Comp. Oil pump comparison...
as I read Honsowetz' book, the competition pump has stock volume, higher pressure the turbo (S8000) pump 15% more volume on both, the external adjuster allows you to choose what pressure.

Are all the guys with Mikuni triples just posers??
(and I noticed you even corrected my spelling of 'poseur' too! but my version might suit the locals better!) Thanks for the excellent post, lotsa good stuff there - and I've since found in Frank Honsowitz book "How to Modify your Nissan/Datsun OHC Engine" the Nismo kit (16010-E4620) defaults which are very similar to your post; Main Jet 175 Air Jet 250 Pilot Jet 55 Venturi 37 Jet Block -?? (unspecified) Now the carbs I've got are NOT plucked at random from a series of wrecks in a Tokyo car yard :-) but DO differ from the above, and are the factory Mikuni America defaults as per the service manual (It was a kit purportedly for the L24/26/28 and I think it was a Mikuni factory kit - like I say, I've found another Z set with exactly the same jets) Main 150 Air Jet 200 Pilot Jet 57.5 Venturi 34 Jet Block OA pump jet 40 and your comment re jet block was very interesting, because I have had exactly the same experience with the corresponding Dellorto part, the emulsion tube, where the best solution was NOT the standard one. Now if anyone can help me with the contact details of the supplier of these stegosaurus teeth - I mean Mikuni parts - I 'd be much obliged! ps this if hard stuff to find, might do a c&p to the "tech articles" section! and btw Alan, you win the beer - see ya down here???

Are all the guys with Mikuni triples just posers??
but the only two sets (including mine) have nothing but the factory default jets for Mikunis! I'd like to think that I could get a better starting point that that. I'm sure we'd see at least some pattern emerge if similar work had been done on the engines .. .. and then the dyno ... VROOOM!!! (scary watching them climb the rollers, tho!) sooo guys ... anyone for a beer?

Are all the guys with Mikuni triples just posers??
I'll have to bribe you all, so here goes ... i will donate a six-pack of your favourite bevvie (winner to collect!) to ANYONE with 44PHH Mikunis who has a clue what jet setup he's running! (oh and what cam specs and compression and stuff would be nice too!) cheers!!!!

How bad can these wheels be?
erm I think he means the TYRES show signs of being on a car with quite a bit of camber i.e. the wheel leans a bit when freestanding :-)

exhaust ? duel vs. single 21/2 "
I quite like the look of twin pipes, and they are used on quite a few sixes (Triumph, BMW) Ed , I dont think you'd need to worry about loss of torque, because you'd use smaller pipes (around 1.75" sound right?) which would actually have less cross-sectional area than one large one (and less noise?) - if anything, it would be an all-out racer where this setup might not work. My experience with Triumphs supports Beandips theories, with balance pipes to chop back the resonance. I have a single 2.5 " pipe and I'm finding it a bit raucous even with two mufflers, so I figure it won't be any worse! wish it could sound liek my Skyline turbo, which has a wonderful throaty burble at idle which goes quiet as I come off idle - wonderful!!! but Like Ed, I'm open to other opinions on this!

Injection system
dont look like TWM or Jenvey - and is that a second (blanked out) injection port on each one?

Injection system
I'm interested in aftermarket throttle bodies; can anyone help me identify this setup? (hope this c&P works! ) http://www.classicZcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=7940&size=big&password=&sort=1&thecat=

Bugger!
bad luck Ivan! reminds me of the umpteeenth time I set the cam timing up - only this time I forgot to take that hardwood timing chain wedge out!! went to start it, just went "CLACK" and the front of the rocker cover erupted! chain didnt break, just pushed its way thru the cover! and 3 bent valves!!! so I pushed it back in the shed and went and had a bourbon or two!

Travel to Australia
cos the news is full of the fact that the cheeky bloody aussie tourist bureau warns aussies that NZ is "in an earthquake zone" jeez mate, welcome to the pacific rim!! course some bright spark pointed out that the last fatal earthquake was in fact in Newcastle! anyway I digress - I really want to warn you about being bitten by rabid koalas! it's RIFE mate, so don't be taken in by their sleepy appearance !!!! :-}}}

bent oil bar base
this is quite common, you could lose oil feed to cam - factory used to have a pressed-steel replacement for the cast item , cos theyre almost impossible to repair.

help regarding RB20 concept!
does anyone know what CR this would give? more suited to a non-turbo perhaps?

3.545 r200 with mustash bar for sale
but the freight costs might be too high! .. unless you give it to UPS and ask them if they would deliver it to Auckland post office - they might hear it as Oakland ;-)

RB30DE engine
Nice conversion - and I agree with your logic re normally-aspirated vs turbo, cant beat high compression for a good throttle response (and I own a GTS-t!) - was the wiring much of a major?

webber butterfly bypass?
the idle screws are on the head side of the throttle plates, right up close to the mounting flanges of the weber. having thought about it, I think that the progression holes would not affect it, as theyre only open at part-throttle. but check that the starter circuits (the little levers on the back of the carb) arent part open too, they could let a bit of air thru via their holes upstream of the throttle. hope that helps.

webber butterfly bypass?
I suspect that without any fuel in , your idle circuits could well be bleeding quite a bit of air in. the only needles the webers have are the idle screws, so you could try putting them back and screwing them right down. you may have to solder the progression holes closed too, but that is getting a bit to close to the point where you might want to sell the webers and buy plain weber-style bodies. what is the injection system btw? I'm interested in going down the throttle-body road myself! good luck!

L6 Engine Calculator
this is a great little tool - I'm looking at doing a rebuild, and was impressed to find so much data pulled together in on spot - agree with a previous comment that another couple of parameters for head and block cuts would make it PERFECT!

need info. installing fuel inj. in 240z
this is all good info ! I'm looking at putting the injection system from a 280Z into ... a 280Z! its a radical concept, but I think it could work! (actually a retro-conversion from carbs - I'm a bit luckier than the others, the fuel return lines, etc, are all there)

Newzealand
Hi Cameron and others, yes there are a few kiwis on this site, and we also have our own club site - www.zclub.org.nz - theres a membership form there! and yes the Zeds are getting harder to buy, most of the NZ Zclub have owned their cars for well over 10 years - I always regretted selling my first car, and now have another! my advice - wait for a good one, and pay the price. - or regret it over the years, at your leisure! cheers and re the sheep jokes, thats an ozzie obsession, they even want to change their national song to one about a sheep - Matilda, I think her name was. :-)

anyone used an aftermarket fuel injection system?
I am thinking of ditching the Mikunis on my car and going to an EFI system for easier tuning. (I still have the original EFI fannymould) does anyone have any recommendations re controlling system or other EFI mounts e.g. weber-type throttle bodies?

Dellorto Vs Weber
but Webers are as Italian as spaghetti! also, did Holley ever make a side-draught? not with a weber bolt pattern, anyway!
