I removed some of the rags and plugs I had in place. I will also will be replacing all the seals and possibly rebuilding too. The PO of the tranny just removed it and had said it was very smooth. He is a restorer of Z's too...
  2. It's worth a shot.
  3. I agree with Mark... I soaked min in CLR overnight, metered it out and is good to go!

The new one in the gas tank just received seems to be frozen in the empty position but looks way cleaner than the one above. I will remove it soon and check it more thoroughly.

The sender was pretty bad if anyone remembers...

What media are you using? I am using 50# copper slag... It seems to be working best for the larger work. I have two other types of crushed glass in 50# and 100# I believe that I use on the cabinet for fine work. Like the headlight backings.

Well I'm no quitter for sure... I was curious about the pump too. The other one I just received with the gas tank looks slightly different so I will assume it is the Bosch.

I think that is the low fuel sensor

Now some of the media blasting process: These ones are a little cloudy from all the dust... Then the Tranny blasting!: And the floor pan removal process begins!

Just downloaded a bunch of pics off the shop camera. I can't edit my older posts, so here is a quick gallery of shots from the shop... Mostly pics of the car getting the undercoating removed here: Then the fuel pump and sender were cleaned up:

Ordered!! Charlie is an awesome guy. Makes me proud to be Canadian... Looking forward to seeing these in person. I will post pics as I go of course. If you look back in this thread you will see the sorry state of the existing rails.

Can't believe I didn't see this before! Zedd Findings makes replacement front frame rails!

Took a step back and cleaned the shop last night. Way too much media blasting dust escaping the tent. Oh well. After that was cleaned up I had a look at the driver side floor pan from Zedd Findings. Close shape and size but I will still need to massage the metal a fair bit to get a good fit. Cut away the driver side frame rail and separated the rocker seam to get a better idea of what's needed. I don't want to rush this part! There are a lot of good posts on floor replacement I will need to re-read....

Good work is never cheap.... excellent work is priceless. Be clear of what you are asking a body shop to do. A daily driver in good shape will cost good money. A concourse restoration show car will be very expensive, not something the average Joe will want to take on without deep pockets. My own "resto-mod" will be in the neighbourhood of $45,000 when I'm done and that's with me doing ALL the labour possible. Repairs, welding, autobody and paint... Engine rebuilding MAY be the only outsource I do. When I'm done, the car will hopefully be worth around +$30,000 market value... A friend of mine paid well over $50,000, mostly for body work and paint. And that is a resto-mod too. Not an original restore.

Picked up a spare set of rear stubs. I think I'll drill these out for 5 bolt pattern.
  21. Triple that estimate for a more realistic cost....
  22. Dave has essentially retired this project. The engineer that designed the circuit is no longer involved and the startup costs are significant for someone to purchase the rights and supplies to fabricate this system. I know, I tried to make it work too....
  23. Cool! Thanks for the info Chas! My 9/75 production 280 has the fuel switch.

Six hours in the shop yesterday.... Got some more media blasting done and then took a break to blow off a lot of the dust and have a look at the progress. Looks good, some small stuff still to do but getting there. I will have to wire wheel some spots where there's is some rubber residue etc. decided to tackle removing the seat mounts. Wasn't looking forward to this as the floors had been rewelded by the PO and it wasn't going to be pretty. I was right. I ended up destroying a lot of the good sheet metal on the driver side trans tunnel removing the seat mounts. The passenger side fought less and came out a little easier. The spot weld cutters were a joke, both of them burnt out or broke on one side. Ended up using a small and large drill bit to do the rest. By the time I was done, I had a drill, grinder, air wheel cutter, sawzall, air chisel and hammer laying on the floor beside me. Let's just say I didn't feel like taking pictures of my work yesterday.... But they're out! And the metal can be replaced so it is still progress!!
