  1. Returned it. The part number on the webpage doesn’t match the alternator. same thing with oreilly. I’ll purchase from Rock Auto
  2. I was duped! I’ll exchange it in the morning.
  3. This is a Duralast 14118, it should be externally regulated and relatively plug and play. unless I was duped?
  4. New alternator installed. It appears the condenser is bolted directly onto the E ground, with a circle hook directly in the positive. Does this effective bypass the line coming off the positive white/red line?
  5. Yea, same issue with your old Z. 15 years later.

Connected the battery to test electrical: 1. front left signal is burned out. 2.reverse lights do not work (unless car needs running) 3. center console light is off in both off/on position but is on while toggling between the two. 4. antenna motor not working (father said it’s not connected) 5. parking brake light stays on. I’ll be installing a new alternator that connects straying to the 280Z wiring harness. fuel pump did not turn on, I’ll need to wire a relay to support it.
  7. Good points. I looked up some alternators. I’ll just take this core and exchange. Probably spend the same amount trying to figure how to Jerry Rig this one
  8. Ok, I’ve started wiring the alternator in my 1977 280Z. I’ve noticed a huge issue: the wiring harness has two wires and T-Connector, while the alternator has four pins. Im not sure as to the type of Alternator, but would a new compatible voltage regulator be needed to make this work? thanks in advance!

  11. I’m late to the game. How did you plum the carbon canister to the SU carbs? my current situation.
  12. Busy day. Able to drop oil and additives into the engine today. Installed the starter/carbon canister. now to finalize the hosing and wiring later down the road to fire up for the first time.
  13. I worked a lot on the car today. Installed the fuel rail. The carbon canister hasn’t been reinstalled yet, but I’ve heard different opinions on it. what’s the opinion of how these fuel hoses are set up? I’m no mechanic, but want to make sure I didn’t screw this up. thanks in advance!
  14. Why does it need to be cold tomorow? parts came in. Looking at the wiring harness (1977 280Z), it doesn’t match up to the engine (prepped for 1973 240Z wiring harness) I’ll need an ER-EF adapter for it to work, and purchase a new negative battery terminal as the original disappeared. there is a plug above the reservoir I believe may have been connected to the condenser at one time.
  15. Ordered some parts and waiting for delivery. Took the valve cover off, will douse with oil to get ready to crank up. plan on replacing spark plugs for new. I’m going to try the old ignition coil, but I think it’s best to replace it.
  16. I think I got it. Clutch hasn’t been bled yet. Probably should be able to go third/4th once it’s bled.
  17. I just installed the drive shaft. Shouldn't the car go into gear if in neutral? It shifts into 1st, 2nd, and 5th…But not 3rd, 4th, or reverse. wondering if the drive shaft isn’t fully forward.
  18. Yea, that’s what I was thinking. If it works, sweet. If not, I’ll get one that works.
  19. Radiator installed, but the OEM fan shroud doesn’t fit perfectly and leaves some gaps…. is this a big issue or would I need one that is flush?
  20. A little more background to the install. Our cherry picker wasn’t long enough to place the engine and transmission in connected, so we had to remove them separately. Aftermarket motor mounts I purchased were Fowled up (paint/plastic were inside the bolt holes) and we had to tap and die M8x1.25 to clean them out. Had to fight the alignment getting the motor mounted for a bit. mounted the transmission from under the car. All in all a day effort.
  21. Done. Engine and trans installed. Several trips to the auto store later.
  22. So how do you go about troubleshooting? Loosen the pressure plate? Mate the transmission, pull it back slightly to tighten the pressure plate back?
  23. Maybe 3/4 of an inch.
  24. It does. New pilot bearing was same size as the old oneZ
