Test report of "HLS30Q (Z Europe model) countermeasures High speed stability "
This photo was taken at the Test Drive US & CANADA, I love this silver. And 240ZG from a magazine. The reason of 15mm lowered in front is, the development team of Europe S30 had found that S30 had a habit of lifting in front when cruising. It was about 10mm. Mr.Takei and Mr.Miyazaki and other engineers all admit that G-nose gives a huge benfit when cruising at high speed, stability is much much improved . Before going on sale G-nose in Japan, many Nissan test crew members got speeding ticket in Tohmei express high way, they did 200km/h crusing. They did not care about ticket ,even they all reported the benifit of G-nose effect not only to the test grope but also to the executives , finally some executives tested by themselves, then G-nose began to sell. 49ème salon de l'automobile (Bruxelles, 01.1970) First Z in Europe?
Hi Blue, nice pictures! I bought the Australian HS30 with Kimono dressed girl on ebay, but I am not happy the quality of print. Yours are very high resolution, nice. Do not you think the HS30 sits high in front? The chrome mirror, it is unique but I like door mirror much more. The Brussels car. Looks like its rear is quite high , as if the car was jacked up then lowerd to the floor. Both cars should have normal suspention compornents. The safari gold Car Magazine Nov 1970 car, might have Current Europe version suspention(same spring rate and F/R stabilizer as Z432), but not lowered front. For us, we know Mr.Goertz had nothing to do with S30 styling. He showed how to make a clay model in general. Nissan designers knew a lot of fantastic sports cars out there , they wanted to make a cool sports car for their own. And they had never seen A550X(Mr.Goertz's study) at that time. Only very a few people saw that but it had never been looked atrractive. April 16th 2015, Mr.Tamura passed away. I still can not post everything from his letter, it is too heavy to do that, but when the time comes, I will do one by one. Kats

Gavin, Blue, and Alan, yes the C shape rubber cap is a safty feature for preventing dragging nice dress , however you can catch beautiful women as long as driving S30 even if you have C caps at both ends I am looking for where the description is, made by Mr. Matsuo ? or Mr. Uemura ? or someone involved S30 development. From the pictures Nissan did not think the cap was only for Japan at the begining, but after starting regular export Nissan decided took them off, why ? Like a sprash pan, I do not get it the difference between Japan and other country. Mike, that stuff is first time for me, I have never seen it before, it is so cool, please let us know what you think interesting. And I thought the word "salesman" would be Japanese-English , but it is not! heyitsrama, Alan explained precisely , I have heard from the 432R owner, the under cover is good for racing but not good for city drving, stop and go traffic causes over heating in a hot summer . Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Thank you every one! A lot of imputs make this thread alive! Gav240z, your 240Z has an unique holder, same as the picture and Z432 too. I think this holder was shared with SP/SR roadstar, was not it? In this picture, we see the wheel was for a SP/SR roadster because it has cap teeth ! For Z432 , if owner chose 5 magnesium wheels , the spare tire holder was chosen this (like a tap of fire pump) , shape of the center hub can not accept a dish holder which is used for a steel wheel. Some owner chose a steel wheel for the spare tire, to reduce price. My elder sister PS30-00087 has the tap holder, but slightly different from mine. The yellow Z432 is PS30-00013,my Z432 has same tap as 00013 (I added a rubber sheet I do not want to scrach center hub) . And my blue 1970 240Z. Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
One more tonight's upload, here is an interesting booklet," Nissan Fairlady-Z text book for sales man " issued Nov 1969. It contains many pictures which were not seen in other manuals. Interesting thing is " ...if a potential customer has a son, you must approach to his son , from our data many customers are admitting their son's opinion..." And funny cartoon ,also nice to see, I like it. Some pictures are very useful to confirm early parts, or prototype uniqueness. You see unusual carpet fasteners, rear deck jack handle mount, spare tire holders, tool box lid looked very simple and even the carpet around there it has fasteners. A emergency brake handle, looks like borrowed from other cars. Three combination gauges looked a little dull ,not straight. A rear gate supporting bracket attached to the rear gate, it has same shape as my Z432, but different from my other cars. An artificial interior picture, Mr.Matsuo told us Nissan had just bought a computer to print pictures which can make it in artificial effect. It took many ours, set before going home and done in the next morning . Kats PS. Do you know why only Japanese S30 has a rubber "C shape " cap at both side of rear side bumper ?

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
I found this car still has original exhaust and muffler all the way to the exit. It is very hard to see , but I can see "72 05 (or 06) " on the center pre muffler and the rear end muffler. Pretty straight floor makes me happy. Also some numbers on the rear differential , "72 5 " looks like May 1972, what do you think of it ? Kats

Periodical maintenance 240ZG, My car is now Kyoto Nissan for Shaken (should have checked every two years ) I replaced a clutch operating cylinder last month, it is also checked by mechanics. This time I want to add a rear stabilizer, the reason why I want to do is , I was looking at original owner's note which was written when he bought the car new , he wrote " too much under steers, too much body roll, are there brackets for a rear stabilizer? I need to talk about Z432 or race option stabilizer , price will be 7000-8000 yen" I do not have any problem with this car but I want to make it instead of the original owner. Kats

