I copied and pasted this from Pontiac's web site.... The new GTO will produce 350 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 365 ft.-lb. of torque at 4000 rpm - power ratings that are the result of contemporary engineering, yet true to the GTO heritage. In addition, the GTO is expected to achieve impressive performance times of 0 to 60 MPH in less than 5.5 seconds and a 1/4 mile run in under 14 seconds. 5.7-liter Gen III LS1 V8 :beard:

Don't know if you guys down there are aware of it, but the Holden Monaro is being imported to the the US as a Pontiac GTO for 2004. I've looked at the spec sheet; nice car.

I've never seen these cars before. I don't think they were exported to the US. The way you guys are going on they must be pretty special. I have to admit that they look interesting. Did they evolve into Skylines (not imported to US either)? Are they faster/better handling than Z-Cars? Where can I learn more? What about the Australian & NZ domestic market? Did Australia and or NZ go through a muscle car era as did the US in the 60's early 70's? Did the domestic manufactures build small body cars with big V8's like our Camaro, Mustang, Corvette, Road Runner,... Were any cool US cars exported to Australia & NZ? :alien:
  5. Thanks, I bought some Marvel Mystery oil as suggested above. It was cheaper than ATF and I don't have any cars with automatics to use up the balance from filling the carbs. :alien: :alien:
  6. I've finished cleaning my carbs and need to install them. For filling the oil reservoir, I guess 20W oil is what you use? Is there some kind of oil you recommend that's good and maybe has a handy way of putting it in (squirt tip, etc...)? Also, does the flow guide valve effect the engine runs or is it just for emissions control? I noticed that the hose that goes from it to my air cleaner was cracked. I wonder if that was contributing to my car running badly. :classic: :classic:
  7. I watched a show on Speedvision last night about a ~1957 speed records set by a MG at the Bonneville Salt Flats. At the end of the show the guy was talking about all the cool MGs, Triumphs,... of the area. Then he mentioned that the introduction of the 240Z in 1970, and all its attributes (power, quality, styling, etc) marked the end of the British sports car era. I thought that was pretty cool.

I have no clue what make of car that is. I just hope none of my cars show up on that web site.
  9. I pulled the carbs off my '70 Z and am having trouble getting the screws loose on the suction chamber. Do you have any good tips and tricks for getting them off?

My 240Z has the stock hubcaps. I think they look cool and want to keep them on the car, at least for now. Besides, I really don't have the cash for custom wheels. However, I heard the problem with them is they fall off readily. Is this so? And is there a way from avoiding this from happening? :alien: :alien: :alien: :alien:

I'm going through the same thing myself. I just got my Z started after the previous owner (my dad) had it in storage for several long years. It runs rough with lots of black smoke. A guy from the local Z club told me to take the carbs off and clean and adjust them. Anyway, from what I've read and been told, you need a flow meter to balance the two carbs. They cost about $30. I also purchased a video from Ztherapy (they're on line) that goes through how to adjust the carbs. The video also shows many other maintanace tasks. You may want to check it out. The video has a "home grown" feel but the price is right; about $15.

Snow, huh. I'm sure the schools are shuting down and the freeways will be a mess. I too am from the mighty Northwest, Portland to be exact. But now live in the desert of New Mexico. I didn't really mind the snow up there. It's the black ice that scared me! Hope you make it home safe. An idiot rear ended my VW Beetle in a snowstorm up there once.:stupid:

I keep seeing pictures of Z cars on this site with elongated noses and the radiator under the front bumper. Sometimes they have rear view mirrors mounted on the fenders and sometime they don't. What kind of Z cars are these? They look pretty cool but I've never actually seen one in person. Were they sold in the USA?

Thanks for all the information! I clicked on the link that mwz provided. There's good information there! Because of the VIN and that the fresh air vents are on the deck lid, my car is a 1970/Series One.

It's not obvious to me. There are cars on the lot today being sold as 2004's that were built in 2003. I guess my question could have been when was the model year cutoff...July, Aug., Sept,.....? I know that the VIN can give information such as transmission type, color, interior, options, etc. I thought maybe the code on this car contained that information too.

I recently got a 240Z that has been in storage since the early 90's. I'm working on getting it back on the road. I'm very happy and it's a nice car. The old owner claimed the car is a 1970 1/2 model year. Could this be true? What year is it? The manufacture date is 7/70. The VIN is HLS30-07736 Is there anything that explains how to read the VIN? Thanks

  21. Thanks everyone for the great advice!
  22. I have a '71 240Z that I've recently aquired. I'm new to these cars and are full of goofy questions: 1) The air pump belt is missing. If the air pump is not running will that effect how the car runs? 2) What octane rating should the gas be? 3) What brand of motor oil and filter should I use or does it matter? 4) In my repair manual it shows a flow meter for setting the carbs. Who sells flow meters? In general, what are some good parts companies, catalogs, web sites, ...? Thanks

  25. Hello, I have a '71 240Z. The car sat several years in a my father's garage. I started it up and it runs fine except gas filled up the bottom of the air cleaner while it was running. What causes this? Should I take the carbs off and rebuild them? Or just use carb cleaner or something? What's a good source for a rebuild kit if I need to do that? I'm new to z-cars and have limited experience in mechanics; but I've done breaks, tune-ups, etc... Thanks!
