  1. Hey Symon, I dont see any pics, but would be interested in seeing what you have come up with. I have thought of using some engine stands, in fact I know 2 ppl I can borrow them from. But I decided against doing that and stoped by a local steel yard and picked up some metal. Gonna run the 220 to the garage this weekend and I should have my compressor and welding stuff hooked up and ready to go. I contacted Kmack and he said he was not making rotisseries anymore due to a recent move and new job.
  2. I agree with hls30.com, those tires are way stretched for those rims. To me the scoop, headlight covers, and side markers look out of place on that car. Other than that and the dents up front, it looks pretty clean. Any idea whats under the hood? Also, anyone know what kind of rims those are?

Well the car is sitting in the garage all winter, will not get wet and the humidity will be low. So I think everything should be ok. Even if it does start to surface rust in spots I should just be able to just sand it off when its time for the real paint prep correct?
  4. Looks beautiful.

Ok, i stoped by the paint store today and picked up some ppg dx579 metal cleaner and some rattlecan primer. I mixed up the solution and washed down the bare metal, then I washed it down again with plain water, then dried it with a towel, then I sprayed the primer on. The guy at the store didnt specify any amount of set or dry time between each process. Just to dbl check, did I do this correctly? I sprayed the primer right after I towel dried it, I didnt let it air dry, is this ok? and did this take care of any flash rust that might have already occured from the metal sitting bare for a few days, suprisingly the guy at the store didnt know. thanks
  6. thanks i will try and contact him.
  7. Thanks for the replies, I was hoping to get a great deal on a used one from someone here that built one themselves, not someone making them for business purpose. I cant justify the cost of those. I guess i'll just build one myself, I was only lookin to save some time buying one used but not for those prices. thanks

I got all the tar off the floors of my z and the metal looks good. I used chemical paint stripper to get the glue off the trans tunnel and all the crap off the firewall along with the paint. Then I wiped it down with mineral spirits. Now it has been sitting bare for a few days. What does flash rust look like? The metal on my car doenst apper to be rusting from sitting bare like many ppl say it will. Is this something I should worry about? Im not ready to spray with primer yet, still gotta run the 220 to the garage for the compressor. Should i get a krylon primer and just spray over those bare areas as a temp solution to hold off the rust till im ready to put down the real primer? Do i need to prep the metal first? Im really kind of confused as I have searched many forums and still cant really understand what to do. Any help would be appreciated, I dont want my rust free car to start rusting because i made a stupid mistake. Thanks alot for the help!!!
  9. Hey, just wonder if anyone near Chicago Illinois has a rotisserie they want to sell or rent to me. If not i guess i will have to make my own but figured it would be easier to get a used one. Thanks
  10. Hey guys, im at the point in my restore where im down to a bare shell. Every bolt and such is out of the shell except suspension for now. All interior and engine bay is stripped. I removed the tar from the floors and cleaned it with mineral spirits to bare metal. Now I have the rest of the body to clean. My question is if anyone knows of a good commercial product to remove all the leftover glues, rubber, and other pita stuff. Basically get it down to the paint. Im not ready to take the paint off yet. Ive been using the mineral spirits as i have with past projects, but im just wonderin if there is any kind of recomended spray that will disolve everything down to the paint so i can just wipe it off with ease? I should have my compressor soon so i could just use a sander or wire wheel then but figured i would ask so i could maybe get this thing cleaned off tomorrow. Thanks alot john

  13. Hey bemmerguy, right now i just plan to keep it well maintained as its pretty much in nice condition for a daily driver while the weather is decent. I also picked up a 80 MGB that i sorta have plans for next so we will see how it all unfolds. thanks for all the comments guys. =me after i get done working on my 71 and then go for a cruz in my 72 ha ha ha
  14. hey ron nice cars man, and the Bling Bling for the trailer. ha ha
  15. i would (and did) get a beater for the winter. a while ago i had a little honda crx for a beater and even being fwd that thing was a pain in the snow/icy roads always sliding around and such. locking up the brakes mid turn on ice and slaming into a curb is not fun either. i believe the z is a like 2-300lbs lighter than a crx and rwd, dont know that i would risk that in bad weather conditions. i guess it can be done and if you must i would suggest that you be real careful and take it to one of those hands free washers where you can use the pressure washer and spray down the underbody and fenderwells often to try and keep the rust away. good luck man.
  16. i have a "fasten seatbelts" light between my defrost rocker and choke light on my 72 us model. is yours just empty?

  21. I couldnt wait any longer to drive a z again(while mine is in the middle of a resto). So in fear that i might end up rushing the resto just to be able to drive it again i went out and bought another z. This one is an 2/72 model. Got a great deal on it. The engine/carbs were rebuilt, runs perfect, drives nice and smooth. The dash alone was worth the purchase. ive never seen a dash in this condition, besides the 1600 dollar dashes from msa. and some other small parts on the car are in perfect cond like the grill. i might swap the grill and dash over to my other car. so this is like a daily driver/parts car. its the first five pics of the green one. i cant believe i didnt get any engine shots, sorry http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=8408 let me know what you guys think. also there are some new pics of my project. later.
