Be really carefull about the floor pan of the car some cars have rusted there so bad that holes will form. Places you might look at are the floor, lower parts of the fenders, rear hatchback and in the engine bay. Listen for any knocking noises on a test drive. About the miles on the car, the Datsun's odometer resets after 99,999 miles. Since it doesn't have a spot for 100,000 it may have gone over once maybe even twice. But scince he is your friend then you should trust him on that. I've been through a lot looking for a Z after my first was trashed in March. I found one where it looked like a good deal, but when I had a mechanic who knew a lot about z's looked at it he tolded me that there were more then 100,000 mile+ added to the car that the seller didn't mention. Luckily I didn't buy because of that so be careful. Ask about maintance one the car, many cars can be neglected and hoses might be old and gauges might not work right so make sure to ask. Sounds like a good buy. Good luck

wish to rebuild 240z!
CableSrv As far as smogging it should be exempted. Cheack your local DMV, but here in california if it is older then 1973 it is exempted and egine swaping would not require smogging nor will it change classifications as far as I know. When you said you were going to boost it, do you mean turbo or supercharging. If your turbo charging, you may want to find a L28zxt engine which is already turbo charged. I don't know if or haven't heard of people boring the L28 to 3.1L so if you do that please let me know how it goes because it sounds possible.

What do you think of the new 350 z?
Here an article that I have discovered online according to z-networks.net "The Nissan Z Concept promises to inspire a production Z that delivers superior performance and passionate styling, all at an attainable price. Nissan design studios in Japan, the U.S. and Europe helped develop its look. Z's traditional long wheelbase and wide stance served as a starting point. A distinct spine, fluid curves and high tech accents round out Z's new look beautifully. A state-of-the art, driver-oriented interior compliments the exterior. An with 260-plus hp and a 6-speed manual transmission, the new Z remains true to its performance heritage - all for under $30,000." Performance Specifications Engine VQ-SERIES V6 (Pathfinder Engine) Horsepower (SAE) 260 BHP 0-60 MPH <6.0 SEC. More digging and searching gave me more information on the new Z. Believed to be called the 350Z or 350ZX. Supposedly having a 58/42 weight distribution and believe to make it from 0-60 MPH in the low 5's (Believe to be 5.2 - 5.6 secs). "The details on the Production 350Z as specified by Nissan. (yes, this is official)" Overall Length (mm) 4310 or 169.814 in Overall width (mm) 1815 (or 71.511 in) Overall height (mm) 1310 (or 51.614 in) Seating capactity 2 Wheelbase (mm) 2650 (or 104.41 in) Track front/rear (mm) 1535/1535 (or 60.479/60.479 in) Drive configuration FR Engine VQ35DE Transmission 6MT Suspension Multi link/Multi link Tire front/rear 225/45 R18 91W 245/45 R18 96W Aside from that info, as of yet, no offical weight has been annouced, but it is said to be lighter than the 300ZX, at uner 1,400 Kg or 3,080 pounds. Unoffical release date is said to be Oct. 24 of next year or mid 2002, but uncertain at the time.If I left anything out, I'm sorry don't flame me if some info is wrong I looked a numerious sites over the past few days and most site have different info on display. hopes this info helps any of you out there. -Jesse

What do you think of the new 350 z?
I agree with your statement aaronraad "Some people are just so superficial. Its not all about looks." I being one of those peple. Take for instence the 2002 Impreza WRX. It didn't look great to me at first, but it had the power that most people wanted out of an affordable car. In time I got over the looks after I test drove it. When I stepped into the car I didn't care what it looked like, I just loved how it feels when I drove it. Know call me stupid , but I can get over the looks after I see one in person and test drive one in the near future. Given that the rear could be aerodinamically designed that way, but pictures like mike said "I like it. But, yes, a picture can be deceptive." And it is only my opinion from this picture and can change, but the looks wouldn't stop me from buying one. And yes I do believe that Nissan might have a good candidate for a great affordable sports car. And do hope they get it right this time around.

260Z project car & 240 parts
:DGreat to hear that you finally sold it to your first buyer. Don't need the tires, but just to let you know, I would have done the same thing because he lived closer and you wouldn't have to ship it accross the country.

What do you think of the new 350 z?
Looks can be deceiving, but I would have to make a dission of the look when I get to see one up close. Some pictures don't do justice to things. From this pic I don't like the round back end and tail light, but I could be wrong(just my two cents).

