Anybody tried SEM white - if so, which one?

Its almost time to do my interior on my white 72 Z. After sitting outside in the desert for 10 years there wasn't much left of the interior. Its interior was red originally, but I have all the interior plastic parts in black from my two parts cars. I still haven't bought the vinyl and headliner yet. I'm considering going with white. Has anybody ever painted the black interior panels white? In Phoenix it gets sooooo hot with a black interior. I need carpet too - I know datsun had any color carpet you want as long as its black. Does any company make a repro in any other color? thanx in advance guys...

I used a putty knife and heat gun. Its a pain to get off, but I found some rust underneath that I never would have found it I hadn't taken it off.
  4. Looks like an oosik to me... I used to live in Alaska and saw them in gift shops. The "male" part of a walrus....
  5. Guess I'm spoiled here in Arizona... bought 2 240 Z project cars (70 and 72) that had been sitting 10+ years and no rust to speak of... 72 for $700 and 70 for $400. You are a braver man than I.
  6. About 2 mos ago, I bought a 240Z HLS30-03486 build date 4/70 that had been sitting in an outdoor storage yard for 10 years. The fact that this is Phoenix AZ kept the rust away for the most part. The window being down did not help the interior any though. Anyway, on the title, the model year is listed as 1971, and the date first registered is 12/71. Since these cars were hard to get at the time - even backordered - its a mystery to me what the details of this car's early life are......

I would guess mine weighed about 450 lbs totally stripped. I could lift the back by myself so a buddy could put a dolly underneath no prob (72 240).
  8. Hello John - I'm in phoenix. If you want, I'll take a look at it for you. Does the guy live in Paradise Valley- a white 71? If so, I have already seen it. Let me know...

TexasZ - nope this shell is no roller. Everything that can be removed has been removed. I've even half stripped off the paint and the tar mats on the floorpans and hatch area.

Sombody please take my shell! I'm gonna see if I can get a buddy with a sawz-all to help me cut it up this weekend otherwise..... got the matching block and dataplates to go with to the lucky Z person who hauls it off for me...

rusty parts car... probably not orig engine. would go for $400-500 here in AZ tops if the dash was OK. Less if not.

re: shell from previous post - I also have the matching numbers shortblock if you want it. I could find the dataplates in my parts if you want.

I have one I'll give away - 72 shell only. Pass qtr panel has had bad bondo work - cleaned off now. Rust issue on the deck lid area. small rust hole in floor pan drivers side (quarter sized). Framerail is crunched from underneath hence that rust hole in floorpan. No other rust. Desert car. I'm moving 7/7. I'd like to have it go to sombody who can use it otherwise it will probably get crushed. BTW - I do have clear AZ title.
  14. I feel sorry for you rust-belt guys.....
  15. I have no tools to cut it apart - first one who hauls it off gets it FREE.

The title shows VIN HLS3003486, Year 1971, mo/yr first registered as 12/1971 and last mileage as 48458. Factory list price was 3596. It was last registered in 1995. Strange.

I got the car from a guy who had it in a storage lot (desert) for 10 years. Other than 1 rust spot pass side dogleg the body is good. Interior is shot. Car is complete except for air cleaner and fusebox cover/ashtray piece. Not bad for $400. I have a car cover over it till I'm done with my 72.

I finally got the title for my Series I HLS30-03486 Z car. The build date is 4/70 but the title has it as a 71. It was first registered in 71 - could that be why? What determines the title year? Maybe its an Arizona thing. thanks in advance....
  20. I'd hold out for a 72 or 70 unless its a killer deal, but I'm in Phoenix AZ where Zs are cheap and generally good rust-wise. If I was in the northeast or northwest I'd probably have a different opinion.
  21. Had to stop work on my 72 desert survivor for a while - bought a house. Bought it for $700 no major dents no rust had been sitting for don't know how many years. All original (except interior which I ripped out) with dealer installed AC - even all the smog stuff on it. Replaced all hoses, belts, battery, all fluids, alternator, radiator, points, condensers, cap & rotor. Adjusted the valves and carbs and it runs pretty good. Next is windshield, headliner and interior and body work on the "beer can" roof. I've never driven it! AAAAGGGGHHH. Also just picked up a 4/70 car... #3486 in about the same condition (400 bucks - sitting in a storage yard for 10 years!). Just put a car cover on it and forcing myself to finish the 72 before starting on that one...

Has anybody done this? Is this frowned upon in a stock class show car? I have an extra 72 dash I'd like to have restored instead of having to take out the one out of my car while waiting for it to come back - could be a long time. How would you do it? Im assuming carefully drill out the rivets then use a rivetting tool? Never riveted so if sombody has I'd be interested in how it's done. Also - JustDashes or DashRestorations - whose work is closer to factory original? I want to find out on my 72 before having it done on my 70. thanks in advance guys...

I would be interested in a set.
  24. I just bought this diff on Ebay minus the halfshafts for $200. It has the smooth cover. Will it bolt right up to my 72 240? Anybody know what halfshafts I'll need? I've heard horror stories but have seen conflicting info. thanks in advance...
