Spark plug info needed
Taylor pros, just over 1 yr. old are having issues, they look great, worked fine new but strange cross fire and leaking appeared. Just tossed them and installed the Magnecor KV85 wires. AWSOME! Instant change in the idle & boots fit 100% better. Also tossed a couple sets of Iridium plugs in the emergency junk box ($$!!) Went back to the orig. NGK plugs. Datsun motors love these plugs, and you can replace them 3 times for one exotic-snake-oil plug! These are 2 items you can't go wrong with in your ignition set up Magnecor & NGK BP6.

From 2 racers to another, we cast our vote for you. We know how hard it is to keep your car so clean and nice looking. Maybe someday we'll have a second car and it will be red! Now just get her a helmet and out to the track too! Good luck! Craig & Cindy

Mrs Chino 240Z
Best friend, ICU Nurse, Wife, Mother of 3, and driver of our 71 240Z road racecar, Cindy has always been my partner in crime when it comes to playing with cars. Looking for another car project we remembered the fun we had with previous owned 72- 240Z and a 76- 280 2+2 Z cars. It wasn’t hard for her to convince me to pack the kids and drive 9hrs. to look at this 71 240Z. With some upgrades, changes, and elbow grease we were able to get this Z back onto the track in about a year. Having been a fan of racing but never actually driven on a racetrack, but it quickly became an addictive hobby. Cindy not wanting to be another aimless female driver soon matched and even beat my best lap times. We try to get to the track at least once a month. The car has lots of track goodies, suspension, roll cage, fire suppression system, fuel cell and other race requirements. It retains the stock 2.4L motor with an E31 head, Isky Stage II race cam, Z-Therapy modified SU carbs, MSD & Pertronix ignition, NISMO header, and other parts, to add some Bling Bling under the hood. I have only 1 rule to follow according to Cindy- “No wrenching on the Z while she is at work at the hospital, with out her.†She claims 51% ownership as I claim the other 51% ownership. I am lucky to have a wife that calls to pick up car parts on the way home from work, instead of bread and milk. For 19th yr. anniversary she asked for a fiberglass hood and rear hatch, NO flowers or dresses. Done deal! It is funny to see Vett and Porsche owners looks when they find out they were passed by a girl in an old Datsun 240Z on the track. Life doesn’t get much better than this. I’m a lucky man. Your Friend, Craig

Calif Z on Ebay
ya no problem, seems dirty compared to the rest of the car... Just spoke with the owner, he had a neighbor that owned the car for many years and it was originally yellow paint. He purchased it from the older gentleman and worked it into a nice driveable car. So it probably looks this way under the hood cause the original owner wasn't in the chrome or hot rodding the Z- motor wise.

Calif Z on Ebay
If I hadn't have purchase another trailer for the Z-track car I would have like to pick up something like this for my daughter to drive, got enough Z-parts in the shed to have finished this up nice, and 1/3 the price of the racecar.

Calif Z on Ebay
Hmmm, seems each of us have a different idea of wheels, and as far a engine compartment... nothing but a little elbow grease, fresh paint & dess-up parts couldn't fix in a couple week-ends (or years for some of us!). Damn for that price and little work it would probably make shame for 90% of the cars doing the picking! Funny thing is, I bet if you go back and look at have the dollar consuming, rust rotting Zs, people here are driving this could be a better deal! :stupid:

Yep, fixed that.... Wish I could have had a clean base as this to build from for my car when we started.

Calif Z on Ebay
Your kidding? Don't tell me another car was attack by the "Purist-Vultures" Missed that one, but thought this was a clean looking Z from the pics and know that he would not be pushing junk! Not a resto-for perfection, but darn nice driver. :classic:

Calif Z on Ebay
The gentleman that runs the Opentrack racing events at Willowsprings showed me some pics of his Z for sale on Ebay, and here is his note regarding the car. He has many nice cars and builds them right, doesn't mess around with the cheap stuff. Anyone interested the car he is in the L.A. area... might be able to find it on Ebay or I could put you in contact with him. Here is his recent message when I asked him about his Z. "Craig, I bought the car for a good price and built it myself. I have the car on ebay for sale right now, it's at $5,400 with no reserve and only 2 days to go. Someone is going to get a nice car for cheap. The car has the original 6. Thanks, Kailo" here's the pics...

Help me fix my SU's!!!
I think you can try again at raising the fuel level in the bowl by bending the float tab so the float is closer to the lid. This will give the bowl a high fuel level and in turn it will also raise the fuel level closer to the top of the nozzle in the bottom of the carb. Then again start the adjusting nuts at 2 1/2 turns open and start the car. Hopefully with the choke off, or closed. When you pull the choke, the cable will pull the nozzle jets down and this raises the fuel level at the tip of the nozzle allowing for alittle more fuel on cold starts in the morning, gives little more fuel to get the cold blooded animal going, until it warms. This is what Arne is saying about proves the theory of float level still off, too low.

Help me fix my SU's!!!
I agree Arne. Pir0San remember that the float in the bowl will determine the level of the fuel at the opening of the nozzel. You are almost there with the proper fuel bowl level/ float level adjustment. The float level is a rough adjustment, then you fine tune this fuel level with the adjusting nut on the nozzle. The nut will raise or lower the nozzle for the fine tuning. Only make 1/4 turn adjustments at a time. Give the throttle a couple of good raps, let it the rpms settle before pressing the lifting pins for the dampner test. You only want to lift the test pins about a 1/16th of an inch, not much. Listen to the rpm changes and make another adjusting nut change according. Adjusting nuts maybe alittle different from each other depending on the float level in each and the carb condition itself. Make small adjustments and be sure the car in warmed up. The oil in the dampner will not effect idle or mixture.

question regarding backfiring
Decelerating down through the gears shows these cars character. Ya gotta love a sports car with a little character. And the occasional "Pop" is the car asking for alittle more attention like- "Hey! Look at me." Love it!
