  1. Thanks Alan - I forgot the word 'colour (and yes, that's how it's spelt guys in English....and they say couleur ici) - I've only ever seen B and Ws ! Is that a streamlining fin down the rear wing or a form of car identification ? Rear drums - cool.
  2. That's my whole raison d'être to produce some factually correct mini-articles - nothing too long and taxing for most peoples' and especially journalists' minute attention span these days. 18th January 1970......2020 - 50 yrs of racing - gotta be worth a drink to celebrate and a mention in our newsletter.
  3. Please, can anyone supply a photo or three of the January 1970 racing Fairlady Z (before it got hit that is) ? And wasn't it the 18th January and not the 17th at Suzuka ? http://www.mmjp.or.jp/60srace/FordGT40inJapan1.html
  4. Ooh, not much margin for error in Alans' book. None of the 'well, at least we tried' or 'we gave it our best' ! It's correct or it isn't and it's a minefield out there with misinterpretations, mistranslations, information not wished to be divulged....if it weren't for a few talented westerners, we'd all be in the stone age and even books like Brian Longs' is ridden with errors ! At least we all quote 'S30' now - you got us that far Alan :-)
  5. Naughtius Maximus.....no, ok let's not go down there.?
  6. It is interesting but may only be they didn't have one immediately available - in any case, I would bet that for most of the viewing public, it didn't matter - the shape counted for the oohs and ahhs ! Nope, told you : no hair-splitting et moi....obsédé ? This side of the water in real-time Europe, I'm writing a few mini-articles to publish on our national site to which owners, buyers and above all journalists my consult and that which we can pull off and fill up our newsletter (send to the press...and members - those whom aren't active on the forum). These are simple, short 'stories' and I merely want to get certain basic facts right. With these articles, I'm trying to correct the journalists and therefore publics' perception of Prince, Datsun, Nissan, Katayama, The Fairlady Z, the L4-L6 myth and when it's in French, there is a better chance of the Francophones finally getting it right rather than copy and paste any Anglo-Saxon Google result. I'd share it with the UK club but I can't see them giving much of a damn - like a punt without a pole - floating aimlessly - Jon however does a great job all on his own. You said it best once - all happy-slappy - don't upset the apple cart so ignorance is bliss and I'm no guru - I just have the willpower to try. I really appreciate exchanges like this between several participants as the same event, fact even when viwed by different eyes invariably turns up another interesting detail or two. Eg that blue export 240Z on the 1970 Tokyo stand has North American market turn signal repeaters on the rear wings/fenders but Euro/JDM spec rear light lenses. How many 240Z rear light lens types were there...3x ? Rhetorical question - let's stay on-topic : when did that competition department get hold of L24s and were they already boring them for bigger ccs ?
  7. Oops - thanks for the lap length (s) corrections. Not for me - te 3.5 months is pretty darn good - you'd think that they'd planned to make a competition car.......with all those fittings inside we mortals don't use like roll-cage fittings amongst others Alan once showed me.... I don't have hair to split anymore...for me, testing is testing (a journalists' day out doesn't count) and racing is racing ie against other cars whether in the same class or not. So really, nothing before Jan 1970 ?
  8. I was taking Fuji circuit to be almost a mile long so maybe 100-110 laps then for 100miles - I guess that sorts out the boys from the men - reliability wins uber alles (and I'm not belittling the pace) - they always seem to sprint their races from what one can see up on YT. Pint taken re sanctioned races but I'm not into splitting hairs etc - I'm more interested in getting some correct dates (months and years'll suffice) and you've already quoted the MCRally mule in 1970 which, for me, is nothing short of genius on the part of Nissan - I worship such anticipation and pre-planning : can anyone imagine the organisation internal they had to do that around the other side of the world - stunning. So, you can safely say that there were no official (and I don't just mean works) Zs racing in 1969 however they were motorised ? Those R382s are just SO sexy. The Toyota 7 is pretty cool too but too 'square and later with an aerofoil, it loses some of the flwoing beauthy the Nissan exudes. Even the music is '70s cool in this video.
  9. C'mon, what are you hinting at here ? ? Did a or more Zs race (not track-test) in 1969 - hard to believe seeing as the car 'came out' in late October already. Thanks and in advance for the entry list - are those a pair of R382s in front ? Fabulous cars....: https://fr.wheelsage.org/nissan/r380-series/18374/pictures/oznci5/ Ok - I understand...it's like Dune "plans within plans" ? The races were always so endurance based ? One might have expected cards of fewer laps as 100x must have been something like 3-4hrs already. No sprints ? Born too late.....! :-)
  10. But nothing back to back - just a 'road' test : MotorFan Road TEST Here : https://www.nissan-global.com/EN/HERITAGE/short_story/en_p36-01.html it lists a Skyline GT-R winning (in class ?) although over 100 miles and not 150 ! June 7, 1970All Japan Fuji 300 miles Race100 mile BIIIFuji 6km11M. Hasemi25/251st (2'10"26) Thanks Alan, can you share with us the entry grid and overall results please ?
  11. Alan - were there no Zs of any form raced in Japan before 1970 ? https://www.racingsportscars.com/races/search.html?coun=J&year=1969 https://www.racingsportscars.com/races/search.html?coun=J&year=1970 Might the two cars in the photo : red no.8 and blue no.19 be invitational entries at...Fuji - testing ? They're certainly up against and apparently well-placed on the grid against some very serious competition.
  12. Exhaust drone, anyone can google it to know the cause but it IS sound freqencies not only from the exhaust but combining with tire noise vibrating up through the chassis too. This is why it's only heard/felt at highway speeds. The simple addition of a resonator eliminates this by allowing the gas to expand therefore altering the freqencies. But a resonator does much more. Not only does it curb the dBs leaving the rear (still plenty loud if wished !) but it encourages exhaust chamber scavenging (again, please Google it) to help release more torque and power. Alis' swap to my Race-Sport header obviously helped enormously combined with the 2x secondary pipes becomming 1x as far back as possible (the rear of the gearbox in fact) so as to prevent any suck-back of exhaust gases up the pipes again towards the head. Each cylinder sends gas pulses down the primary pipes and behind these pulses are vacuums that help suck out the next detonation point gases and so on and so on. These pulses are to be encouraged and therefore the exhaust gases to be stablised - whilst not losing any gas velocity.....so not too big a diameter pipe, not too small with room to expand just after the 6 become 2x3 which become 2 and finally join to 1x. What surprises me is that MSA and before them d*** Barbour (perhaps others) have been selling these straight-tru pipes for decades telling people that they're performacne exhausts when in fact they're just the cheapest mock-ups they can find to sell on ! The 6-1 header is particulary awful at producing exhaust drone and killing any power gains an attenttive owner might have invested in his engine......so long as it's noisy - the client will feel fast and be happy. Just like sticking on a cherry-bomb muffler to a 50cc m-bike and feeling like Evel Knievel.... hot damn - is that his Z ? https://www.banpei.net/2009/04/07/popular-bosozoku-cars-nissan-fairlady-s30

  21. Made up for a persistant friend (I don't normally take on custom jobs) with a 3" exhaust line, I wonder if there is any other interest out there ? The interior of the expansion box remains 2.5" with twin 2" exit pipes. To make the part cost-effective, I'd need a minimum of 20x orders. Also now available is my 'Hako' silencer (US$200 / CAD$270).
  22. Hiya and thanks. Dave R reccomedns my headers, the version depending upon the engine spec and drivers' needs. Kind regards, Sean
