You should check your timing at all rpms up to max advance to understand what it is doing and when. Try with and without the vac advance to see what is going on. The neat thing with the distributor is that it is independent of load. It only depends on rpm.

removing stuck rotor
Did you try the adjuster to bring the shoes closer together? I removed one in a junk yard by fracturing the cast aluminum with a hammer.

Steam Powered Z???
Great. Looking forward to seeing it back on the road.

Can you watch the timing with a timing light. It is easy to see the timing at any rpm with a light, especially one that has an adjustable offset. Check at idle, 2000 rpm, 3000rpm and at max advance. (probable ~ 3000)

here is a better way. The method above is not recommended. skip to 2:15 in the vid to pass the boring stuff

Measure the advance with an instrument if you want to tune, otherwise it is guessing.

Fuel level is a tuning parameter in DCOE's to set where the mains come in during progression. It may help optimize the two options you state above.

Crime, punishment, policing, integrity, values, education, motivation, honesty, beliefs have all degenerated very quickly in the last 20 years. It is not just insurance that has gone this way...everything has.- Anyone on Oahu?
I'll be working from June 20-30 and may have some free time to meet and turn wrenches or coffee, etc.- Nice Backside
Looks like a Z with curvy corners at first glance.... an idea for body mods. I guess the fact that one has never seen a trashed GT makes one's eye see a Z in that state and shape (like an illusion).- Has anybody attempted to repair their ECU?
I have seen books on pulse shaping circuits years ago. You may wish to look into this area as well.- Has anybody attempted to repair their ECU?
It would be interesting to see if capacitors have changed much from their stated values in the last 40 years. For understanding why the tweaking resistor works you should dig into the 75-83 FSM's fuel sections as well as reading forums and websites on "AFM" and "LJetronic"- Has anybody attempted to repair their ECU?
I think it is the size of the pot and vibration. The nominal sensor resistance at operating temperature is 325 ohms. A 1% change in your pot (due to under-hood temperature changes and/or vibration) would be 50 ohms so it will change the nominal by ~ 17%.... this is not a linear system however you can eliminate mechanical instability by using resistors and a smaller values pot. Now can you imagine what building a rocket takes given the vibrations and thermal changes!- Nice Backside

Good luck! Looking forward to your findings! Most importantly: Have Geek Fun brother!- 1978 280Z - Getting TOO MUCH Fuel or Not enough? Im stumped - HELP!!!
Ignition switch can wear and cause intermittent spark on start. What are plugs like?- Pics from a car show this weekend
In high speed racing photos, you can normally see the air pressure at the fire wall push the hood up in the corners. Drilling holes into the wheel well is cheating.- Is The 280Z Fuel Injection a "Good" System?
The wolf racing ECU is for a turbo which has a few extras in the system (crank angle sensor, knock sensor, O2 sensor...)- Squealy steering
