XYZ, I am in lakewood. The factor of getting a clean Z instead of a fixer upper that I will end up spending tons of money into is also a reason I have decided to wait so I can find a clean one. Jeff

Well then the classic insurannce probably wont work because I am planing to use it as a daily driver and you know the weather in Colorado... One day it is 85 degrees and sunny and the next it is 20 degrees and snowing. One thing I did find is that my perents policy could support me and my car and that would not be very expensive (well, compared to having my own policy.) So, thats probably what I will end up doing (unless when I call it shows me otherwise) and I think I am gonna go with the Z. It is such a better looking car and I like the simplicity of it and the fact I can fix a lot of things on my own. One setback though... The Z I was looking at (1972 240Z) was sold so I am looking for another too look into. I am thinking of either buying it before the summer and start work on it or buy it after summer when I have more money to put into it (also because I am going to be gone a lot of the summer so it basically would sit the entire time and I would get little work into it) I also can try one out and decide wether I want a 240, 260, or 280. The only thing is I dont know if I can stand waiting that long. I guess I'll try and in the meantime I will earn money and get more knowledge about the car, how to fix it and what the problems are. Thanks everyone for their help though! I know some people think the 240sx is more practicle (spelling?) but I have fallen in love with the Z  !!! Once again, I cant say how great this site is! Good job 'all! Jeff

Thanks everybody. Yeah. the chick factor has been a big part of deciding... 240z' are beautiful cars and well, the 240sx is not (except in Silvia form) What is the deal with antique insurance? About how old must the car be? I guess I'll ask when I call. But 40 bucks a month sure sounds a hell of a lot better than what my friends are paying. Jeff

Just in reply to sapruns' comment (this is not a flame at all): I am a very responsible kid adn I have seen way too many accidents adn known people who have been killed or seriously injured in accidents because they decided to run way to fast and lost control of their car. I am a avid mountain biker and race and sometimes win those races and I know I dont want to mess that up. That is also one reason I am choosing to buy my own car. I could probably convince my perents to buy me a car because we are fairly well off but I know myself enough to know that if I buy something my self and work on it and put time into it I will not risk destroying it or myself. Yes, I know I am young and hormones are raging and all this and that I WILL probably do a few stupid things, but I belive that if I buy and work on it myself I will be less likely to risk it as often or do as stupid things. I plan to call a bunch of insurannce companies this weekend because I have some papers due this week  so I wont have any time. Ill post up what they say though! Once again, thanks soo much you guys for your help! Jeff

I thank all of you for your help on this one. After seeing your reply's I plan to call the insurance company soon AND test drive both cars because I know people who own both. Right now I am kinda leaning twards the Z even though a lot of you say the SX probably because I saw one yesterday on the road and it just reminded me what a beautiful car it is. All this can change though when I call the insurance company (eeekkk!!) adn see the rates on both. Oh yeah, thanks for being so friendly! These have got to be some of the best forums out there :classic: Jeff oh yeah, texasz, I am in the process of doing even more research but I just like to know what other peoples experiances/ feelings on the isssure are because I want to get all sides of the issue.

Newbie!
Well, I am yet another newbie so let me introduce myself: I am 15 right now and starting to look for a car that is not very expensive, insurance is not that bad and would be a good daily driver. Recently I was looking and found a 240z for $1500 (thats 500 below my budget). It has good milage, a great interior and its biggest problem is paint but we have a family friend who paints cars and can give me a deal on that. The other car I was looking into is a 1992 240sx becasue one of my friends owns one and it not only is fairly quick but also has very low insurance and has great handling. I was wondering if anyone else here had a Z as their first car and what the insurance on it was. Also, my uncle is way into autox and after watching/riding with him while he was racing in his WRX I really want to at least start racing so handling is high on my list of priorities. Also, I am not already pretty handy with working on cars from building up my unc's WRX with him so I plan to do upgrades and tune it mostly myself. What do you guys think I should do? Is the 240z a good first car? I absolutely lovehow they look and I hear they are wonderful to drive. Or do you think a 240sx would be better even though i dont really like how they look. Any help would be great. later Jeff P.S. - Please dont flame me or anything becasue when I asked this on I-club (subie boards) some people went after me really really bad even after I explained that I had earned this money myself w/o the help of my perents.