260Z project car & 240 parts
madmike that's great, take your time, but I would like to see pics. Please send them to:jshiin@hotmail.com or if that doesn't work try jshiin@home.com I will be moving to Tracy, CA 94568, about an hour east of San Fransisco. That would be great to bolt those parts up but lets see how much it will come out to and what your willing to let it go for with shipping included. And let me know where the rust is, if any, and other things that are wrong the car that you know of so I don't get shocked by what I find. Thanks a bunch! (Hoping to bye!) Shiin P.S. BTW My name is Jesse.

'73 240Z that I probably will have to sell
Dang, that suck about your problem well anyways, about your rough estimate on the cost of selling. How much have you invested? That's a lot of money you put into it. There was one guy selling a Z in a classified for 19,500 in california his car wasn't done as good as your, but he also failed to get some rust off the frame. If it was almost gone with a few more things to do you could problably sell it for just as much, but I don't know if anyone would buy it. People do look for Z to fix up, but there are a few that are looking for a Z that needs a few more things before it becomes complete. Anyways, you should get a few more estimates on the car before you take my word for it because this is just my two cents.

New member needs help w/260 V8 swap
If you want to see the a high performance Z forum go to http://hybridz.org/main.htm find the forums section. These guys are every knowlegde able about Z's and engine swaps. These guys a cool and seriously hardcore. If you get a chance check out some of there pics of their rides. Almost any engine has been tried and tested(not really, but there are a lot of divers guys there. I found the answer of a 7mgte (87-93 supra turbo) engine swap. So give them a look and for the vids of darius go to: http://taner.equinix.com/darius/ the vids take really long to load and are cool, but some people can't wait that long of a video so it is worth a shot is you have a lot of time to kill.

New member needs help w/260 V8 swap
Just adding my two cents. Everyone seems to be going with a small block chevy engine. I've heard a hopped up mopar engine works wonders. But what do I know. A california man named darius has a 240Z with roughly 500-600, so I've heard and they say he has no troblems with the torque of the engine. Will good luck, and remeber you don't have to take my word for it. On another note, if you plan to good all out and want it to make it a ultra-high performace car I found a forum that you may be interested in. They are very helpful with a lot of techie information like how and what you need to mod the car out. Let me know if your interested. I could give you the web site.

auto. to manual conversion help
As far as I know, you don't need any other parts for the transmission swap, but I am not too sure. I had a 72' 240z with a 5 speed and all I switched was the transmission. I worked fine, but the gear ratio might be off. Other than that I think a new transmission is all you need. But I had a friend who replaced the transmission, driveshaft, and rear differential. It was a 73 240z and it felt the same too me. Sorry if I couldn't help you. Hopefully some else can tell you what they have done. Good Luck on your project Z!

Engine swaping?
I had a Z before it was totaled and am still looking for anohter 1970 to 1973 240z. I wanted to know before I go ahead a buy another Z about swaping the engine out of it. I was wondering if an EFI engine would work in it, I don't want a small block v8 or a v6 in it. I want to go with 4 cyclinder, but one with a good amount of power. If I did, what thing would i have to do to it? I know i need something that could control the electronics without fully wiring up for the car, but I was also wondering if I used the engine out of a 1991-1995 MR2 turbo, how would I be able to get the transmission on the car to work properly. I was also wondering if the rear axle would have to be replaced. Please help with these questions and please give any other information you can. Thanks for the help

Urethane Bumper
My car was just involved in a accident and both the front and rear bumpers were trashed. I want to replace them with urethane bumpers, the ones I'm interested in are in a catalog my friend gave me. I was wondering if there is anyone who has replaced their bumper with a urethane bumper and how you went about replacing them. I need to know if there are any special brackets or drilling I would need to know about, or can it be placed over the existing bumper. I thank you for any help you can provide.

After market parts
I bought my 240z less about a year ago and recently joined as a member here. I was planing to replace the front fenders and the bumpers. My question is, Does anyone know of any inexpensive aftermarket parts? I'm a student on a tight budget and i don't want to sell it. I would prefer a metal fenders and plastic bumpers, but fiberglass would be okay too. I was also woundering, does anyone know if you can leave the stock metal rail bumper in and place a plastic or fiberglass bumper over it? I thank you in advance for you help and input. ------------------
