1973 Rebuild
I'm wondering if maybe it's time to invest in a compressor. A big one. The electric grinder does the job, but I just did the math on stripping wheels and I'm wondering if home media blasting is the way to go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1973 Rebuild
Worked on stripping the floors a little tonight. Not too much because I only had about 30 minutes, but the driver's side isn't as crazy rusted as I thought it was. Still gotta get in there under the seat brace, but I'm thinking I have less metal to cut out than I thought. Still beat up and full of rivet holes, though.

He said they came off a 240z and he had some random other Datsun bits with them. If they aren't, the $30 I spent won't kill me.

Picked up some SUs cheep from a Volvo parts vendor! Anyone know how we're supposed to post photographs (I.e. Is there a particular gallery or thread)?

Not if you aren't restoring.

1973 Rebuild
Last night I marked all of the holes in my engine bay that didn't have something screwed into them when I got the car (remember it was half disassembled when it arrived). Next step is to identify which ones can be welded up and which ones will need to stay.

Looks like rain for 8 hours, as of this afternoon. I'll probably decide at the last minute. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Cool. What kind of turnout should I expect? Are we talking like three S30s or 100?

Anyone going? I'm considering it but that's a lot of driving from north east NJ. http://www.njzclub.com/#one

1973 Rebuild
I've just never seen all the Datsun colors in one sheet before. I've seen tons of conversation about Z colors. I've been scrounging around on eBay and found some collections of chips for a lot of years. Ultimately it's just feeding a bad habit of being indecisive.

I'm thinking about going with these, which supposedly solves that problem: https://zcardepot.com/exterior/mirrors/mirror-chrome-outside-oe-look-240z-260z-280z.html

Things I learned cutting this hole: I need more light. I need a grinder that can work more finely. Maybe my deemed could work. I need better metal files.

1973 Rebuild
That's the one I returned to him with the hole in it. I haven't seen one for under $400 so far. The turbo guys inflated the market pretty bad before they all switched to RB engines and I don't think it has come back down. I have found tons of engines with 79 heads on them for under $100, though, if that's what one wants.

1973 Rebuild
Okay, did the other side. Next step is cutting the car (BUM Bum buuummmmm). This makes me fidgety so I'm putting it off until tomorrow or Saturday night. Something weird I noticed: the space available to cut open for these patches isn't the same on either side. The driver's side has about 1/2 inch more space between the wheel well and the panel in the middle that covers this bulkhead. Its not an issue; just a thing I noticed. Do you guys think it's just a quirk of an old car, or is it intentionally designed in? I think I read somewhere that the drivetrain is not in the center of the car in order to balance the weight of the driver, but then there's the Japanese/British version...

Test fit after straightening the edges of the driver's side piece: Getting this straight took a surprising amount of time.

1973 Rebuild
Okay, so I was not able to work it out with the seller. The best I could get was an offer for a refund but not on the return shipping, so I guess I'll keep it and try to fix it. The first head came from Asbet Nercissian, aka Pioneer556, in CA. It's been reposted on eBay for even more than he wanted the first time, which is just nuts. The second head that I'm keeping came from Frankie Williams, aka Zperformanceracing, in NC. Looking like $200 to get it to be as described, so it will cost what the first one did in the end. Still on financial budget. But I do have some good news: I got the block paint from Mike!
