How long have you had your Z?
I got mine in July 2004. It was the first S30 i had ever seen before. Some 8 or so years earlier I had a 3 minute ride in my dad's friend's 280ZX and the memory of how cool it felt stuck. When I wanted to get my own car I looked for a 280ZX and couldn't find one anywhere. I stumbled across my 77 that summer and thought taking the older car would be a compromise I could deal with. Boy am I glad I got the Z insted of the ZX. I remember walking up to it and thinking, "Holy cow! This car is so tiny!" Most exciting thing ever when i took my first ride in it.

Easiest way to get the driveshaft and halfshafts off the diff
Thanks all for the input. Got the new one in and the old one out. I posted a few pics so you can see what I did to the old one. That little metal shaft thingy is busted. Idk what its called or what all else is broken, but it doesn't turn very smooth at all.

Easiest way to get the driveshaft and halfshafts off the diff
Hey guys, I just have a quick question. What is the easiest way to diconnect the halfshafts and driveshaft so I can replace my diff unit? What are the best tools to use? If there is a way to cheat so i can dimantle as little as possible, that would be great. Im just swapping my existing differential with a new one.

What is the most attractive part of your Z
Driver, Passenger, and engine. The rest of the car pretty much looks like crap.

Installing the differential
I got my new one in today and was gonna change the oil in it before I put it in the car. The Haynes manual only talks about the R-180 and says 1 litre. Does anyone know how much to put in the R200? I seem to recall hearing it holds about 1.3, but I don't recall for sure. I wouldn't want to over/underfill.

Installing the differential
Autozone sells something called a "differential carrier bushing" would that be the diff mount you're talking about or is that something totally different?

Installing the differential
I finally got my new diff ordered and I should be able to put it in next week. My question is this. Is there anything else under there that I am going to need to replace when I put this one in? Its just a stock replacement for me existing one, but is there anything that will require being replaced during this switch? I ask cuz I would like to get all this done in an afternoon if possible without having to make runs to the auto parts store/order things. I didn't find anything about this on here and the Haynes manual didn't say anything either.

Junkyard finds
Thats what I hate about living in KS. No Z's to be found anywhere. The only S30 i found was a 75 that was wrecked pretty badly. Im almost sure they've crushed it by now.

Is there a name for this??
This panel here below the dash on the passenger side. My brother cracked mine in half while pulling his backpack out from under it and now owes me a new one. I need to know what its called so I can look for a new or used one to replace it. The parts car i've been getting stuff off of no longer has this thing.

Differential dead??!!
Would that require me taking it all the way out? The oil inside was super nasty, so i figure changing the oil is in store no matter what. If I can get the cover off without removing the thing, that would be ideal, seeing as I have no idea what im doing when it comes to working on the drivetrain.