I think this picture posted by Alan, thanks in advance. This car has a rear spoiler only, and before March 1971, this might be Portugal version. It is a little bit complicated,Portugal version was originally called "Current Europe Version" . The report explanes in page 3, "...June 1970 Current Europe Version was established .." . This Current Europe Version has same suspension as Z432 and has only a rear spoiler. This version was sent to DATSUN Netherland in August 1970, then they reported back in November 1970 , the team must be so shocked by the report, you can see it at the bottom "The side wind stability is very Bad " This is caused by the following point..." Mr.Takei said in a magazine " I remember it was in 1970, someone sent two 240Zs to Europe. I had thought we should not do it, it was not ready yet" " We had got the report, criticized severely. They said the car was not a sports car. Then we asked what they wanted, they told us like this, " In cold weather, with cross wind 20kts, a car can do max 200km/h and cruise 180km/h, that is minimum requirement" . " As an engineer, I wanted to try it, I was full of energy. We were told that we had to make it by the spring of 1971..." So, before June 1970, all the export 240Z has same spec. After that, Current Europe Version established. Then March 1971, Final Europe Version established. Current Europe Version was not pretty for DATSUN Netherland ,however Nissan decided Current Europe Version must remain in a line up as a Portugal Version. Kats

Thanks Jason240z ! My English contains mistakes always, so anyone can correct me for our documentation. Here are some pictures, the first one is USA 240Z, the second one is U.K. 240Z, I think U.K. 240Z looked lower in front,so this car must be the Final Europe version. The 3rd and 4th are LHD Europe 240Z, this might be also a Final Europe version as is has spoilers both front and rear. And this car is earlier than the green U.K. car judged by hubcaps. According to the report, the test completed in March 1971. This red car could be a very early Final Europe version. The 5th and 6th are Australian 240Z, cleanest exterior I love it so much. Kats

Test report of "HLS30Q (Z Europe model) countermeasures High speed stability "
Page1 Title :HLS30Q (Z Europe model) countermeasures High speed stability test Objective: countermeasure S30 crosswind stability and set spec of Europe export model Date : from February 1970 to 27th March 1971 1 Outline Soon after S30 went on sale, poor cross wind stability was heard. To export S30 to Europe market , we knew it was a very important key to develop and raise its stability at high speed and in cross wind situation to the level of satisfied. K42( car / chassis test ) had started basic study and development about crosswind stability using domestic S30 well before this program began . From May 1970, that activity succeeded to this program, and continued testing, developing Europe model. Finally, the difference from North American model (HLS30U) is, a) style element Front spoiler and rear spoiler added b ) suspension element strengthening sping rate and stabilizer front and rear front and rear shock absorber's damping force up applied 5J -14 rim and 175-HR14, applied C30 rack mounting insulator (Replaced from SUGURI type) Kats

Alan's explanation is perfect, that is what I wanted to say. About section code, we see various K codes on the left column of the HLS30Q report, with cross refference , they areK10 and K20 chassis desigen, layout/ K30 Engine, power train /K60 prototype making / 360 auxiliary unit engineering (Alan can give the best interprit about this) e.t.c. Let's find out section codes which give us more interesting imagination. Kats

wiring path of fasten seat belt light on 1972 240z
Hi, I installed the warning system for my 12/1971 (HLS30-60213) car which originally was not intended to come with it. Shortly after my car, the system launched (according to the service bulletin, HLS30-62001 is the first car ) However as I show below, my car is unique betweenness. I found the big dents at the floor both behind seats, it made me think that I want to have the system, so I collected retractable belts, lights, harnesses, connectors, etc. I strictly set the goal to be able to return the car as it was, so some wiring is different from original warning system.I did not modify any original harnesses nor original connectors, I use original system and I made a system just plug it in . My experience will not perfectly work for you but, I hope something will assist your refreshing work. Kats

Alan, you pointed out Takahashi - Tori Shimari Yaku (director) on the top left of the test report, I found him ! In the colored figure, the very left is Mr.Hara (director) who was also very important the birth of S30, Mr.K and Mr.Matsuo and other designers and engineers are all saying very good memories about him.Mr.Hara was a car guy, I guess. Next him is Mr.Takahashi , we have no idea about him. The third picture is Mr.Hara.

Before that, I found new today, about a department code(ID) , we talked about it before in another thread, very first S30 prototype making sequence . Each car has each department to belong, we did not know what "K11" means. Now I see K11 is Dai Ichi Soukatsu Ka (general affairs section No.1) in Dai Ichi Sharyo Sekkei Ka (Chassis layout/ mechanical design department No.1 ) I have Nissan footage books( Alan you have them too) ,this 1964-1973 has a lot of interesting information. Please see the attached pictures. Kats

S20 needs a little more work / effort to enjoy , maintain than L series engine, but yes there is nothing fundamentally wrong with S20. That is why I can not be apart, I am correcting engine parts and even I am going to obtain an used S20. If you hear the S20's roar, feel the heart beat, you will love it. Kats

Thank you everyone, my like button run out today, sorry I could not hit all of them, tomorrow I will ! Like Alan said, Datsun Netherland advised a lot , and Mr.Takei is the important engineer about this. He talked about this in some magazines, we can read it with cross reference techniques.I will refer the articles later. Kats
