I have been trying to upload photos into my gallery of my trip to Classic Datsun Motorsports. :stupid: I am experiencing difficulties, when I click on the upload button after listing the photos from my hard drive it comes back that it can not find the web site. Any one else having problems, what am I doing wrong. I have uploaded photos before and have not had any problem.

Our trek is complete for now. We made it to Classic Datsun Motorsports in Vista, CA and dropped off the Z car. Les (Cannaday) said that the car was not as bad as I had initially indicated. He had made arrangements for me to bring back a roadster from LA to Indianapolis. He led me to the car, helped load it, and saw us on our way. Now mind you, Les did not have a dog in that hunt, so I have to thank him for the generosity of his time. I am in the process of getting the photos of the trip and Classic Datsun Motorsports shop and projects on my gallery. Hope you enjoy seeing all of the projects and historic Datsuns as much as I did. Historic cars such as Pete Brocks rally 510 and it’s original hauler. I got to see Ron Carter’s roadster. Nice car Ron!!! I will elaborate more on the trip as I get the pictures downloaded. Now, as for Les, what a treasure trove of knowledge, expertise, and dedication to Datsun preservation. Les has promised to keep me up to date with photos of the restoration of my Z, and I will follow it on this thread as "The ongoing story of the ‘Odyssey of a Z’." I will try to pick up the story of my "Z" tonight or tomorrow for those who are following the story.
  4. This car is less than 50 miles from me, I am thinking of trying to pick it up for parts. I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes here though.
  5. Bruce, I have had some made up black on silver as original with a thin clear over to protect from wear. Give me an address and I will send you a set. Jerry Purcell

I will be leaving for Classic Datsun Motorsports in about 2 hours. As always, all preparation is going down to the wire. I will try and document the trip with photos and post them upon our return. We should be getting back home in eastern Indiana Saturday (December 9th). And so begins the long awaited restoration chapter in the "Odyssey of a Z". I will miss checking in on this site for the next week or maybe Les will let me post a short note from his shop.
  7. There is the radio on Ebay, I believe the buy it now price is $279. Item #300054484238. I checked with the early Datsun parts dealear out of Canada. He said he could get a new AM FM original radio for $1428.00. He seems to be able to get some really rare NOS parts but they are not cheep. http://www.new-datsun-parts.com

I will be loading the car and packing the parts in my truck tomorrow. It’s been a long time coming. Excited but not looking forward to the 2200 mile tow each way. One of my brother firefighters, which will be going with me, brightened my day today. He had tour shirts printed complete with cities and dates for the trip. Labeled “MORE MONEY THAN SENSE TOUR ‘06”, I will try to get a picture on before I leave Sunday. He even had one printed for Les Cannaday. I will post pictures of the trip when I get back. I have been bragging about all of my NOS parts for the project but while packing realized what I didn’t have, so this past two weeks I picked up a number of items. Items such as new head lamp assemblies, rear bumper rubber trim, console, fuse panel door for console, gas cap etc… All of the sources were from fellow members of this site. I thank you my wife doesn’t. I will pick up the odyssey story in 1976 when I return; it was the summer that I expanded my SCCA experience and bought HLS30-00029.
  9. Just completed purchase of a center console and the console panel (fuse cover door). Feel lucky to get the parts for my project, thanks for the link. Jerry Purcell
  10. Anyone in the Pasadena area willing to check this out for me? Jerry
  11. I believe that if we want to have the parts we need for our projects we have to realize the limited market for such parts. That is going to equate to very expensive NOS or GOOD reproduction parts. The key being good reproductions hopefully. At first the price shocked me but after thinking of what I have spent trying to restore a pair it is within reason. But once again that is if they are quality parts. I would guess with Norms reputation he will not offer them if they are not up to standards.
  12. Dan, Norm said he would have them in January 07. Price is $220 pair + ship prepaid. Jerry
  13. Thanks again for the input. It seems that I should continue to worry about my own needs and use the bezels I have restored while looking for a NOS set for my car. If nothing else has come of this thread I hope that those who were looking for a reasonable plastic re-chrome shop will find it in the shared link to American Classic Restoration. Keep in mind that the quality of the re-chrome is directly related to the condition of the plastic part.
  14. Thanks for the insight into this subject. My line of thinking is that suggested by the owner of American Classic Restoration. He has had luck with this when dealing with American manufacturing. I am an original Z owner and lover but have not spent my time over the years dealing with the ins and outs of such things. Just a loving owner. That’s why I love this site, members have either done the research or have intimate knowledge of the workings of such things allowing them to get answers. Carl is one such person and I hope he can offer some ideas on this subject. In my line of work if you don’t try people die. So I am always open to knowledgeable suggestions and believe that there is no stupid question.
  15. Below is a link to the company where I have been having some plastic parts re-chromed. There are two different processes, Bob at American Classic Restoration will explain the process they use and the limitations. Do remember the quality of the job is directly related to the condition of the plastic part you send. Let Bob know that I referred you, then he can look up some of the parts he has done and estimated for me. That will help him give you a price without seeing your part. They can fully restore the part or just chrome it. They have on file an estimate for restoring the radio/heater bezel for 70 – 72 Z cars as well as 73+, the dash round side vents and the center vent as well as the tail light bezels. Good Luck Reference him to: Jerry Purcell Richmond, Indiana JMP Z Restoration http://www.american-classic.com/begin.html
  16. Welcome from to he club, enjoy the kindred spirits!
  17. I have sent Norm an email, we will see what he has to say.
  18. I have a company doing a re-chrome for me on 3 sets as we speak. I would rather have a set of NOS if possible. The company is located out east and charges $25.00 per bezel. It is hard to come up with good lefts for re-chrome. I have friends with ties to injection molding if we could find who made the originals. The original molds would be nice to have. Maybe Carl has some idea on that.
  19. I checked past threads and could not find one specific to my question. Does anyone make or currently sale NOS or reproduction chrome bezels for the tail lights for the 70 – 73 240Z? If not, does anyone know who the original manufacturer was?
  20. I have one out of a 73 about 70K miles R180. Shipping would be a problem. I am getting ready to take my car to Les Cannaday in Vista, CA. could take it to Vista. JLP
  21. Let me know if anything changes, I will hold onto it. JLP
