it a tough job? What tools are required? Any suggestions? ------------------ "Go into emptiness, strike voids, bypass his defences; hit him where he does not expect you" -Lao Tzu

Any straight advice on this? Will it clear the tunnel? Would I be best advised to go look for a 77-78 5-speed? Should I use the 240Z driveline or not? It will be bolted up to the '81 R200 rear end. Sorry Mike, I realize I just crossed over into two topics. Whoopsie... ------------------ "Go into emptiness, strike voids, bypass his defences; hit him where he does not expect you" -Lao Tzu
