Undercoating ???
My 72 orange Z was covered in Ziebart all over the engine compartment and cowl. I have the bill from Ziebart for doing the "works"!! They have little black plugs over the holes they drill into the body which say Ziebart, but there are other companies out there who did the same type of body penetration. It was a mess and remember this stuff gets on everything, fuel lines, brake lines, clips, the tiny 8mm nuts, wiring, etc. This Z had rot hidden under the ziebart from age where the rust proofing dried out and let moisure in. The rockers were rusty and so were the quarters. Good news was the bottom of the doors and inside the hood and sinside the hatch and under the rear body panels were penetrated and saved. You can see more photos of what the ziebart mess left us on my website, the mess worked and failed at the same time. http://www.eurasianperformance.com/72z.html

Barret Jackson BS
Remeber when Brock Yates had to sue everyone in sight to keep "his thing", the origianl Cannonball from becoming the freak show it became? I met him once back then when I worked for Oscar Kovaleski, I had a silver 72 Z my brother had bought new, hls30-48103. It was lowered and all racerized (RIP). He said with this nice Z car you should run it in the Cannonball with Oscars kid, Bobby. I didn't but Bob and Al Sibio would have won that year in a Camaro Z28 if Bob hadn't got freaked out over a roadblock. Anyway, not everything at these auctions are as nice as these guys think or say, I have been there and do this collector car business everyday. The 2+2 Italians are slowly going up because the 2 seaters get traded with few worrying if the timing breaks up at 6500 rpm anymore. They worry about paint chips. I say let em, take your Z car out and have some fun, when they want em, we will have them all and they won't.

Clear Hatch Glass
The one that was on #390 Z also had the Datsun logos on the glass. I have been deeply involved with these cars for 30 years, it was the first one I saw thats why I checked the harness and switches.

Anybody near Bethel Park, PA?
Greg, I might want to sell my one yellow 72,its pretty solid, needs paint and assembly, it is apart and in mostly bare metal/primer, I have a 71 E31 engine in it with a header. The engine runs great, the shell was factory orange, no old front accidents but some light passenger side tail light nasty work. The color is 03 viper yellow. The engine compartment is all painted, and i have it on a back burner while I finish my orange 72 and my E Type. I have a chance to buy a 1966 400GT Lambo and might have to cut a couple of my Z's loose. Have everything to finish it, let me know if you can use it. There is a link to it here http://www.eurasianperformance.com/inventory.html Just scroll to Z projects part of my page. Rick

Electric fuel pump on 72Z w/carb problems
Thanks Guys, I looked for an RX7 pump but had no luck used. It had good flow from the lines, i had cleaned them months ago, but you could see the clear filter empty when it would die out. I am going to relocate the pump back by the tank, not due to noise from it though, just to keep it in the "original" location and as a "pusher". I have to work on an appropriate "kill" safety besides the key and switch on console. Any explanation why this car needed it is up for discussion now that it runs the way it should so any future post readers can learn from this frustrating headache.

Electric fuel pump on 72Z w/carb problems
Heres what I did, I took a used electric fuel pump and oe mount from a 73z we had in stock and on the shelf forever. Cleaned it and checked that it worked, I installed it in the engine compartment just before the manual pump, this has a factory bowl type filter on it too from Datsun. I hooked it up to the ignition side with the direct kill on/off switch which the car had in it by the PO. Car ran fine and no dead response. I don't see why it needed to be up under the tank as Datsun did years ago on the 73's, but it cured the problem. Had to readjust the rear float one more time so it wouldn't flow out and drip on the manifold! I kept the manual pump and hi-po filter before that one for insurance, problem now is when I hit second gear it doesn't engage seems to hang up and spin the clutch too long, but the clutch is new. Have to work on it and see. Thanks for the advise, Rick

Electric fuel pump on 72Z w/carb problems
Hi Guys, we have a weird problem here, we have a 72 240z in that has a lot of old school modifications, Racer Brown cam, stock exhaust manifold, huge exhaust pipe and Corvair muffler, dual stock appearing su's. Timing and distributor seem ok. We have just finished the full body resto, and are sorting out the mechanicals and have run into this. Car sat for years..34k right original one owner miles, but hes dead. Car had a AC brand electric fuel pump mounted by the gas tank, it was hooked up to a switch on console, stock manual fuel pump on block. We took it off when we replaced the fuel filler tube and changed the gas tank which was kinda rusty on the small metal lines. We have cleaned the carbs, ran corect weight trans fluid and mystery oil mix in them. We did by-pass the non stock AC electric fuel pump, which I have never seen as necessary on SU carb 240z's. Anyway, no matter what we do the car seems to run out of power, and everytime we open the float bowls or max out the float (bend the tab) adjustments, we see little gas in the float bowls. We changed the jet that lets gas into the bowls mounted on the bowl tops, cleaned the screens by the intake lines, replaced fuel filter, blew air back to tank, we even changed the manual pump with another. Today, we changed the carbs to another set of su;s. Still no luck, it seems to run out of gas when you jump on the cars throttle, by time its in second gear its the dreaded "dying" sound. Has anyone run ito this before? I just don't see why this car should have had a manual pump on it, but all signs say it needs more fuel pressure. Any thoughts?

72 Yellow Z
This is what the 72 now looks like as we begin the body work on the rest of the body. This car we found hiding in Patty Hearsts gargae in poconos several years ago. It was very solid and has 43k miles on it.

in the beginning...
This is what the 72 z looked like when I bought it. It was a one owner car with just 34k miles, Racer Brown cam, documented work was from Bob Sharp, this one is lowered, and the wheels are Chromadora real magnesium. More photos on http://www.eurasianperformance.com/72z.html

#390 For Sale! Please Save From the Shredder!!
Just to set the record straight on this car, I did sell # 390 Z car to Chuck. I am a dealer in classics and exotics, but started out in Z cars when they were not rusty. I have owned several hundred of them. Most of my clients prefer to remain "annonomous" when they buy a rare car. Chuck picked the Z through a third party, I never met him nor heard any more about the car from him. Out of respect for his privacy I informed ALL ebay Bidders, real and imagined the car was shredded. Since Chuck has decided to be public about it, I guess it is ok to say i am the seller and yes it was sold. I appreciate the kind comments from the purchaser of my one blue 73, please feel free to check out my extensive Z collection and huge Z parts inventory. You are welcome to stop in and see the rest of my private collection if you are in Scranton area. I just finished up the restoration on my one 72. Check it out at http://www.eurasianperformance.com/72z.html
