I thought same thing Will I think it's also an E-Type I have all 3 on DVD so if someone can point out exactly where I'll have a look . I like the Jeans with the crashed Datto I want a set . Funny how so many Australian's have a stigma against the old Datto's???? Funnier still is the fuss they kicked up at Bathurst when the Skyline GTR's won. Too many Meat heads who like v8's.

  17. Not sure if these answer your question I will try take a photo of the british ones not on this car or any car at the moment for you later.
  18. At the moment I think a picture is a 1000 words as im in a hurry and will disect what you just wrote later bruce. Here is a shot of my engine don't know if that help much. I had a set of British SU carbs on one of my z's I will take a photo of them to show you I don't know much about em' just they were not as good for tuning and seemed to not stay in good tune.
  19. Great Advice Lance, infact the very words i live by if I can't afford it don't buy it till I can. No loans . Not jumping on Lance's bandwagon just think he has good advice but i also don't know your financial situation either so.... Anyway I guess 1 reason I like the Z so much is I can afford it. Well sorta and if I can't I just don't drive it for a while. :cheeky:
  20. I was under the impression that the eariler ones were 3 screw and later ones were 4 screw? Also ClutchDust if your carbs were replaced by the British SU's then they are a slightly different carb as Bruce stated and from what I've read from the Ztherapy website they were not as good quality. Personally I'd love to order a set of SU's from Ztherapy but after converting to AUD$ it's not worthwhile I'm better off buying the video only and say the SM needles then trying to build my own Ztherapy set in Australia.
  21. I would not use synthetic oil as it will act as a detergent as Abas said and will bring all the muck from the block that has been baked on over the last 20 odd years and could clog up the oil ways. The oil going black will most likely be that the inside of the engine is dirty from the years and causing it to go black again. I wouldn't worry about it too much it's quite normal for an old engine to do this even changing the oil filter and flushing out the oil will probably not eliminate this. You can remove the sump and get every remainder of oil out as this helps to dilute the new oil and make it go black quicker. BUt honestly it's not worth it. Wait till she needs a rebuild and then go on Synthetic from there the inside of it will stay cleaner then. :cheeky:

  23. Just as a side note don't throw it out, 1 thing I've learnt never throw anything away just incase. It could turn out not to be the cause but from what Brett is saying 40 degree days could also not help. Although I've had my Z run fine on hot 40 degree days in summer I remember coming back from Rosebud down here and it was something like 45 degree's and going along the highway the wind was so hot with the windows down and all.

It's a 76 Degree cam. What happened was my E88 has N42 valves, fair amount of porting a mild cam(not sure exact degree), it's been slapped onto a F54 block giving a fair amount of compression my guess is around 10:1. It's a bit smokey I believe valve stem seals as it's a puff after sitting at the lights or being stopped. I was gonna pull the head and rebuild it then install larger cam but I found a recently rebuild e88 with same specs just the bigger cam and it was cheaper than installing a new camshaft. So that's what i'm going with, I will be keepign the current e88 for now and if the new e88 isn't as great as I thought I'll probably sell it with the n42 block it's on and put that money into my current e88 but im not sure yet. I also have a P90 i've been saving for turbo charging but may or may not go with that if things don't work out. Early E88's are almost identical to the E31's in Australia anyway. I think the E88 had slightly bigger valves to start with and the compression was a little lower on the E88 but pretty much identical.
