That's what I am getting at. The idea is to get the air from as far foreward as possible. Right?

Has anyone fabricated any sort of cold air induction system for an early Z? I was thinking about this the other day and wondering whether that might be a source of some easy power... how much I don't know, but it couldn't hurt, right? If you could just have a K&N cone filter mounted on some tubing that mounted to the carbs with the tubing out in front of the car.... it's done all the time on newer cars, right? anyone done this? Thought about it?

I live in Glendora - about 30 miles east of LA. As far as not needing the heater, I was being somewhat sarcastic, but in reality there are only a hand full of times that I would use the heater every year and I don't plan on using my Z as a daily driver - especially being that I work out of my home. You live in Pleasanton Bambi? It gets a lot colder up there. Lots of fog right? You are near Thunderhill, no? Ever taken your Z there? Thanks for the replys! Matt

I took out the heater components recently. In doing so I had to cut some hoses that had coolant in them. It looks like one carries the water in and one carries it out. If I just connect these two lines together (making a loop) will that take care of it or should I do something else? Thanks! Matt

That's what I was afraid of. Does the dist. have to be removed to do it. When I was trying to figure this out I was looking at that and I don't think I can get to it without removing the dist. That little cylinder shaped piece is the compressor? So I just take everything in the back there off, put the wires through and the little rubber grommet should fit? Thanks for all the help guys

I am trying to install a petronix unit in my Z, but am having a bit of trouble. I think I have most of it installed properly, but I can't figure out where the wiring passes trough the dist. cap. The instructions say that there is no modification of the dist. neccessary... Can you tell me what I'm missing? thanks Matt

I bought the 12 circuit race-street painless kit. I am going to be eliminating all the circuits/accessories that I don't really want. I have since ripped every wire out of the car - along with the entire dash. The dash had a big ugly crack, so I just decided to rip it out and have fun with a stripped interior. I have also torn out all of the heater A/C stuff. My idea is to make a street car that is fun to drive around town, but will also be a blast on a local track day. I will have a stereo, but other than that, there will be nothing else, but the bare minimum I must have to make the car legal. I am no electrical whizzz, but I hope to be able to do this myself. Be careful when removing your current wiring. When I was detatching the wiring from my alternator I broke one of the screws off in the alternator - didn't even take much pressure at all... Keep posting your progress on this thread - let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the quik reply - any suggestions on where to get an alternator like this? Have you made a swap like this? Thanks! Matt

I am rewiring with the Painless Wiring 12 circuit 'pro-street' wiring kit (www.painlesswiring.com). In the painless kit, the way I am reading it, there isn't any voltage regulator. Is this correct? I am pretty shaky on electrical, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I am starting the process of rewiring my Z with THIS KIT. While removing the wiring from the alternator, the bolt labeled 'E' broke. Apparently it is frozen and corroded. It didn't take a whole lot of force before it just broke right off. Can anyone give me my options. I'm not even sure which wires go where as of yet, so please be specific. Thanks!

please excuse my ignorance - I don't really know how thick 3/8" is.... well, I know how thick that is, but I don't know what application that would be sufficient for. Can you give me any clues as to what 3/8 would and more importantly would not be sufficient for. Thanks for all the info!

I am looking into getting a MIG welder. I want to be able to work on my Z with it, but also fabricate other things like go karts, stands, trailers, etc... I am looking at a MILLERMATIC 175. Does anyone have any experience with this unit? I've heard it is a good quality product. Another question I have it about the voltage. I am going to need to get a 220V outlet in my garage. Anyone know if this is something I could do - or should I hire an electrician (how much should it cost?)? oh yeah... I have never welded before:stupid: - I have a friend who is working for a welding certificate who can help, but otherwise I am just going to teach myself and read books... and practice! Thanks Matt

My Z came with no way to secure the battery at all. I don't even know how the battery was secured in the stock configuration, so can anyone give me a tip on the best way to secure the battery? Thanks

I posted about my brake problem a while backhttp://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7740 . It was suggested that I should replace the vacum tubing. I did that and it still has the same problem. I am thinking I should just vacum test it - I will have a chance to do that later this evening. If the check valve is bad, is there any shop that might carry it or do I need to go for Victoria British or MSA? THanks!

Is it ok that it isn't hooked up? What does it do? Thanks

Can anyone tell me what this is. Noticed that it isn't connected to anything, but when I have the engine running it sucks air. Thanks Matt
