I am with you Gav - I was thinking RBxxDE or RBxxDET sometime ago but I have just purchased an import L28 F54/N42 combo again for the same reasons mounts are easy etc and the $$ I would spend on RB conversion will go a long way into getting more HP from the L28. This is just a personal opinion. I even have heard of a 3.1 L28TT pulling close to 1000hp (In a drag car in Japan - and I would assume not very reliable ie need to pulled and checked after each meeting....$$$) Cheers Mike

I have heard that the R200 LSD from a 300ZX can be fitted into the Nissan Xterra R200a front diff. So you could assume that these new LSD units for the R200a could fit one of the R200 that we use. Worth more investigation? http://www.purenissan.com/r200_front_lsd.htm
  9. I see no-one has answered this one for you. I don't have ZG flares but I do have custom steel flares at are 2 1/2 inch wider than stock. I purchased 15x8 with a -12 offset = almost 4" BS. My car is still in bits so I can't show you a photo of what they look like on the car (don't know myself). I purchased the rims based on measurement and calculations. Lots say 15x7 0 offset fit stock. So I did the following calcs. 260z alloy rim that were standard with my Z are 5.5 with +18 Offset = 4" BS Rim width - bead 2 bead offset BS FS 7 8 0 4 4 5.5 6.5 +18 4 2.5 8 9 -12 4 5 = 2.5 wider than standard rim with standard fender and close to 1" sticking outside the standard fender if 7" 0 offset will clear. Hope this is of helps Mike

Don't know about the 280z as here in NZ we only have 240z, 260z then the zx range (there are a few 280z LHD imported...don't know why when we have RHD Z here already) Here is what I know of the differences. 240Z there are a few difference between the years. The early 240z had different cabs (3 vs 4 screws or the other way round can't recall), front guards (they look the same but they aren't the early one don't have the lip that runs round under the inspection flaps), inspection flaps have a different locking systems in the very early Zeds (used a plastic clip the later cars use a metal spring steel clip if I recall correctly), rocker cover, seats (only reclined via turn knob and only about 10 degrees later seats would reline more), drive shaft, gearbox (ie A box and F.Y.I all Z in NZ were 5 spd from the start. I once owned HS30-00016 now is OZ and these were the differences with this 240z compared to 71-73), mustache bar was different on the early 240z also. I also believe that early Z had fibre-glass head light buckets and the later cars had steel (like my 77 260Z). Enough about that I am sure there in more info on this site if you do a search. I do know that the suspension sizing and height did change in the 260z range here in NZ (this might be the difference between the 260z and 280z in North America). My 77 260Z had (before lowering etc) taller rears than a say 73 240Z also the diameter of the strut was larger. Also my 77 strut tower is very different to 240Z and early 260Z. The later cars had a stronger rear strut tower as these were found to be a weak point under extreme race conditions (I read this somewhere in an old publication so please correct me if I am incorrect). The steel support arms that run from the rear tower to the floor section in the early Zeds had holes in them, other late model Z I have seen (like mine) don't this is a solid piece. Also the strut tower has a much thicker plate on top when compared to earlier Z ie 240/260 pre 75. The chassis rails on the later cars is also thicker and go further towards the rear of the car. I am no expert on this I am only going by the Zed I have compared to the Zeds I have owned (HS30-00016 1970, 1973 240Z and my first Zed and the only one I have today 1977 260Z 2 seater) I am sure if I went through other books etc that I have stored (along with all of the Zed.....) I could come up with more. But I am sure that are more knowledgeable people who can give you more details.

I'm with abas. Only if I had no mortgage, Zed on the road, a passive income then I might jump the fence and stop working in IT, until then my green thumb is still working on finding that elusive money tree :stupid:
  12. Guys, I have the Nismo FIA calipers with 300zx rotors - I believe these caliper units might have been from a Price Gloria? Does any one know? You can still purchase these units from Nissan Motorsport part # 41000-E7201 and 41010-E7201. There were originally 2 FIA setup available vented and non vented. The non vented used standard rotors and the caliper listed above. The vented units used a special rotor to be used with 240Z hubs (used to cost $350 USD each rotor I know because I did price these up at one point. Spec were 271mm x 20mm. 300zx rotors are 274mm x 22mm so I like many are using these with a spacer). The vented calipers were the same solid rotors but with a small spacer between each half (I again know this as I have had one of each set). I did purchase a number of seal kits and new pistons from Nissan Motorsport some years ago (I know the pistons are still available not sure about the seal kits). So does anyone know if these are the same units as the Toyota Calipers? It is very unlike a Japanese car manufacture to have a single custom calliper for one application – they usually reuse the same part on a different model/make. Can't post photo of the units as they in the roof of my parents house (along with most of my Z....long story involves living in a different country for a few years yada yada)
