That tops my caveman reference!

Lights on reminder
My 810 has a panel on the left side of the dash that shows 'HEAD', 'TAIL', and 'STOP' whenever any of those lights are on. You don't really notice them in the daytime so they're not really much of a reminder except at night.

The engine bay of dat180's car probably doesn't look quite like that one since the one you pictured is LHD.

Here's an answer from Steve, who is also a member here, to a similar question posed on another site:

If I recall correctly, the pickup tube doesn't mount in the same location, front vs. rear sump, so some machine shop work would be required. But, as Lachlan said, you may have gotten some front sump L28 powered vehicles over threre. We didn't get any here.

If the WP230 is set up anything like the 200L or the USA 810/910 it probably has a front sump oil pan. L28s have a rear sump so you would need to relocate the pickup tube and use the oil pan from the from the WP230. Not sure about the diff since we didn't get the WP230/240C over here.

Nissan Decompensating
It's just another rendition of the Altima. Front wheel drive. I'm sure it's just to have something to compete with the Civic/Accord coupes etc. They showed us one a couple of months ago at the Z show sponsored by Temecula Nissan or whatever the name of the dealership is there. I wasn't impressed.

Seen on EBay!!! Landau roof baby YEAHHH!!
Never heard that one before. Could there be any truth to it or is it just another 'urban legand'?

Injection
Yes but the hole that the Maxima tube goes in is filled on the Z engine and the hole that the Z tube goes in is filled on the Maxima engine. It would take some machine work. Zcarnut who is a member on this site had that done when he put the stroker in his 810. It's not just a simple swap of tubes. Believe me, I have both cars and have compared the bottom ends on both of them.

Need tips on Buying 1977 280z Please.
Nothing shows up on your car, Bob. The earliest records I've ever seen there seem to be from 1997.

Need tips on Buying 1977 280z Please.
There's a smoke detector and a CO detector on the wall in the garage right behind where I park the Z. It has never set either of them off. Maybe because it's inside and doesn't collect moisture while it's parked. My truck will occaisionally set one or both of them off but that a whole different story. No emissions equipment there! Hey WingZrO, what's your VIN or liscense plate number? I can run the smog check history since it's a California car.

Where does that statement come from? You may have experienced cars that do that but mine doesn't and hasn't done that in the 10 years I've owned it. Here is a summary of the smog tests on my car in the 10 years period that I've owned it. L24E will not fit in a Z without modification. They have a front sump on the oil pan and the pickup tube mounted accordingly as opposed to the rear sump setup a Z has.

Hope it helps. Looking back through this thread it appears I had a brain cramp on the word 'vacuum'. I know the proper spelling but I misspelled it every time I typed it! Even in the scan:stupid:

My 78 pulls all the way to the redline so perhaps your friends car needs a little maintainence. As far as adapting the EFI from a 280 to a 240, it's been done but it takes a good bit of work to get it right. If I had a 240, I'd go L28 w/carbs.

First ride in a 240Z
Well, first off, the 78 has been very reliable. Cold A/C, always starts, always passes the biennial smog check, no major problems. Like you've heard before, the 240 was more of a 'seat-of-the-pants' type car. Both the 70 and the 72 would out handle the 78 and they were both quicker though I'm not sure the 240's I owned with 4 speeds would run the top speed that my 280 would with it's 5 speed. As far as reliability, I didn't own either 240 for as long as I've owned the 280. About a year and a half for the 70 two and a half years for the 72 and 10 years for the 78.

First ride in a 240Z
I'm not looking to find it. What kind of condition would it be in today? I actually traded that car in for a 72 less than two years later. Datsun gave me what I paid for it! I guess they knew something back then. Looking back to what I said in the other post actually those were the only two brand new cars I've ever owned not counting my wife's HHR.

vacuum diagram..
There are two vaccum connections under the throttle body. The one to the rear connects to the rear port on the thermal vaccum valve with hose 22 in the diagram. The other one on the front side that you can't see in the diagram t's into the distributor vaccum advance hose. Now that's based on looking at my 78 but I'm fairly certain it would be the same.

Dash Lights
I understsand now. We're talking about guage bulbs not dash bulbs. I have a 78 speedo in my hand right now. It must be different from a 240 speedo. This one has two wires on each socket and doesn't ground to the case. The circuit board comment was actually from my 810 which is completely different.

First ride in a 240Z
HLS30-00488. So far it's not accounted for on any of the Z registers I've looked at.

It sounds like the contacts on the circuit board are dirty.

I've posted this before. If this is the one you referred to (routing diagram and ledgend in the FSM) I don't know of any other one.
