XYZ? When I decided to join the only thing I could think of that had a Z in it was the end of the alphabet and it's simple. If I could choose a different name it would definately be more obnoxious and not necessarily related to Z's. BTW, I love my Z and it's definately not stock!! I didn't buy it as an investment necessarily just to have some fun in and I couldn't afford the early 60's vette I covet. I do like the idea of keeping the L series engine and looking stock but not when it comes performance! Nothing wrong with stock but if you can improve on something , go for it!:classic:

Anyone want to talk about football?
Hey... a 'Couch' Potato huh? Bummer about your middle linebacker last week. You think the brownies can compete this year for a playoff spot? I'm a Bronco fan myself. We'll be saying goodbye to Terrell Davis tonight. Maybe the best back ever to play when he was healthy.

How much did you spend for your Z?
I think I paided more than I should have but there aren't many around here for sale either. I'm in the $4500+ range. I didn't need to do anything to my car but have chosen to make upgrades that suit my desires, all suspension related. With no rust, less than 75K original I felt it was worth the money. The one thing that sort of needs to be done is a new paint job. I fall into the category of 'refreshing' my Z rather than 'restoring'. BTW, when I bought my Z last year another one that I shopped is still available. I could have gotten in for lesswith that car but the car had a lot more rust, no engine mod's as mine does, and a crappy paint job, midnight blue over olive or gold that was visible in all of the door jambs and engine compartment. Yuck!!! I still see it in the locate autotrader every week. Tells you something!

Embarrassed at the traffic light HELP
ZME- Here's a question that maybe you can help me understand. You've owned some Z8's. What is the purpose of owning a Z8 if your not going to drive it in an aggressive manner ie... possibly racing? If it's purely for the track say no more but if it's a street car why own it? Yeah racing is stupid, however there are stretchs of road where there are no intersections, no driveways, no one to jump in front of you and your at the pole position. In a Z8 next to a mustang, Uncle Ben's special, whatever how can you not get on that Z8? What's the point of driving a machine like that? I'm not trying to rag on you I'm just trying to understand owning such an awesome machine and then not using it for what it's built for.

Racing - Who does it?
Okay- We've seen a couple of threads the last month or so on street racing vs. taking it to the track. So here's the question.... Who races at a track and who doesn't? I'm sure this doesn't cover everyone but we can find out who does and does not take it to the track. I think this could be a very interesting poll, so lets be honest. I should preface this by saying I really don't know what would constitute frequent vs. infrequent racing at a track as I have never done it. Further, I would be curious to know who races their car and also drives it around town vs. who has a dedicated race car. Maybe we'll find out something interesting here about who actually races and who is just dangerous to be around on the streets! I forgot on catergory and that would be- I never race.

Embarrassed at the traffic light HELP
ZCAR- I think we've all been there with the honda's and eclipses, especially the 'Uncle Ben's specials'. When you have a nice car that's fast and you get challenged it's hard to restrain. The reality is, yeah we shouldn't street race, but it happens. We also know that trying to get any of these punks on a track, ("excuse me. I don't want to race you now but can we meet this weekend at the local track? ") isn't real either. I know this isn't exactly what people mean when they say keep it on the track, but to sit completely idol when in this situation, please? I would be really, really, really surprised if the folks preaching about the sins of street racing haven't engaged in it a few times themselves. At least stayed with someone for a bit. I'll probably catch hell for my thoughts here but please reflect on your own actions before calling the kettle black. Besides what fun is having a fast car if your going to drive at or below the speed limit? Get a VW bug!

Brake, Ignition and Carb upgrades?
If you go to this web site www.zccw.org they have a blurb on brakes and several mods. Also, if you do a search on '240z brake conversions' on google or something like it you'll get a bunch of hits. I have the toyota calipers on my Z and they work great. I was a little skeptical at first about doing it but now having done it, it's a no brainer IMO. It's a pretty easy mod if you have everything before starting. I bought my calipers from Checker, complete with pads (this way you get the clips you need for the pads) for a toyota pickup btwn 80'-85' 4wd and got pads from porterfield (about $85). That was about $160 for the two. If I ever return my Z calipers I'll get some money back. I also installed Stainless steel lines on all corners ($65) and went to dot 4 brake fluid. The biggest pain is cutting the back dust plate and reconfiguring the 'S' line to the caliper. I did not change the master cylinder or lines to it. Everything works great. I can lock them up pretty easily if need be. I couldn't before the change. Some people don't care for the porterfield pads. There are other pads available but I haven't the experience with them to tell you what works and doesn't work. Others on this site can help there. If you have all the parts it will take you a half day depending on expertise, tools, etc. It should be noted that I do not race my car (except crappy ricers I find while driving around) on track, it's mostly a weekend fun car. Depending on your use you may need to consider further upgrades beyond what I described. MSA sells a kit for about twice this amount but why pay the extra when this setup works pretty well? Have fun.

How old are you?
240z - To answer your question I'm in the 3rd position and edging ever nearer the 4th position:cry: . That's why I got a Z. I used to be able to run really fast, like 4.5 sec's in the 40 yd dash but not anymore. I need a mechanism to propel me at those speeds anymore.:classic:

Whats under your hood?
I have the L26 (it's in a 260Z:stupid: ) with 72 SU's, no smog crap, headers, mild cam and more dirt than I want on just 80K miles.

Need good Mechanic in Denver CO area
Boholio- There's a really good shop up in Boulder. It maybe farther than you want to go but I was told they're the best in the state. Independant motors at 2nd and Pearl in Boulder. There's another shop off of colfax somewhere but I'm not sure of the name or address. That shop had originally worked on my car (via the previous owner) and did a great job. They converted my crappy flat top carbs to a 72 setup with the domed carbs and installed a cam. If I can find the name of it I will post it. Where are you in Denver? BTW, you can find a list of places that work on Z's at www.zccc.com. in the area as well. Good luck.

Buying suspension for 73 240z sugestions please!
I recently replaced all of my stock rubber bushings with eurothane and went from stock springs to the Eibach pro-kit (progressive springs) and from KYB's (unknowingly) to Tokico gas shocks, non-adjustable. I use mine for weekend fun driving mostly. Anyway, these modifications have made a huge difference in my enjoyment factor.:classic: I noticed some difference with the poly upgrade but the springs and shocks were great. I will say that hitting a bump now isn't much fun. I cringe everytime I hit something because the ride is so much stiffer but man when you go into a turn it's like riding on water. It's so fluid and effortless! What a blast. I usually don't try to slow down for turns but accelerate. As for the adjustable Koni's, I thought about them myself but for the way I use my car I decided to sink that money into tires and wheels instead.

Where can I find...
www.zhome.com has some information on original car colors by year and car style. It's on the left hand side of the page down towards the bottom I believe. Not sure about the interior color packages but I think they have that too.
