  2. have you tried an insurance broker

it's in the nissan used cars (they change every gt2 day so sometimes it isn't there but if you check often you should come accross it)

    GT2 has a 71 240z
  8. also clean up the area around the crack before welding (right back to the metal)
  9. I too have this crack, drill a hole at the end of the crack before welding to stop it spredding
  10. I usually don't like body kits on the 89+ 300's but that one looks good!

I could be wrong about a lot of this but just as an educated guess: Go for what ever is the cheapest over there, they both have about the same hp (150kw). The RB30 looks a little inefficient (only putting out 150kw for a 3L 7psi turbo), and with turbo engines improving the efficiency improves the hp significantly. With an intercooler and a better ecu it would probably put out about 180 - 190kw. The RB20 is DOHC and it would sound better than the RB30 being able to rev higher but it would start getting expensive if you wanted more than about 270hp out of it (they run about 10psi standard). But at the same time how much hp do you really want for a 1050kg car? Another idea is to put a RB20 or RB25 head on the RB30 if you wanted to. There is a formula I got out a turbo book that takes the efficiency, cubic inches and psi to give a predicted hp: hp=efficiency*cubic inches*(14.7+psi) The formula is not perfect as when you run more psi through a turbo it gets hotter and the efficiency reduces (the 14.7 is the air pressure), it also doesn't take into account the pressure drop through an intercooler. But just as a approximation the Garret style T03 turbos on these engines don't like being more than 15psi intercooled or 10 to 12 psi not intercooled. So by just playing with the wast gate you could get about 261hp out of the RB20 (@15psi) and about 255hp out of the RB30 (@10psi - any more than that you would probably want to invest in an intercooler or the engine will get too hot)
  12. I don't know how much you already know but take a look at: http://www.zhome.com/ under "Modifications For More HP" there are two good articles about this some other links that might help: http://www.usq.edu.au/users/degroot/240z/ http://www.zdriver.com/members/scottiegnz/scotties240zt.htm http://www.eng.fsu.edu/~jthagard/otherzs/otherzs1.html http://www.geocities.com/spized1969/
  13. Congrat's, it looks great, particularly the interior, is that original as well? something like that would be worth $15,000 to $20,000 where I come from ($6,700 - $8,900USD) well done.
  14. All Z's look good but the 2 seaters looks better than the 2+2's.
  15. It's not uncommon to see RB26DETT's with 1000 to 1300hp, It's one very cool / expensive engine.
  16. I will gather some info and let you know
  17. Hello everyone my name is Ivan, I'm from New Zealand and I am 21 years old. Not married, no kids my first Z was a '90 300zx 2 years ago (still got it) and just recently I picked up a '72 240z and have been restoring it for about 5 months now. I have bought a RB25DET from a '93 skyline and a R32 gearbox which I am currently fitting into the engine bay.

Holden is a Australian company owned by GM. They put out a few cars but their main seller is the Commodore, (Don't suppose you have heard of a Ford Falcon either?). The Commodore's come out with V8's V6's and L6's, one of the few common cars to have a V8 over this way. Somewhere in the 1980's (1986 or 87 I think) they bought a few engines and gearboxes from Nissan, one of them a 3000cc SOH Turbo (RB30ET) which puts out about 150KW.

I have just bought a RB25DET + gearbox for my 240Z, should be similar to an RB30ET / 260Z, the oil sump needs to be modified and the Z engine mounts line up but the hole distances are different. The RB30's gearbox will be on an angle towards the passenger side, but that shouldn't be hard to modify. The guy on this site has put an RB20DET in his 240Z, it should be similar. http://www.members.optushome.com.au/charleswilliams
  20. You could put a 1983 280zx turbo engine in it (L28ET or something). It just bolts on (like all the engines from 1970 to 1983). The engine is only about 180hp standard but with a few cheap modifications it could easily pump out 300hp to 375hp with heaps more torque than the L24, it would weight less than the V8 as well. I'm planning on doing this my self soon (looking at a 280zx this weekend). Here are a couple web sites that have more info: http://www.zhome.com/ http://www.zdriver.com/members/scottiegnz/scotties240zt.htm http://www.usq.edu.au/users/degroot/240z/ http://www.eng.fsu.edu/~jthagard/otherzs/otherzs1.html
  21. Does anyone see any problems with: - bolting a L28 block to a 240z head - boring out the L24 block and fitting L28 pistons to the L24 crank Thanks
